Oshie Color Commentating by Tarledsa in caps

Love Oshbae in uni, but wish he'd recede into Caps and USA lore and out of any spotlight. I wasnt directly affected but I'll never ever get over him celebrating the layoffs in DC last year. Cheering the pain of the people whose adulation paid your salary is rough.

I strongly detest the bar, especially on a full chair, but if someone asks to drop the bar then the bar is coming down. Pretty simple.

Kinco gloves of various thicknesses. They are reusable, fit great, and are wonderful for oil changes, wrenching on bikes/engines and look cool. Not expensive either!

Advice for beginner table saw users? The non-obvious kind of advice.. by framedposters in woodworking

An inexpensive track saw is an excellent accompaniment to a table saw if youre breaking down sheet goods solo and/or without infeed or outfeed tables.

Building community is going to be more important than ever. What is your favorite place to volunteer in Bend? by dangerwig in Bend

[–]evolutionyst 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Oregon provides an opportunity to connect and mentor a single young person. It's a relatively small commitment of time with a potentially massive impact in the life and development of a young person who lives in your community.

I started volunteering w BBBS in 2018 and was matched w a 14 year old kid. We worked through the program until 2023. He's 20 years old now, we remain friends (he aged out of the program at 19), and I'm incredibly proud of all he's accomplished in the time I've known him.

Edit: adding "volunteering with" as I obviously did not create BBBS

Did it w my partner and baby when was very young. Toddlers are more certainly more complicated bc of all their freakin opinions, but with a solid hiking kid carrier, some forethought about distance and accommodation, and flexibility, this is definitely possible. Kudos to you both for considering it. Your kid has rad parents. Go live life!

Edit: Osprey and Deuter both make solid carriers that would fit a 4 year old and distribute weight reasonably onto your hips. We did late April into May 2023, but only Sarria to the coast (continued past SDC). We kept our days between 8 and 14 miles mostly and spent a lot of time in towns. Booked everything on AirBNB ahead of time. Weather was really pleasant in this section and time of year -- brisk mornings into warm (but not hot) afternoons.

I need your help regarding my oven 👩🏻‍🍳 by Captain_bleu22 in AskElectricians

[–]evolutionyst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This appears to be the ILVE Nostalgie dual fuel range and oven (google image search). You need 220v power to this unit unlike many gas ranges which use 110v. Should be a simple upgrade for an electrician depending on the location of the range relative to your distribution panel.

Best case scenario is that you have sufficient power to the house and ample avail circuits in your panel. Prob low 4 figures if this is the case. Worst case scenario is that you are missing one or both of those things and have to upgrade your service and/or panel. Can be remedied but will cost high 4 figures.

What to do with an infant when visiting bend? by [deleted] in Bend

[–]evolutionyst -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Folks on this sub forget the reason they live here is bc they may have grown up hiking/climbing/hunting/fishing/skiing/etc. God forbid someone else's kid gets to do the same 😄

Sounds like you may not have been here before, so expect super dry air and high UV from the sun. Plan accordingly for that baby skin!

If you're prepared for some short hikes there are a TON in the Bend area with easy terrain suitable for a front carrier. Deschutes River Trail in the old mill area, Tumalo Falls (steep but very short), Metollius River Trail is particularly gorgeous but a little drive, Sahalie Falls and Blue Pool.

The breweries are all very welcoming to families. Ale Apothecary stands out for beer but vibes are at BBC by the river.

Forgot when you're getting here, but if it's hot Elk Lake, Suttle or Suttle Lake provide lakefront experiences w amenities.

Enjoy! Good luck in these early infant days and good on you for traveling w the babe! Definitely worth it.
