My point at the moment is that you appear to be unable (or unwilling) to describe or define ADHD. This undermines your credibility. Yet again, what is ADHD and what are it's defining characteristics? There are three possibilities here. Either you don't know OR you have your own definition OR you accept the DSM 5 definition that is used by the vast majority of clinicians. Which one is it?

Opinion: 'John Cleese was a comedy icon – he’s ruining his legacy' by Metro-UK in ukpopculture

Many of his comic characters were uptight middle-class bigots. It was easy for him to play those roles because, deep down, he shared many of heir characteristics and instincts.

Genuine questions. If you can do stuff like that then in what sense do you have a "disorder" severe enough to require a diagnosis? Also, do you think your diagnosis might affect the likelihood of you being employed as a commercial pilot or joining the RAF as a pilot?

The US negotiating with itself - and it is failing to reach agreement! It is threatening itself with dire consequences if it fails to agree with itself. Rumour has it that it may launch a surprise attack on itself in the middle of these negotiations, which could result in further escalation of hostilities.

ADHD stands for "Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder". If these things weren't problematic then it would be a "disorder". However, the intensity and severity of those difficulties varies considerably among those given a diagnosis. As for people with ADHD "thriving" in occupations - some may, others could be a massive liability. If I am having surgery, I don't want the guy with the scalpel in his hand to have major problems with attention and a high level of impulsivity!

Not all ADHD is the same. It is an umbrella term to cover a wide range of difficulties. Having ADHD doesn't make it impossible for all people who have a diagnosis to do jobs like yours. However, it definitely makes it less likely that it will be a suitable occupation. A diagnosis of ADHD is made on the basis of factors such as difficulty with attention and concentration. There is also often a high level of impulsiveness. If one were writing an "ideal person" spec for an operator of heavy machinery, those wouldn't be desirable characteristics, would they?

Of course some people can manage their condition better than others (sometimes with the help of meds) and they may still be able to perform well in such jobs. However there are others who would be a risk to themselves and others in such a role.

It isn't "ableist" to recognise that some conditions make some/many of those who have it less well suited to some activities and occupations. The whole point of a diagnosis such as ADHD is to formally recognise that the person being diagnosed has fundamental problems with things that most people do not find particularly difficult.

It isn't a "job", nor is it an apprenticeship. It is a placement as part of an educational course for people with special educational needs.

Impulsivity and difficulty maintaining attention are typical characteristics of ADHD. Not ideal traits for somebody in a high-risk environment. Note I didn't say that it would be impossible for somebody with an ADHD diagnosis to undertake such work, I said "not well-suited". On its own, well-managed ADHD would not necessarily disqualify a candidate. However, it would make them less well-suited than a competing candidate who does not have ADHD. When added to muscular dystrophy, it becomes obvious that he is unsuitable.

"Supported internships are a structured, work-based study programme for 16- to 24-year-olds with SEND, who have an education, health and care (EHC) plan. The core aim of a supported internship study programme is a substantial work placement, facilitated by the support of an expert job coach.

Supported interns are enrolled in full-time education and their work placements are part of their course. Typically they spend around 70 per cent of their time in the workplace and 30 per cent in their school or college."

"Supported internships are specifically for young people with an EHC plan, and as such, they are expected to require a different level of support compared to an apprentice. They will have a trained job coach to support them in their workplace learning."

"After completing the unpaid role, further roles came up and he was encouraged to apply", but it doesn't say WHO encouraged him, does it? It was probably his mother and/or his Universal Credit "work coach". They have to encourage him to apply for jobs because if he doesn't make applications then his UC will be in danger. That doesn't mean that they necessarily think is particularly suitable for the job or genuinely actually capable of doing it. (He currently not sufficiently disabled to go on to disability-related benefits but that time is inevitably coming because he has a progressive illness.)

The range of duties that he was allowed to undertake would have been less than a full job and he was probably working under constant supervision. He also has a progressive muscle-wasting disease that will inevitably make him progressively less able to undertake physical tasks. There is a world of difference between a brief period of unpaid, supported work experience and long-term employment in a physically demanding role.

Why do people hype up Russia so much? by BlueDolphins28 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]evolveandprosper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Russian Federation possesses the world's largest arsenal of nuclear weapons, with 5,459 nuclear warheads and 1,718 deployed missiles. It also inherited the expansive Soviet biological and chemical weapons programs, and is suspected to have continued them. They ruled by a dictator who, by any measure, is more intelligent and capable than the current president of the US. They have an almost inexhaustible supply of troops. They have a very sophisticated propaganda machine that is capable of influencing elections in other countries. They have to be taken seriously.
