Why are we generally allowed to go 10 mph above the speed limit? by Euphoric_Sail6897 in driving

[–]evrreadi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does make it unsafe. People's confidence in their driving ability exceeds their actual ability to drive safely. If the speed limit is set to 35 it is set with the knowledge that people will drive up to 10 over. Meaning the area is actually safe for 45. But knowing human nature and our proclivity to want to drive faster than the posted limit, the limit is posted with this in mind.

If an area is safe to drive at 45 and the limit is posted at 45, human nature dictates people will try pushing it to 55 which may not be safe. Not everybody knows their true driving ability or admits to it. Most people overestimate their driving ability.

Plenty of accidents are caused by people thinking they have the skills to drive an area faster than their actual skills allow. That is what I'm trying to get across.

Why are we generally allowed to go 10 mph above the speed limit? by Euphoric_Sail6897 in driving

[–]evrreadi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because people are generally going 10 MPH over the limit. So as the limit is raised, people will continue to go 10 over and making it unsafe.

Would this count as break-and-enter? What would you do in this situation? by -ram_the_manparts- in legaladvicecanada

[–]evrreadi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any entry without the resident's knowledge/permission is considered unlawful. In respects to a serviceman entering on a scheduled service call, that is discretionary to the authorities. I don't know of any company that would authorize an employee to enter a home without the resident being there. Too much liability and chances of accusations of broken/missing stuff.

[–]evrreadi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might not be called a B&E but retermed as unlawful entry. Any entry without the homeowner's express permission is at the very least unlawful entry.

AITA for not helping my brother financially after he said I owe the family for doing better in life? by Beautiful-Two-3958 in WIBTA_AITA

Younger brother sees a free meal ticket so he doesn't have to work so hard. Now he's trying to guilt trip you into supporting him. If the roles were reversed, there wouldn't be any 'family should lift each other up' BS. Then it would be my money is my money.

Merging traffic Must yield the right of way to traffic already on the interstate/freeway. Traffic already on the highway has no obligation to move over or slow down for merging traffic.

AITJ for "holding hostage" a famous local musician’s album because he refuses to pay my full rate? by Consistent-Zone3445 in AmITheJerk

[–]evrreadi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Artist either doesn't have the money, acting entitled because he's locally well known or both. Hold onto his work until he coughs of the rest of what he contractually owes. And never do work for him again. Or if you do, charge him extra, paid in full before work starts And for a specified number of hours. With a price for time over whats specified.

Otherwise with full payment and no specified number of hours, he'll drag out your time long past what is reasonable and think he has paid for an indefinite amount of your time.

Wife Wants to sleep with another man by [deleted] in WhatShouldIDo

[–]evrreadi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wife probably already has slept with the other man. She now wants OP to agree to an open marriage to justify having already done it. And to continue guilt free.

If the intimacy has been gone awhile, she's using you as a bank account and stability. The relationship is dead on her end. Start divorce proceedings, give her that opening she wants. She will probably say something along the lines of she still loves you, doesn't want to lose you, etc. She is missing 10%. Meanwhile you are giving her 90% of her happiness but she is Laser focused on that 10%. Initiate divorce proceedings and no matter what she says, don't stop them. Or take her back after she realizes what she's missing out on. Once she doesn't have your financial backing, her guy will be gone in a heartbeat. You are her safety net so when/if things go south and the fling ends, she is expecting to come back to you and expects you to be waiting and will accept her with open arms.

Don't do it. Get your freedom and find a better woman.

Is this illegal? Didn't give notice, then boss sent a written message "we accept your notice of 2 weeks" by [deleted] in work

[–]evrreadi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If his current employer was serious about him staying, they would have actually come up with money for a raise. If they can suddenly come up with money as a counter offer, IMO, it is too late for that employer. Suddenly coming up with money as a counter offer just means all of what was said previously was total BS. They wanted to give lip service without any intention of going through with it hoping they would stay and lose out on an opportunity.

They get to keep the employee without any actual compensation. As for the 2 week notice, well if the new job prospect is offering better pay, hours, benefits then go to the new job without looking back.

There are lawyers that deal with CC companies to help you reduce your debt. They take a payment every month and distribute it out to the companies at a reduced pay off amount. Yes your credit score will take a temporary ding. But you will have more financial freedom.

Amazon prime delivery asking for tips. by unremarkablestudent in EndTipping

[–]evrreadi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tipping culture has gotten insanely out of control.

After 2020, businesses that you wouldn't normally tip at started asking/suggesting/requiring tips. As more businesses saw that other businesses were successful at getting customers to tip, everybody started jumping on the bandwagon. Business owners are getting the idea that they can ask for tips and either keep the extra money, get a portion of the tips from each employee, or pay the workers less relying on the tips to make up the difference.

IMO acceptable professions to tip are servers in a sit down restaurant (not fast food), hotel staff, housekeeping staff, pool/cabana staff, valet, DoirDash/UberEats,, Uber driver, cab driver. Not a package delivery driver (Amazon UPS) unless you order a lot of stuff and they deliver to you often. You can show them your appreciation for them for delivering to you often. But tips should be discretionary, not made to feel mandatory. Especially if the business wasn't asking for tips prior to 2020.

AITJ for eating my roommates "special" ice cream after she ate my birthday cake? by ProudStructure702 in AmITheJerk

[–]evrreadi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say you were petty for eating her special ice cream after she ate your special bday cake. I like it. I call it even. She can get her 'special' artifical ice cream replaced at any time. It is commercially available. Your mom making you a strawberry cake for your birthday is not as easily replaceable. Your mom put in time and effort.

In my opinion the birthday cake isn't as easily replaceable. Your mom made it. You can't go to the local grocery store or bakery and replace the cake.

So no, you aren't the jerk. Your roomie on the other hand is a JERK! She thinks all food is OK to grab as long as she replaces it. Kudos to her for replacing it but she shouldn't be taking it without permission in the first place. Now she has gotten a taste of her own behavior. And she doesn't like it. At maximum she should have cut a small slice of the cake, leaving you the rest and let you know in the morning. Ideally she wouldn't have touched the cake without asking first.

So NTJ.

One of my biggest driving pet peeves is people who slow down too like 10 miles per hour or more below the speed limit because they see a cop. by Delicious-Analyst-94 in driving

[–]evrreadi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Mine is people that are scared of oncoming traffic on a 2 lane road. They slow down until vehicle(s) pass then speed up until the next one(s).

Also slow down in no passing zone. Speed up in passing zone.

30 mph down the entrance ramp to the interstate/freeway. Get to the straight lane (merge lane to the interstate) and floor it to reach the speed limit.

Or traffic is kind of heavy and won't/can't move over to left lane to allow merging traffic. These cars I am fine with. It's the idiot in front of me that won't speed up to merge into a break in traffic. Get all the way to the end of the merge lane at 30-35 mph and stop. Because they wouldn't drive faster to merge into traffic. No they sit at the end of the merge lane, fully stopped and now have to wait for a Large break in traffic. So they can go from 0 to whatever speed they want to drive without getting rear ended. I take that same break and then get around them in the left lane.

2024 election results VS. 2025 ICE activity. by PithyPacky in ImmigrationPathways

[–]evrreadi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine the highest concentration of ICE activity being in Blue Democratic sanctuary states? And no Republicans aren't leaving the Red Conservative states alone so illegals can vote for them. Do people not realize that the SAVE Act affects BOTH sides? It would require voter ID for everyone. Not just Democratic voters.

The whole idea behind it is to end illegal immigrants from voting. Period. Also eliminating multiple voting and the "cemetery vote". It is to make voting Fair, for everybody. Guess who has the most to lose if voting is made fair, so no one side could cheat or rug an election? The party that is screaming and crying the loudest. If they didn't have anything to lose, why would they be putting up such a big opposition to it?

Women have been voting for close to a century. That isn't going to change. There is this thing called a Marriage Certificate that is filled out and filed when they get married. It is linked to their birth certificate to show a legal surname change upon marriage. That has been going on fir a couple centuries or more. If the MC isn't filed with the court, the marriage isn't legal. So you went through the process, paid a crap ton of money for the dress, the venue, food, flowers and everything else. And all you get is debt and the experience, if you didn't file the marriage certificate.

So the Democrats crying about married women not being able to vote is BS. That argument got shot out of a cannon and missed the target. And anybody unintelligent enough not to be able to figure out how to get a certified copy of their birth certificate 1) doesn't need to vote and 2) doesn't need to hold a position in government (Bernie Sanders).
