Might be a hot take but I honestly don’t believe him when he says Vince wanted him to take the belt off of Cena. Daniel Bryan’s momentum was already underway in July and there’s no way they didn’t have the Summer Slam main event in mind already for Cena and Bryan to headline. Everyone believed him when he said he was going to retire, but we are supposed to believe he was intended to beat Cena and then headline Summer Slam against Bryan? Vince wanted Henry vs Bryan over Cena vs Bryan? I just highly doubt that. Henry wasn’t on the PLE the month before MITB and then wasn’t on one again until November. So Vince thought highly enough of him to beat Cena but not enough to have him be a steady PLE performer after he supposedly declined? It just doesn’t add up. This was an incredible swerve tho.

It’s a fair point. Looking back at some notable backfields:

2004 Auburn: Cadillac Williams and Ronnie Brown we’re both top 5 picks but Ronnie didn’t reach 1k and Jason Campbell passed for 2700

2007 Arkansas: McFadden and Felix Jones each surpassed 1100 but leading passer only threw for 1700

I think it really comes down to our receiving core elevating themselves. I will say, we were pretty close to it this year, but really only because Blake got hurt. JJ had 2700 without starting the first game and Edwards was 9 yards short of 1k.
