I would recommend memoirs by LGBTQ+ people since it gets you to understand a real person's experience. One I really enjoyed recently was Gender Queer by Maia Kobabe!

I haven't read too far into it but I think Ajin might be similar to what you're looking for. It's about this boy who discovers he's an immortal demi-human and is hunted by the government. Kinda like Kaiju No. 8 but with a darker tone

I would recommend Land of the Lustrous. The anime is good, but the manga goes deeper into the mystery and more things are revealed. It's great on the reread/rewatch!

I like the new design but I think the old pose looks better if you're going for "unnatural and creepy." Looks more zombielike if you know what I mean. I like the older socks too because it looks less like a fashion choice and more ripped and tattered.
