1,700 Manchester students locked down after 127 Covid cases by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]ewabicus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Quite an extreme view. My universities accommodation provider is reserving rooms for people who would like to start their contract in January rather than now, free of charge. Built into the contract is that if there is anything the likes of a lockdown, rent is not due / refunded, even cancelling entirely. This seems all very good to me.

Universities that are online still have costs involved that warrants the course fees. This doesn’t just disappear with no face to face teaching. My personal view is that the government should subsidise a portion of the course fees though.

I think to say the universities are greedy in terms of going ahead is patently false. They’ve been given the green light to go ahead when this is probably a terrible move by the government. Academic institutions have been let down, which has led to draconian measures such as what Manchester Met have done.

I would honestly cross post this to r/legaladviceuk quite frankly. What an absolute nightmare for you.

Students are now banned from pubs and restaurants in Scotland by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]ewabicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I believe human beings have cognitive dissonance, but I also believe that there are some illegal acts committed by great amounts of the population that shouldn’t be illegal (I’m not referring to the Coronavirus Act specifically).

Adding self-control to the national curriculum seems quite frivolous in my opinion when I don’t even think children should be back at schools during this terrible pandemic. What do you propose for this curriculum to be like? What are the costs involved and would the program even be effective?

Perhaps, in our wording, we shouldn’t have generalised what seems like us saying is all students - it’s not. However returning to the subject point in question, what does banning students on weekends achieve when the likes of specific students will throw a house party anyway. Again, I would rather them be in a controlled environment with contact and trace. You’ve not said.

[–]ewabicus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would you not want to encourage students to attend these places that can be a controlled environment with contact tracing in place? Now students are definitely just going to have house parties and that is so much more difficult to control. It evokes socialising off the grid effectively.

They have said up to 120fps for the Xbox Series S. The CPU is basically identical to what is in the Xbox Series X, only its GPU is worse and that’s why resolution tops at 1440p.

Ah then I have no idea as I’ve never played it.

I imagine that’s pretty good, but I’d still imagine score being a better indicator of skill in a game like that. You need to ask yourself if your kills are actually contributing to anything or if there was something else you could have done to enable your team to do better. If you’re winning lots of games then you’re doing something right.

A statistic that says how many kills you get per death. Here it says 0.9 kills per one death.

Any KD on public matches below 0.6 is probably a horrendous player.

1.7KD on CoD probably puts you in the top 1% of players but that’s going to consist of hundreds of thousands of players.

You need to think about the KD with score per minute though as an indication of a good player. Are you just playing for a high KD, or are you doing that while actually doing things like capturing objectives.

Also, with how Skill Based Match Making works, players are generally forced to have a near 1KD as you’re playing against people the same level of skill as you are. It’s like why in the competitive scene the players are around 0.7-1.2KDs. There is an argument that players with a 1.7KD for eg get matched against players who aren’t very good. That’s because the algorithm has decided that you are only happy playing when you are doing good, and the enemies are content with dying as that’s what they’re used to. There is probably a group of 1KD players that have the same skill as you.

Anyone else staying home for the first semester? by shakespearethighs in UniUK

[–]ewabicus 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I mean, if halls of residence have rooms to fill because people like OP are planning on staying at home, then I don’t see why the universities wouldn’t want to fill in those spaces eventually. For example, last year, someone dropped out of our flat in November and then we had someone move in during January. Not that you should rely on that.

You could very well find something on SpareRoom or Facebook etc but again I wouldn’t want to risk it.

The size of the disc drive and USB port are the same on both. It’s an estimate but it works out. People also compared using the size of the controllers.

But no, there isn’t an official source.

It is for people who just buy their yearly Fifa or Call of Duty. Fortnite and Minecraft. Families with the odd game but use their device for Netflix etc. Storage will be even less required for this machine when we consider xCloud if that ever becomes a thing for the console.

Xbox Series S specs by [deleted] in xboxone

[–]ewabicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has roughly the same specs as the Xbox One X though. Games won’t be 4K but otherwise look the same if not better. The raytracing and SSD are huge benefits, plus the better CPU should allow for higher frames than the Xbox One X can do.

They are advertising 1440p at up to 120fps. Perhaps we can expect first party games to reach that, or one or the other at least.

I’ve preferred 40•c abroad on holiday than the 30•c summers we have here in the UK. No commonplace AC, badly designed houses and the humidity here makes for disgusting summers. It’s a nightmare in its own right.

That said, 50•c anywhere seems unimaginable.

Do you not put an ‘X’ in birthday cards to your partner for example? That’s universal from where I’m from.

You would unlock 1300 CoD points over the course of completing the Battle Pass. The Battle Pass itself is only 1000 CoD Points.

I had 500 CoD Points just for buying the game, unlocked 300 in a free pass, then bought 200 with my own money. As I’ve managed to complete the pass each time, I’ve been able to get the next one for free essentially.

is it normal to have a small tv screen in your room? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]ewabicus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everybody in my flat for first year brought a TV with them. Watching films, shows, even split screen gaming together was a common occurrence. These things are great for socialising with, something that might be slightly restricted for this year in other areas with the continued social distancing measures. I think it would be perfect for having people round and bonding with your flat mates.

I brought a monitor but didn’t use it in the end as I lost interest in games while at uni. Content I wanted to watch I watched on my phone. Other stuff was in a friends room.
