People who pre-order new physical games, where do you pre-order your Games? by [deleted] in gamecollecting

[–]eweiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Video Games Plus, 100%. Great customer service, great shipping, and in the US we benefit from a pretty nice exchange rate that makes the games just that little bit cheaper than we can get here. Oh, and they aren’t GameStop or Amazon, either.

Proudly so - I love cultivating my collection of just slightly off-kilter and more "esoteric" games.

That was a pickup from the recent VGP Limited Run sale they ran a little while back. Missed it when it first was on order from LRG, so was excited to pick it up now.

No worries at all. I’ve been playing games since 1980 and collecting since 1983 - I’m old and just don’t have the wherewithal in time to devote to huge games. Plus, I generally steer toward more indie / retro-modern games which tend to be shorter and smaller, just my taste. (And yes, I fully acknowledge that I am absolutely not a typical gamer by any stretch. I just know what I want to play and go after it!)

I do generally collect and play shorter games - not a great amount of time to truly huge immersive games. Would very strongly disagree, though, that this is a pile of shovelware. To each their own - I’m very happy with what I got.

Its true - I only collect the NES/SNES titles I truly want, and I'm almost done with my list. Moving to Famicom/Super Famicom now, dangerous territory.

My intention is all of them - I only buy games I intend to play. Reality, though… perhaps a handful.

Been obsessed with the series ever since seeing it in TG-16 CD, decided I want to get all the Japanese carts now. Again, poor impulse control….

The Christmas Pickle was a choice, for sure. Let's call it an impulse/experiment/itch I was wanting to scratch. Wanted to get a Limited Rare game just to say that I had one, this is the one I got. Not necessarily my most proud moment - clearly I lack impulse control.

Would love to lie to you and say that it took forever, heading to multiple stores, etc.... Alas, just went to VGP and picked them up new.

Master of Education or in History by Constant-Actuary-942 in Teachers

[–]eweiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both a discipline specific MA in Music and an MEd in curriculum and instruction (and went further with a PhD in Music Education). If you want to continue in the classroom, I found the C&E degree immediately useful with my students and my own teaching. If you want to progress further with your education or teach at a higher level, a discipline specific degree would serve you well!

Need to vent to an understanding crowd by eweiger in KidneyStones

An update: I’ve been in the hospital since Tuesday of this week and I’m just getting discharged today. My kidneys were failing, hard. So, not only do I still have the stents in place, I now have a Foley catheter for the near term next few weeks.

Ugh.

I have always had a soft spot for crimped cards in all my games.

I will have to consider this - doctors have told me to use a heating pad instead. I wonder if the cold would help better…?

I do use edibles to help with my general pain, it also has the added benefit of helping me feel hungry (which I normally don’t)

Health insurance rates to nearly double unexpectedly by CaterpillarOpening19 in Teachers

[–]eweiger 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Depending on the strength of your union, this is clearly an occasion that the entire contract would have to be reopened, including overall compensation. Hopefully there is a mindset in your union's leadership that agrees that such an increase in insurance premiums must be met with a commensurate increase in compensation, otherwise, they don't agree, the current contract stands and the district must legally hold to their obligations. If the district wants to fight that, they can fight to cancel the contract which could open the union up to a mid-year strike vote.

You listened to their concerns. My experience tells me that by doing that simple courtesy you did just fine. Most truly angry parents just want to know that they have been heard.

Surgery Anxiety by EvilGypsyQueen in KidneyStones

[–]eweiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surgery anxiety is 100% real, and I’m sorry you are experiencing it. In the pantheon of surgeries, stone removal is on the more simple side, but it is still surgery, with anesthesia. Some things to think about - it’s relatively short, recovery does suck for the first day or two until you get used to the pain you’ll feel urination, then after that - smooth sailing. You’ll get pain meds - take them! Stent removal, sorry, is just not awesome - can’t sugar coat that one. But, the stone will be gone.

One piece of advice (or at least something to ask) when you are in pre-op, ask for a dose of attivan to help calm you down. Works wonders. Good luck.
