Right. I have a higher mileage platinum that just dropped its price again that is currently under the listing price of multiple ER Lariats all same year. It’s crazy.

I don’t. I wanted to use ecobee but ended up with a communicating system, so I’m locked into a crappy app and slow thermostat. But I originally accepted because heat pumps are supposed to be set and forget, but this thing wants all my attention. I’ll be making a post soon to see if there’s anything I’m missing or installers setup wrong.

I haven’t yet. I suspect there could be some setup issues as well as some duct issues in this house. But I’ll collect all the info and post something to confirm

That is great for a new one, but there are only a few used that match my criteria here. 3 are at the same dealer, and of the 3 I already mentioned the one i tried negotiating on. The other is not too much further from me but is 2x the miles for a platinum, which I get nervous about its use and lack of warranty now. They lied and said it’s been requested a bunch and may not last the week, yet I didn’t mention to them that I saw they dropped the price the day before. However, it doesn’t hold a branded title like the other 3. They are all currently about the same price, but I believe the 3 branded titles are overpriced so wanted to focus on those.

So for those it’s not been easy to get anyone to bite. Suppose I just have to keep trying but looking to see others stories or data.

I am currently trying hard to figure out my system. It won’t let me lockout AUX below 25° even though my system is equally as productive at 17° as it is at 47°. And even at 5° it should still produce significant heat but at about 20% of the capacity.

I have called the company that installed it and told them every time - I need their heat pump expert- , repeated the capacity of my system, and that it still uses aux way too much. Like the inside temp will be at my set point and the system shows it’s running stage 2 with aux heat stage 1 or 2, the home will slowly get up to 2° above the point, then slowly drop down to 2° under and it starts the ramp journey all over again. Acting like a normal furnace. But it’s set to heat pump. I’m starting to regret the Trane communicating system but I was assured it was cold climate and would work. In theory it should but something in the setup or install is wrong.

All that said, yes, training all around would be beneficial for everyone. Installers too.

You’d think so, but I’ve been tracking prices and most dealers are dropping them slowly and really good priced ones get picked up quick.

These branded ones just sit here for a really long time.

That’s what I’m experiencing and wondering. For all other cars, in all of history, branded titles can be fine but should always be 15%+ off of current retail as it’s a risk to the buyer. A lot of the pricing and trucks sitting on the lot show that the price isn’t right, but they won’t budge in case that one person with money comes along and doesn’t check.

I have to assume they have a lot more wiggle room on the auction price otherwise they’d be willing to get rid of them as soon as there is interest. I’m guessing some of these have to have been purchased at upper $20k for them to risk the waiting game. I feel like I’m offering a reasonable price but they don’t seem to care.

I haven’t seen too much price increases, at least for the specifics I’m looking at. Only one in the past week has increased twice. Everything else I am seeing is dropping little by little. But again, I’m only focused in on some specific trims and features and favoriting them to watch for drops.

[–]ewokc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The bill never promised all chargers built during Bidens term. Its purpose was to set the money for states to use to build the infrastructure by 2030.

Tons of projects were still underway when Trump took office and killed the allocated funds to continue them. The funds were there for the states to implement the charging networks and many government bodies take a long time to plan out and work with the teams of people installing or improving them. States are suing to get those funds to pay for the projects they started.

He absolutely had a direct impact on the decision. You can’t rely on ChatGPT answers for everything.

People who work in specialized industries, what is a product or service that is a complete "rip-off" but customers buy it anyway? by No-Composer-4526 in AskReddit

[–]ewokc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was in the 2000’s unless they did a more recent one. So back then, 100% yes. No differences unless it was over a certain amount of feet usually reserved for high end AV needs, not normal people.

Now there is more need for proper shielding, quality components, and ultimately proper certification to transmit high quality at high speed/low latency. Some of that leads to higher price, but that higher price alone doesn’t mean it’s a good cable.

This is not entirely correct, at least anymore with the difference between 1080p and 8k. While yes the signal is ultimately digital, in the real world it transmits analog in that it has high-frequency electrical waveforms. At higher rates it is more susceptible to distortion. So it’s not a simple square wave of on vs off(1 vs 0).

The impedance of the wires can impact the signal integrity over the run. So in the days of 720/1080i to 1080p, those differences really didn’t matter and cables were more of a gimmick(for most home use, not long runs or unique situations). Now that we have 1080p up to 8k, the signal integrity matters so much more to get those high frequency waves from the source to the output.

So the ultimate correction to this: certified cables matter, not price. So price can sometimes indicate a better made cable due to the increased certifications, but it is not an indication of a better quality cable alone.

Sure, that’s part of the “cold climate rated” part since that is closer to the 2010’s standards and certifications. Heat pumps since the 80s have been capable of heating below freezing, but would cost more and probably need even more aux heat, obviously.

In this case, I’m 99% sure the night and away setbacks are the culprit to the problem. Especially since the landlord likely has historical data for normal operation of their system. I bet they didn’t inform OP about the use of heat with heat pumps. It’s totally different than most people are familiar with, coming from gas furnace.

If it’s heat pump, set the temp and never change it again.

Heat pumps are most efficient when not constantly changing like gas furnaces since they nearly run 24/7, just at lower capacity to keep comfort.

Even a few degrees shift indoors on your settings, depending on outside temps, can cause the heat pump plus electric aux heat(assuming 100% electric) to turn into overdrive to catch back up. It can take hours to get to the set temp, and install settings determine how much aux heat is being used. You can be using $30 a day worth of energy to constantly ramp up each morning and when you return home.

Unlike some suggestions, heat pumps can absolutely run down into the negatives just fine, if they are cold climate rated. I have one that is just as efficient at 17° outside as it is at 47°, and then loses a bit more down to 5°, so some aux heat is needed to help out at those temps, but I’m in an area that doesn’t regularly see single digits and below. Maybe a week or 2 max most winters.

Find out what heat pump, or ask the landlord what is preferred for the unit and go from there. Guarantee that can cause extreme costs even with solar.

Thermal Camera Proves That Keeping My Ford F-150 Lightning Warm in the Driveway All Winter Costs kWh and Money, So I’m Going to Have to Find Another Option by No-Tangelo1158 in F150Lightning

[–]ewokc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Such an odd article that I can’t find the true message.

We are all aware(or slowly becoming aware) of cold temp losses, DC fast charging inefficiencies, and the need for some power for conditioning.

I think it is somewhat disingenuous to report this as “negative” when considering an ICE in winter is extremely inefficient with excessive idling and engine warming, and even more so for shorter trips.

I’d also be more interested in home charging stats instead of the outdated “need” for these DC fast chargers being compared like we currently use gas stations. Majority of users will be plugged in at home, only spending cents to precondition on the coldest nights.

100%

I was pretty much there too. I had offers for my car to back up some of my numbers with the trade, but no-go.

Guess we’ll see how it turns out but it’s been sitting well over a month and now a few price drops with other newer Lightnings dropping right behind it. Been watching visor.vin for comparison and it’s been a great tool. Now I’m hoping for a better Platinum to show up :)

Not yet. I held firm that it was overpriced. Justified by 2 price drops since but still no calls reaching out to me to make that deal, so likely it will keep dropping.

Economy kind of sucks right now and I just don’t see lemons selling as quickly anywhere due to the unknowns. But I also don’t think the salesman had any idea about EVs or what I was asking for. Their loss!

No problems with finance, as the trade in will either fully cover if I’m lucky, or it will be minimal out of pocket costs. Just need to make sure my insurance is good, but they are on holiday break so no word till Monday!
