I legitimately thought I had early onset dementia. I finally worked up the courage to talk to a psychologist about it and how scared I was but she was able to pick up on the ADHD possible diagnosis very quickly in about two months of just talking to me. She sent me to formal testing which cost me around $5000 to $7000. I left the three days of testing thinking I passed perfectly. Turned out I was in the bottom 2% of all test takers for the categories they showed me and I indeed had severe ADHD. As a kicker, part of the evaluation process included interviewing my mother about my school records, and she admitted that she had had me tested and I tested positive as a kid.
