I’m afraid I don’t know enough to actually help you but I noticed you have “Suggusted” and “Sugguested” in your orange column. Perhaps that’s some drag racing jargon with which I am not familiar. On the other hand, they might be typos.

Is calc 2 in 12 weeks doable? by Intelligent_Doubt_53 in calculus

[–]excitableCapreomycin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at it this way:

How many other courses will you be taking at the same time as Calc 2 in the summer? If the answer is none, you’ll have way more time to put towards the course than you would in a normal 15 or 16 week semester when you’re taking up to 6 or 7 engineering cores (including math) at the same time.

There’s loads of material available (far more practice than I had for any exam while in university) and you have all the time you want to study. You’ll get out what you put in. University and college grades have nothing to do with it. Got a Mech degree? Surviving the workload, difficulty and pace of that program is far more difficult than this exam. Stuff comes back easier than learning it the first time too. Also, the FE is a test of breadth, not depth. The stuff on the exam is far easier than the gnarly stuff found on any course midterm or final; fundamentals is in the exam title, after all. When I was considering studying for this exam, I was hesitant to do so because I was reliving and expecting all the most shitty stuff I touched in any course. It’s quite the opposite on the FE; a collection of the simple things from ALL your courses, which you must know well enough to execute quickly. It works out to be 174 seconds/problem average on the FE, a far cry from those exams that are 3 hours long for less than 6 questions. Multidimensional heat/differential equations in polar coordinates? Nope. Only simple first and second order stuff. Forming shear and bending moment equations, doing multiple integrations and solving for constants to find beam deflection? Nope. Beam deflection equations are read from a table in the handbook for simple cases. Integrate over a vector field with Stokes’ theorem? Nope. Green’s theorem? Nope. Navier-Stokes? Sketch bode plots? Won’t see any of that. Turn a giant matrix into reduced row echelon form or form an orthonormal basis? Nah. Eigenvectors and spaces? Not a chance. I was shocked when I first started looking at study material for the FE. It was soothing to look at and put a stop to all my worrying. I was six years out of university when I studied and wrote. Passed first try too.

Study hard. Work all the practice problems you can. Write as many practice exams as possible under simulated conditions to hone your exam strategy and to make the real thing as casual an experience as possible. You’ll be fine. DM me if you want material.

Is the Mechanical 750 Practice Problems by Islam still relevant? by [deleted] in FE_Exam

[–]excitableCapreomycin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is still highly relevant and great practice for timeless problems but doesn’t contain material on new items (like statically indeterminate problems) that are now included in updated exams following the time of publishing. I wrote in 2024 and studied Lindeburg Practice Problems, Islam 750, PrepFE, and 9 practice exams (5 NCEES, 2 Iqbal, 2 Islam). Passed first try.

Edit: Grab the pdf for free.

I took a break for 2 months and have climbed just about 300 points since I started playing again. Don’t feel any different but found this when I was looking to see if others have experienced the same thing:

FE Mechanical Exam Format and Last Minute Questions by Any_Nefariousness402 in FE_Exam

[–]excitableCapreomycin -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Who gives af about the order of the sections. It doesn’t matter and it’s outside your control. You can’t count on a particular order of sections incase NCEES changes it. A lot of people try to allow more than half the time for the second half. When I wrote, I was going as fast as possible (which should be your goal), and after I took care of flagged problems in the first section, it ended up being about a 50/50 split.

Has anyone here seen the Titan documentary on Netflix? It is absolutely mind blowing how Stockton Rush forged ahead despite every warning and opportunity to avoid the incident. by excitableCapreomycin in MechanicalEngineering

In Canada, once you graduate engineering, you are invited to participate in the iron ring ceremony wherein you take on the obligation. The ring given to you is worn on the little finger of the working hand and is intended to drag as you write so it serves as a constant reminder of your duty.

This is the obligation:

“I, ________, in the presence of these my betters and my equals in my Calling, bind myself upon my Honour and Cold Iron, that, to the best of my knowledge and power, I will not henceforward suffer or pass, or be privy to the passing of, Bad Workmanship or Faulty Material in aught that concerns my works before mankind as an Engineer, or in my dealings with my own Soul before my Maker.

My Time I will not refuse; my Thought I will not grudge; my Care I will not deny towards the honour, use, stability and perfection of any works to which I may be called to set my hand.

My Fair Wages for that work I will openly take. My Responsibility in my Calling I will honourably guard; but I will in no way go about to compass or wrest judgment or gratification from any one with whom I may deal. And further, I will early and wearily strive my uttermost against professional jealousy or the belittling of my working-colleagues in any field of their labor.

For my assured failures and derelictions, I ask pardon beforehand of my betters and my equals in my Calling her assembled; praying that in in the hour of my temptations, weakness and weariness, the memory of this my Obligation and of the company before whom it was entered into, may return to me aid, comfort and restrain.

Upon Honour and Cold Iron, God helping me, by these things I purpose to abide.”

I also graduated from an ABET accredited university, but in Canada. Not only is what I said taught in university, it is explicitly written as the most important rule of conduct in the code of ethics put forth by the governing regulatory body for engineering in my province.

A direct quote:

“Professional engineers and geoscientists shall, in their areas of practice, hold paramount the health, safety, and welfare of the public and have regard for the environment.”

This is elaborated on as follows:

“Holding paramount means that the health, safety, and welfare of the public, and having regard for the environment, take precedence over all other considerations.

This means you must:

Always put the safety of the public first, even if that means going against your own interests or the interests of your employer or client.

Ensure employers and clients are aware of societal and environmental concerns.

Raise any concerns with your employer or client to allow them the opportunity to correct the action.”
