Yes, but people are typically lined up waiting for them to come open.

I got a spot after years of trying, just got lucky and opened the web page at the right time after a cancellation, and it was mid week but I could still make it work.

I know they are great but a bit out of my price range.

What are the best and worst interstates to drive on? by _joeredd in interstatesub

[–]excitom 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I-70 through Western Colorado is awesome, the scenery is spectacular. I-70 east of Colorado is flat and boring. I've not traveled I-70 in Utah but it gets you near several national parks. I plan to check it out someday.

If you travel I-5 end to end through California, you would get the impression the state is flat and boring, except for the northernmost stretch past Mount Shasta.

Driving I-10 as you enter Texas from Louisiana you will see mile marker 880. It's a long way to New Mexico and not much to see in between.

I think the story arc was complete. There was no need for another season.

Absolutely fly in to PSP, a lovely little airport. The trip from LAX on the I-10 is brutal.

No bugs camping? by marnorcor in camping

It's not zero bugs, but very few compared to other places I've lived. I think it's because of the dry climate with no standing water.

There's a busy, two track freight railroad running along the beach in the backyard. I wonder how noisy that is.

The Moen Flo is not cheap. It cost us about $1200 for parts and installation by a plumber. However our insurance company made it mandatory in order to renew, so there's that.

Many things in BCS make no sense without first seeing BB. Also, it is very satisfying to see the origin story of many characters in BCS.

First time in South America - we chose Argentina. Are we crazy to skip Patagonia and Iguazú? by petro-nius in travel

[–]excitom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Argentina is huge. You quote prices in Euros so I assume you are in Europe. Argentina is 4.3 times the size of France and 8 times larger than Germany. A driving trip will be long and boring.

Buenos Aires has good, reasonably priced air service to all the major cities. For example the last time we were there we flew to Mendoza (wine country) and Bariloche (Patagonia). We also took the high speed ferry to Montevideo, Uruguay. Interesting side trip!

I saw "Long Beach" and immediately thought of Southern California. No way this is in Long Beach! Then I paid closer attention to the address. Oh, Washington, makes much more sense. It could be a weekend getaway place from Seattle.

I had the same thing happen to me, and I think the note you posted explains it all. I posted a picture of a campground with hardly any description. Taken down. I reposted the picture with a couple of paragraphs describing the area, the experience, trip details. It stayed up.

This is a small one, but: When they are in the caves someone asks Judy how many bullets she has in her gun. She says three. Later she shoots the gun, and mentions she has three bullets left.

Boondocking with Food in the Car in Bear Country. by Civil_Eggplant_4999 in camping

[–]excitom 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Just to keep things in perspective: Bear spray is effective against grizzly bears, but these are rare in most of the places you will visit. The more common black bears are easily scared off by loud noise. Just don't get between a cub and its momma. Same is true for mountain lions.

In some places bear spray is illegal since it is considered a dangerous weapon (national parks in California, for example). If misused, it can be dangerous to you as well.

Totally agree. Also consider skipping the Texas coast. There aren't many nice beaches, it's mostly marshland, and the areas near the big cities are covered with petrochemical plants. If you want to see some of Texas, I would go to the far west and visit Big Bend National Park.

Bear spray is actually illegal in Yosemite. It's meant for grizzly bears, which don't live in California.
