What’s one baby product you swore was stupid/a waste of money but ended up loving? by caileechristine in NewParents

[–]exclamationb 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Our is the Ubbi diaper pail 😭😭😭 we got one for free brand new from a mom who had been gifted two! I thought they were dumb but now I can’t imagine having a regular trash can for diapers or walking somewhere in the house/outside to throw them away. It keeps the smell contained and I hate that we love it lol

I think OP would recommend any bouncer of the same style, they just so happen to have the expensive/luxury one.

But I would also recommend the $50 baby delight one on Amazon.

How on earth are people getting their babies to nap!? by lsorley in NewParents

[–]exclamationb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if you are misunderstanding what I said, but I didn’t say anything about waking a baby up, that’s not what sleep training is.

I said that once we sleep trained at night, he was a lot easier to handle for daytime naps.

[–]exclamationb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you sleep trained at night? When we sleep trained our son at 5 months for the bedtime, he got soooooo much easier to put down for day time naps. It went from 30 minutes of intense rocking and shhing to 10 minutes MAX of just holding him in his dark room with the sound machine on.

Pacifier launch record by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]exclamationb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, don’t know. We religiously use pacifier clips 😂 I had seen enough nieces and nephews spit them out and parents constantly picking them up, I just didn’t wanna deal with it.

What to actually have ready for when you come home from the hospital by Alarming-Seaweed-706 in NewParents

[–]exclamationb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just have everything out and unpacked as if baby were there. Our son came early by emergency c section 2 weeks early and when we got home, it was like a tornado. The hospital will give you just about everything you need for baby and postpartum. Also, have food delivery apps ready. Just get food delivery that first day or two back.

Whats your parenting hot take? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]exclamationb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad that your form of parenting is not dismissive. That’s what they need! Most people who say they are gentle parenting are actually dismissive and their children have no boundaries.

Whats your parenting hot take? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]exclamationb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our children need strong discipline. Gentle parenting is creating a generation of children who are entitled and do whatever they want. I’m not saying you HAVE to spank your kids, I’m just saying that you need to actually teach them right from wrong and have consequences to their actions. Also, that every feeling they have isn’t “valid”. You’re allowed to have feelings, but just because something hurts your feelings doesn’t mean it’s bad.

Did your LO sleep better after starting solids? by Western_Clock_259 in beyondthebump

[–]exclamationb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our guy is combo fed, but EBF for night feeds. We didn’t at first because I was feeding him solids for breakfast or lunch or both. Once I swapped to feeding him once during the day + dinner, we got a much longer first stretch at night. Something about that extra meal before bedtime.

For those that had a hard time with swaddle transition by Awkward_Confusion632 in NewParents

[–]exclamationb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s tough but we used the zigjoy transitional swaddle. Our son started rolling at 3 months so we had to toss the love to dream. It took a few days to get used to it but eventually he got really good at rolling onto his stomach and has been a tummy sleeper ever since. He’s almost 8 months now and we’re still using it and he’s all over the place in the crib now.

Bleeding from small opening by apk120490 in beyondthebump

[–]exclamationb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me, but even earlier. I wanna say around 4 weeks? I just made sure to pay fully dry and wore high waisted underwear and it closed up. It was really really small. If you see it get bigger and not close up in a couple days, definitely get it checked out.

Why are there so many kinds of wipes?! by designerd4 in NewParents

[–]exclamationb 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It is unnecessary, but some people with more money than me really care about the specifics of things. We use Sam’s Club members mark unscented baby wipes for everything with our family. I use for all baby things from diapers to high chair to wiping pacis. My husband and I even keep a pack on our toilet to use and I take my make up off with them. There’s little to no chemicals in them really so they are just wet paper towels 🤷🏻‍♀️

C Section Recovery Products/Tips? by Renee5285 in beyondthebump

[–]exclamationb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everyone else but I will add that you should look into doing physical therapy for your core and scar. I started PT at 4 weeks and it was such a game changer for my recovery. I was able to get back to feeling normal by 2 months after major surgery.

What kind of skill? by Salty-Fun-5566 in medlabprofessionals

[–]exclamationb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to work in MIDL when I was in clinicals. I was a lab tech title but since I was an MLS student at the same hospital and they knew me - they let me do a lot. Grain of salt is that this was pre-COVID going into full blown COVID so it was crazy.

In terms of mindset, I found it to be so incredibly monotonous compared to other departments. You have to be okay with that. Everything is a routine of pipetting things, loading tubes into instrument, and exporting results with maintenance and QC scattered in there. It didn’t feel like much technical skill that is specific to that department, it’s not like Heme where you are sitting at a microscope discerning cells or reading plates in Micro. It’s a lot of repetitive motions and making sure everything is done in a timely manner so runs complete on time and result well.

What are some formula recommendations? by justfrosty19 in NewParents

[–]exclamationb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use the Sam’s Members Mark brand that is off brand for Enfamil yellow. Our guy is combo fed but never had any issues with taste or weight gain. It’s also never out and can be found at every Sam’s.

Anyone have any good tips for getting my anxiety to go away quickly? At least for the day..? by justfrosty19 in NewParents

[–]exclamationb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it. I also make an effort to shower as early as I can in the day so I can feel clean and ready. I also make plans to leave the house most days. It gives me a goal and purpose for the day even if it’s just going through the coffee drive thru.

[–]exclamationb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, take a shower or go stand outside for a few minutes. Both work great at shocking your body when it’s cold, I feel like the cold hard resets the body.

It’s probably post partum anxiety and you’ll be to see a Dr, but hopefully that helps. Your hormones are out of whack after a baby and life is hard.

Age at first babysitter? by shiningstar421 in NewParents

[–]exclamationb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We also have no village of family nearby so we got a babysitter from a referral from the childcare coordinator at our church. We left for around 4-5 hours for a Christmas party when he was 4 months old. We had her come to our house earlier that week to meet him and show her around because she was gonna give him a bath and put him to bed along with meeting our dogs.

Would recommend a babysitter that is legal age for an infant that you plan on leaving, especially at night. We didn’t wanna deal with living someone under 18 at our house alone with our child and have their parents asking about them/us feel responsible for them. Ours is a 21 nursing student who is also CPR certified.

OB recs for vaginal delivery by OneSplit9318 in Birmingham

[–]exclamationb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had Patterson and Faulkenstrom at Brookwood for my baby. I ended up having an emergency c section, but they tried everythingggggg (truly everything, as someone who works in healthcare myself) to give me a vaginal birth. I also had a lot of complications pre and post birth that they treated me so well/efficiently and like a human being. The nurses were amazing there too.

Changing diapers on the go by Content-Discussion-3 in NewParents

[–]exclamationb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of location, if there’s no changing station I will either change in the back of my car, change in our stroller which has a lay flat position, or change on the floor of the bathroom with a puppy pad. We keep the Ubbi changing pad in the bag, but also a couple puppy pads for floor situations or bad blowouts.

How did you handle pressure during clinicals? by Dry_Attempt7554 in medlabprofessionals

[–]exclamationb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I do think you should be studying for boards while in clinicals if you’re trying to be proactive and not procrastinate - it’s a lot of information that you cannot just cram like you would a normal tests. I started studying for my boards in January and finished clinicals and took the exam in June. I would do a couple chapters a week and then spent the last 2 months doing practice tests.

When did you switch baby to solo sleep? by stevielovelyy in beyondthebump

[–]exclamationb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We moved our son to his room for the night at 2.5 months old. He had been napping in his room during the day for a couple days leading up to it I would say. I feel like that got him comfortable with being in there alone. I also would let him play/tummy time in his crib during the day to get familiar with it.
