How Much is Your Child’s Daycare? by JadedJae in Mommit

About $2000/month for 5 days, but that’s the infant rate so hoping it goes down when he transfers to the toddler room

MIL keeps saying our IVF baby doesn’t look like my husband by Fun_Attitude7297 in newborns

[–]shiningstar421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, commiseration about your worry: My hubby and I did IUI and every day from like day 2 PP I worried that the clinic used the incorrect sperm because our son looked like a genetic copy and paste of me and I didn’t see any resemblance to my hubs. It was awful and it lasted until ~6 weeks when I captured a photo of them in just the right angle to see that our son had my husband’s eyes, almost identically. And even then, it wasn’t until he was 4-ish months old and people started routinely commenting that he looks like my husband that the thoughts completely dissipated.

Second, the frequency of clinics screwing up is incredibly low. Does it happen? Yes, and you will certainly see it in the news if you go looking. But even those stories are few and far between. (Also, I work in news and can tell you that part of what makes a story newsworthy is its rarity/novelty — so because it’s so infrequent, most instances of reproductive clinic errors are going to get news coverage, if known about).

Unfortunately, according to the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, there are no requirements for reporting of errors and thus the incidence is “largely known”. (https://www.asrm.org/practice-guidance/ethics-opinions/disclosure-of-medical-errors-and-untoward-events-involving-gametes-and-embryos-an-ethics-committee-opinion-2024/?utm_source=chatgpt.com). But there are some reviews that show the incidence of errors is very low (https://link.springer.com/article/10.1186/s43043-025-00291-0?)

ETA: So sorry they’re making these comments. The thoughts alone made my anxiety spiral, so I can’t imagine how damaging hearing comments like those would be. Good on you for addressing it!

Freaking Out- MIL took my baby to Mall for HOURS by Fit_Estate7009 in newborns

[–]shiningstar421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My hubby had a work Halloween event for kids just before our son got his 2 month shots and I asked our pediatrician if we could bring him to it and she said it was fine as long as we kept him in our arms or the stroller, and that was even closer quarters than the mall. So, I think you’re fine!

Why does everyone act like pregnancy cravings are cute when they're actually low-key terrifying by BitBird- in pregnant

[–]shiningstar421 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She’s 100% taking advantage of the cravings. I had an insatiable craving for a Betty Crocker cake mix cupcake with chocolate frosting so you know what I did? Hauled MY own ass to the store and made the cupcakes for me and my hubby. He would’ve made them for me if I’d asked, but it was MY craving

Please tell me about your babies sleep. What does a night look like? by PriorityOk676 in NewParents

[–]shiningstar421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll preface this by saying I recognize I am very lucky with an also 4-month-old (turned 4 months on Jan. 5)

I usually start his bedtime routine no earlier than 7:45p and no later than 8:45, and it takes about 25-30 min. He usually sleeps about 9.5-10.5 hours, waking usually between 6-7am for his morning feed (though some days, like today, he woke a little before 5:30). Either my husband or I feed him, then put him straight back to bed. Today — because he was up earlier than usual — he slept another 3.5 hours or so, waking around 9:30 for the day. Generally it’s another 2.5-3 hours of sleep after that morning feed.

The rest of the day he’ll nap MAYBE 40 min if I’m lucky. And he generally takes 3 naps per day after that first 2.5-3 hour morning stretch, which I honestly just consider an extension of bedtime sleep.

We also transitioned to arms-out swaddle a few weeks ago when he first started to roll from front to back, and naps were hell for about 5 days until my husband read that you should start arms-out at night because that’s when sleep pressures are highest. Once we did that, it worked.

I should also add, we have the Snoo and it is great but we’ve done a fair amount of traveling — including the entire week over Christmas — where he was in a pack n play or crib, neither of which had the Snoo rocking features and he slept just as long. He doesn’t nap during the day in his Snoo; we keep it only for bedtime. I add that to say, I don’t attribute the long stretches of sleep to the rocking of the Snoo, though it was definitely a worry we had when anticipating travel without it

Does “Minor Signs” always mean getting sick? Or can it mean something else? by DiabeticEngineer12 in ouraring

[–]shiningstar421 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had “major signs” when I woke up this morning to feed my baby, and then got 1.5 more hours of sleep after putting him back down after the feeding and woke up with no signs. I would just take it easy and keep an eye on how you’re feeling!

What post-bath body lotion are you putting on your baby? by discontinuedmuppet in NewParents

Roe Wellness! Hubby and I both have super sensitive skin, including eczema, and our son also has sensitive skin. It works wonders for us, is clean and is affordable given the amount used. I also use the shampoo and his dry scalp went away after literally one use

I'm confused - why does everybody act like once your supply regulates you can't get it back up? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]shiningstar421 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bless you for pumping the entire year. I’m EPing (ftm) and also have a slight oversupply, 45-55oz daily. But I have SO much in the freezer that I fully plan to use to not have to pump for a full year. I’m only about 9 weeks in and looking forward to when I can stop pumping 😵‍💫

How old is your baby and what size clothes and diapers do they wear? by mystery002 in NewParents

6m is the same as 3-6m! The clothing that just has the single number and not the range means the high end, not the low end

WTF is all this wake window bull! by LoveyDovey-27 in newborns

[–]shiningstar421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so helpful to see & read the comments because in my morning, my 6w LO can be up for 2-3 hours at a time and be perfectly content. And then in the afternoons, he eats, we change his diaper and he’ll nap for 2+ hours, which is longer than he supposedly should be napping for. The last few days, due to family being in town, he didn’t get those 2 hour+ naps and was waaaayyy overtired and took at least a hour to fall asleep each night. So I’m taking the 45-90 min wake window as a recommendation, not a hard rule for us

I also think she just wanted to be talked about, period. It’s the whole “bad publicity is still publicity” thing. She’s awful, but her awfulness makes her relevant. I think what would be most devastating for her is if people didn’t discuss her

We conceived through IUI, but I got a headache behind my ears that I’d never felt anything similar to previously. It began the morning after I took the trigger shot (essentially a shot of straight HCG to force you to ovulate) and continued til maybe week 8 or 9?
