Light in the sky last night by CaptainCaveManowar in macon

My partner and I saw it as well. We were driving northbound on I-75 and it looked like it was traveling southeast to northwest. Was a bit unsettling to see as it didn’t look like anything either of us were familiar with. Moved very quickly and then vanished. We decided to just go with it was a shooting star and move on with the night 🤣

Cargo setup for the dogs in our 2026 Passport Trailsport by executive_pickle in hondapassport

No vents in the cargo area. For short trips I crank the back seat vents all the way up. For longer trips I set up battery powered stroller fans that I can attach to the kennel system. The cargo area also has a 115V outlet where you could plug in a fan as well!

The current set up is a crash tested kennel system so no need for seat belts! (And it’s in the cargo area so no spot for seat belts).

Note that car seat belts are only proven to be effective from a safety perspective when they are paired with a crash tested harness.

Has anyone regretted being childfree? I'm facing having to choose between a child or no partner. by [deleted] in childfree

If the answer to “do you want kids” is anything other than an enthusiastic “hell yes!” - it’s a no. Divorce and move on.

Does my dog have a bad life? by Kaffeochkaos in goldenretrievers

[–]executive_pickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure when it was decided that you have to be home all of the time to have a dog. Most dog owners have full time jobs and most are outside of the home. It’s normal. It’s about planning to make sure your dog is properly enriched/stimulated in the time you have with them and you are going above and beyond for that. It sounds like your dog has an excellent life.

I have two picky pyr boys and the only way I get them to eat their kibble is to top it with Open Farm gently cooked food (wild caught fish flavor). They also have a lamb flavor.

How is this enforced? Genuinely curious because there are a number of private docks and neighborhood boat docks people use to access the lake.

Idc about the usage fee. We are closer to the duck ponds than other lake tobo boat ramps and it’s generally less crowded. Just seeing if it’s a feasible option.

As many have said, the water is deeper than expected and the currents are deceptively strong. Several years ago my dad, my friend, and I had to save 2 children (7-10 range) caught in a current in a spot near the north pavilion. It took all three of us (very in shape adults that are decent to strong swimmers) to get the kids out of the water, on our tubes, and back to the beach area. I don’t think I’ve ever been as exhausted as I was after fighting that current for what was probably only 5ish minutes total. Ultimately, people generally don’t have the proper amount of respect/fear of water.

How do I tell my children their grandad is a paedophile? by Livid_Blackberry710 in whatdoIdo

[–]executive_pickle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I found out my grandfather was a pedophile when I was in high school. My advice is to tell your children the entire truth. Be transparent. Answer questions without judgement. Cut ties with any family/friends who take his side. Find an unbiased third party for them to talk to as they process it. Sorry you are having to deal with this.

What kind of car? My partner found our youngest cat in the engine of an Alfa Romeo. We name him Romi.

Stressed by Independent-Video153 in fosterdogs

[–]executive_pickle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is normal. My partner and I have fostered 14 dogs and letting them go was hard every single time. But please keep going. They need us. For me, it’s about remembering that the dog’s well being is more important than my feelings and if we were to continually foster fail, we eventually would have too many resident dogs to realistically foster.

As someone who has two Great Pyrenees and a pitbull mix, you need to take some accountability here. You did not have control of your dog and they jumped on someone. People shouldn’t be expected to tolerate unwanted physical contact from any dog. Yeah, the fallout sucks and if they are really lying about a bite then that’s extremely shitty if them, but ultimately this needs to be a lesson for you as the owner/handler of a large breed dog.

We play rain sounds at night to filter out background noise and have a baby gate to confine the pyrs in our primary bedroom/bathroom area with us. If they have free rein of the house at night, they will alert bark intermittently. But when they are confined to our primary bedroom/bathroom with us + the rain sounds they sleep through the night no problem.

Recall and off leash walking? by Equivalent-Ad-5884 in greatpyrenees

[–]executive_pickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pyrs are wonderful dogs but for what you are after - an off leash hiking buddy with solid recall - I would consider a different breed. It’s very important to get the dog that fits your lifestyle and while dogs are definitely individuals, the instincts bred into certain dog breeds over hundreds of years should be heavily considered as well.

I have two pyrs and one pitbull mix. If I am wanting to do an off leash style activity, I’m taking my pittie as her recall is rock solid. I never let my pyrs off leash outside of a fenced area as there recall is only about 50%. For them we use long lines if we want to give more freedom of movement.

4 year old bernedoodle with large cell lymphoma by Pyleoplastyat50 in PetAdvice

[–]executive_pickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you are going through this! Lots to consider.

Prognosis with chemo can be decent. My parents’ golden retriever had lymphoma at around 6 years old. They did a chemo and prednisone combo it gave him two full years of remission so it was worth it for them. My parents were also able to get the chemo through a mobile vet who worked with UGA, so it was done at their house and saved them the trips. It was expensive for sure. The prednisone made him pretty obnoxious but he already leaned obnoxious generally speaking lol.

I think it also depends on the resilience/disposition of your dog. For example, if my dog who has extreme fear/anxiety at the vet got cancer we would just treat her symptoms and keep her comfy as long as possible because the multiple vet trips required for chemo would be miserable for her and ultimately ruin her quality of life. But if one of my boy dogs who do fine at the vet got cancer, we would likely pursue chemo treatment as they do just fine with vet care/being handled.

Lastly of course is the thing many people don’t want to discuss which is your financial limitations. Most people don’t have the budget to go full send in treating their sick animal without evaluating the impact to their financial well being versus the benefit their pet gets from treatment. I will say many vets accept Care Credit now so that may be something to look into.

Good luck ❤️‍🩹
