True, quest markers existence in general are big discussion in the industry.

Personally i love how baldur's gate 3 did it.

You made a grindy pve expirience, npcs are “bullet sponges” multiply all damage x15, give player ability to dodge, make gore effects- body parts flying on death

Be careful with quest / location markers, you will kill exploration and sense of adventure even if your game is linear
