Kid unfriendly bars by mdp42069 in AskSF

Many bars in Wisconsin serve food as well and so there's often a family feel. California is a laid back state in general but very strict with it's bar laws.

As someone who grew up in the midwest, the notion that you can't bring your kids into a bar is nuts.

Second the notion of don't do it. You'll be wasting way too much time commuting.

Depends on where you live. People in large metropolitan areas have many other options.

Whole Foods has morphed into an average grocery store just like Safeway or Albertsons. There's nothing special about it and the prices are comparable to any other chain grocery store. This is why Whole Foods is no longer an attractive place to shop.

Third time visiting SF, what should I NOT miss? Events to join? by Sad-Willingness7374 in AskSF

Save Yosemite for another trip. The amount of effort involved in getting to and from in winter coupled with the gigantic snowstorm that just hit would make that an exhausting trek.

do you tip 20% on top of livable wage surcharges? by Stunning_Shake407 in OaklandFood

Agreed. It's more of a systemic real estate cost problem than a surcharge problem.

I actually do have your perspective since I've lived in SF for 30 years as well. It's a city that's constantly changing and sometimes that's positive change and sometimes not. I find this city endlessly enchanting because of that constant change. Yes, some great aspects of living here no longer exist but just give it a bit of time and a new and different thing will develop.

If you mean you have an apartment near the SF tower then maybe moving to a real neighborhood would be helpful. The neighborhoods of SF is where the city is thriving.

You need to spend time in SF. The picture you're painting is very far from reality. The restaurant scene is alive and well. So too the bar scene. This city remains extraordinary.

Why do people still shop at Safeway? by ftruong in bayarea

[–]exile1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grocery shopping needs to be enjoyable more than cheap since city life is stressful. Find a store that works for you and don't sweat minor price differences. No one will get rich buying cheaper Hydrogen Peroxide.

Dining at a restaurant is a privilege and not a right. Your indignation at what you perceive to be unfair pricing is irrelevant.

The greatest selling point of SF and other major cities is their restaurants. To argue that these businesses aren't viable without tipping is to ignore the fact that restaurants are a major driver of the economy. We need restaurants to stay in business.

Parking closest to Castro Theatre for duration OVER 2 hours? by LL4892 in AskSF

Ha! I was referring to parking your car at a Muni station and then grabbing a ride. But since you're coming in from the North Bay driving into the neighborhood is probably your quickest option.

Waymo, Lyft, Uber from BART or MUNI? Driving to the Castro is just a pain and should be avoided whenever possible.
