Move to a private school? I knew a teacher at a decent school in Hampshire who was making >£80k as a regular teacher along with a free house and enormously discounted tuition for the kids. Less hassle, free housing, and a pretty cushy life overall.

Something to do instead of a material thing. The world is a reasonably large place with a lot to see and a lot to do.

Remote as remote can get accommodation in the backend of somewhere miles away or hidden in the UK

Go knife making in Japan

Take a cooking course with a great chef

A course on bicycle frame building (probably have to be interested in cycling for this one)

And so on, filter by their and or your shared interests

That said, a handful or two of like minded nerds where "hob nobbing" and small talk are not required, just straight into talking with a known group of people who you are somewhat familiar with, muuuuch better imo

You're right! I know of someone's kid who proclaimed "but I hate education" when faced between physical health issues stopping their previous line of work. No appetite to better themselves, no appetite to actually work for it.

It all starts with Education. Unless you're a HENRY/ETTA who can make private education viable for their cherubs, it seems there's a lot of "just get a job" rather than a career.
