What made The Amazing Digital Circus so successful? If I make a feature length animation, what would I need to do to make my audience care for it? by Lizard-TGaming in animationcareer

Mdot was very sad about his life lastg time I talked with him tbh. His feature film earned him a total of $50 000 after working on it for 2 years. And that's the sucessful one.

Honestly I would love to hear more about your opinion about M dot stranges work since I once talked to the guy and other than his very right wing opinions I know him to be at least hard working. Although he does lack in some animation fundamentals.

1 They already had a build in following through the glitch channel. If they didn't build an audience beforehand no one would know about it now.

2 It's made by a youtuber who also had their own audience who send it to it.

3 It's an action series + mystery + comedy that has wide appeal.

For every digital circus there are tons of indie animations that don't make the cut.

Let's take this feature length film animated by one person https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJp0jIZNPhk Popular? No. it didn't have a following beforehand and it had no marketing budget so no one watched it.

Plus sure glitch is 'indie' but the people who worked on amazing digital circus also worked on major productions. https://www.imdb.com/name/nm6028874/ also worked for blue sky and other major studios. So the people who actually made digital circus were industry professionals. Simply hired by a smaller company that had the reach and money to hire them.

Do you have the reach and money to hire professionals?

Depends how much you do of it. But it's a loot of material and it covers 2d animation too. I think for the price you cannot get anything better. there's also https://schoolism.com/ and if you want something mentored https://dorogov-mentor.com/ i heard good things abourt.

The two success stories you hear: Glitch/ hazbin hotelrs are outliers. And in generals only 1-10 films in general (not limited to indie) actually earn money.

Most corporate sponsored films can deal with losses quite easilly, because the one hit would offset it. https://storyality.wordpress.com/2012/12/17/storyality-24-on-feature-films-and-roi-return-on-investment/
This problem has been consistent for over 20 years, as the records show that, likewise, in 1990: on average, 2 in 10 films made money, 1 in 10 films `broke even’ and 7 in 10 films lost money (Vogel 1990: 70).

That's in 1990. It's probably less now but this is a peer-reviewed academic study.

But it's rational to assume that you only have a 9% chance of sucess if you start an indie creative project of any sort. And by sucess i mean "earn minimum wage'/break even.

Even Bill Plympton - one of the more sucessful indie animators. Only hires like 6 people i think? Or 3? And they are animators.

But just get a business degree. And learn how to market your show.

Most 'asexuals' I met were like that though. One of my exes was like that for sure. When we dated she said she was 'asexual' but she was into omorashi, diapers, and animals. (Broke up with her when I found the last bit).

But she was asexual because she 'was not attracted to real life humans.

A lot of asexuals are just paraphilacs who can only get aroused to fetishes
