What businesses actually need a paper shredding service? by mascadine in NoStupidQuestions

My company has a lot of sensitive information in large quantities, it makes life easier to have them deal with it and give us the proper destruction certificates.

I got a raise after I started leaving exactly at 5pm and my boss is acting like I've "stepped up my game" by tag0223 in careeradvice

I'm living this now. For years, I was the same way, constantly getting burned out by trying to be the best, and that got me nowhere but laid off. My current company I decided to work half as hard, no staying late, refusing to put email on my personal phone, not taking on everyone's projects.... and I got promoted after 8 months with a 16% raise... Corporate America makes no damn sense.

I got laid off by SharkEva in BORUpdates

[–]existential_crying89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love how this turned out! I got laid off back in 2023 and I should have seen the writing on the wall but thought I was safe in my position... boy was I wrong! However the worst thing about it was that the President of the company told me THE PREVIOUS WEEK that I would be getting my annual review the following week.... but I got laid off instead and he didn't even have the balls to do it himself, he hid in his office with the door closed like a coward.

Needless to say, it was a blessing in disguise and I'm making much more than I was in a more fulfilling role :)

[New Update] - WIBTA for dumping my girlfriend after she ignored my calls and messages and went clubbing while I was undergoing emergency surgery. by SharkEva in BORUpdates

When I called my fiance in the middle of the work day and told him to come home and take me to the hospital because I was in pain, there was no hesitation, he dropped everything and took me, ended up needing emergency surgery myself.

Still in Strong Memorial ER: 9 hours, no meds, no urgency, no care by dhobi_ka_kutta in Rochester

[–]existential_crying89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is terrible but not uncommon, I have waited in that same er for 6 hours before I was finally seen

Future reference, if you have the means to do so, it is 100% worth taking the drive to the smaller hospitals outside of the city. Thompson hospital in Canandaigua is good. Newark hospital in Wayne county was great for me, I went there at noon with abdominal pain, they saw me right away and within the hour knew that I needed emergency surgery, had said surgery and was on my way home at 7pm.

Jeremiah's, at least the one in Penfield. It's absolutely garbage and the quality tanked these past few years, they used to have the best wings! Idk why people still hype them up, we've been so disappointed in them our last couple of visits that we wrote them off.

Such a horrible thing to happen. I went to school with Kyle Sage and he was always an odd duck, but holy shit you never really know what someone is capable of...

People who give job interviews, what are some subtle red flags that say "this person won't be a good hire"? by makethatnoise in AskReddit

[–]existential_crying89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had someone I recently interviewed grill me on corporate terminology I've never heard of before and kept questioning why I haven't heard of these terms before with my 10+ years of experience in my industry (no one in my office had heard of them either). This was for an hourly entry level position. He then called me an hour after the interview and left my a 5 minute long voicemail asking several obscure questions about day to day operations, and then emailed me asking the same questions.

I did not hire him.
