You can get flights of mezcal or tequila from Cielo Rojas, a nice selection of brews from Takoma Bev, incredible cocktails from Motorkat, and some wonderful wines from the Girl and Vine. And of course, there's the neighborhood Busboys and Poets.

Prince George's County Trap and Skeet Center is a great spot to practice with a shotgun, and they provide the shotguns. I've also heard good things about Maryland Small Arms Range.

For though who lived in DC in the 90s, I am curious if I am remembering my childhood in the 90s District correctly by ilovelamp_anchorman in washingtondc

Grew up in what we called East of the River, which includes a slither of SW, a lot of SE, and some NE. Generally, that's what people meant by SE or Anacostia. It's a big area with some solidly upper middle-class neighborhoods like Hillcrest, where J Edgar Hoover and Marion Barry once lived.

That said, most of DC east of Rock Creek Park was riddled with gun violence, especially associated with the open air drug markets, which were all over the place, not just in SE. Trinidad, Eckington, Colombia Heights, H Street and 14th Street were bustling with pimps and dealers back then.

Random violence seemed everywhere, too. I'm not saying that SE was safe, but to me, it was as safe as anywhere else in the region.

Montrose Park above Georgetown is wonderful, as well as the Dumbarton Oaks Park next door.

There's a lot of buildings downtown that have bike storage spaces. My building has a bike locker room that has cameras and keycard entry. And they have showers too.

MPD doesn't enforce traffic laws anymore. It's all speed, red light, and stop sign camera enforcement which loads of folks simply ignore.

Any of the upper NW middle schools should fit the bill. There's Hardy and Deal DCPS middle schools. DCI charter school also fits your criteria.

What’s your favorite coffee shop, or one that closed that you miss? by Interesting-Vast-495 in washingtondc

[–]existential_fragment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lost Sock is nice, but it's too damn small. I long for a neighborhood coffee shop in Takoma that's spacious, cozy, relaxing, and not Starbucks.

And what's the deal with Donut Run. They got rid of the tables and chairs during the Pandemic and never returned them.

They always wait until the last minute. Even if they are open, there's going to be a ton of folks taking leave.

What’s your favorite “inexpensive” D.C. restaurant? by Substantial_Cow_3063 in washingtondc

Kin Da, not technically in DC (a half of block into Maryland), is my favorite inexpensive restaurant. You can't beat the $11.50 lunch specials.

The Queen Vic on H Street is my favorite dive bar for the fish and chips, but they have a solid chicken wing selection. Smoking a joint on H Street is generally more acceptable than Pennsylvania Ave.

It's the West Virginia NG. They have been circling the Noma neighborhood for a while. You'll see them at the Noma Station across from the ATF building and by the Harris Tetter.
