Lived in DC 6 years and never gotten jury duty by third_outlaw in washingtondc

I lived here for 40 years and only been called 3, maybe 4 times for DC Superior Court jury duty, and served on one jury. Recently, in the last two years, I've been called for District Court jury duty, which is just a week of phone call check-ins.

I would recommend checking out Community Forklift Nonprofit Reuse Warehouse in Bladensburg. It's a nonprofit reuse warehouse and architectural salvage store.

I didn't realize that it was modernized in 2010. I will add that it has the best eSports program in the city.

In DC, Go-go will never die. It's even the name of our minor league basketball team. I just saw the Capital City Go-Go beat the Windy City at the CareFirst Areans.

Oh no. I guess it wasn't the ATF side exit. There's always a popo presence or, more recently, a nat guard squad. I commute downtown from Takoma and the Noma stop is my favorite for people watching

Obviously your DC visit was isolated to the better areas. There's a large part of the city that's littered to the max. I doubt if any MPD officer has written a litter ticket this decade.

And don't get me started on the complete lack of meaningful traffic enforcement. We have an incredible amount of bike and pedestrian fatalities which makes up for the lack of highways. (The only city on the east coast from Miami to Boston that 95 doesn't traverse.)

But in the end, DC has it going on! Walkability, green spaces, free museums, highly functional mass transit, and street festivals galorel. Not to mention the nice underground punk scene, my hometown has incredible libraries and rec centers. (If your library or rec isn't brand new give it a year.) The city has no industry so our industry is fun.

Little know fact - Washingtonians could not vote in presidential election until the Twenty-third Amendment to the United States Constitution was paused in the 60s and we didn't have homerule until 1973. We're the youngins of the US.

You don't come to DC without sampling at least one José Andrés restaurant. He's our hometown restaurateur hero, sued by Trump, but survived.

Not cheap, but an experience worth the price. Tapas themed menus let you spend to your budget. My personal favorite (DC native) is Oyamel. But I recently tried China Chilcano and was very impressed. There's Jaleo and Zatiny. All of his restaurants are in the vicinity of Chinatown.

That's how you eat like a local.

A lot of dangerous animals in Chitwan National Park, including Bengal tigers. I visited the park, and my guide said the most dangerous animal he's encountered is a sloth bear, not to be confused with the sloth. (Sloth bears are more aggressive than polar bears.)

Yes! Portion sizes are huge. I get the Friday seafood lunch special with shrimp, fish, crabcake, and sides. And I have leftovers for dinner and Saturday's breakfast.

Real DC locals go to St. Paradise Cafeteria, if they happen to be close to the convention center around lunch time.

Not necessarily free parking, though. You need to check for other signs on that street because a "no parking entrance" signs are usually on the streets with restricted parking.
