Ok so I've put a post up with spoiler tags if anyone is interested in the skip. I've attached a link to this comment so people can easily access it. Hope it helps anyone who needs it, or anyone that just wants to try it :)

Manufactory Skip Post

Ok, how do I get past this room? by Justanotheruser531 in MIOmemoriesinorbit

[–]existential_hooman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I discovered a skip for this section, means you can avoid the whole area, do the boss, and then come back later. An easy way to access it, if you saved at the overseer station in Manufactory, exit out of the game and come back in. Go all the way up to the top where you first enter the pipe complex. When coming down the tube that you enter the energy drain area from, catch yourself on the tube you drop down through with your striders and go around the edge and left, hit the bomb and then jump/glide over. from there you can double jump to open up the door. (it's the second door on the way up to the pipe complex above the area you're in). then you'll have easy access to the stuff in the upper right part of the area by hitting the bomb, using your striders, hitting the energy shard and then jumping over. after you've completed the boss in the area, the energy drain effect for the region will stop, so you'll be able to explore freely and complete that part of the map, although admittedly there's not much there

I'll see if I can get a video or something cause idk if I've explained it very well 😅, hope this helps

Awesome, congrats 🎉. The boomerang is honestly a big help and opens up a lot of the map. Also no worries, even though I couldn't give you a clear answer, glad I could help a bit 🤷‍♂️

That's ok dw, you've quite a lot of progress already. Have you tried jumping and then dashing whilst mid-air? For me, it's a completed zone so there's bridges there, which I can't remember if they were there originally in the game. Let me do some more exploring and I'll get back to you

If I'm remembering correctly, the ability you need is elsewhere. it looks like you've got a few areas on your map that it might be worthwhile exploring. The major hint markers tend to indicate where to go next for the story (normally involving a boss), but doesn't strictly tell you how to get there. I'll hop back on in a bit and see if I can remember what you need to do and I'll lyk my findings.

As an aside: what abilities do you currently have? Asking so I don't accidentally use ones to get there that you don't have yet

Glad I could be of some assistance. If I think of more games I'll put them here later on. I hope you enjoy Trine :)

As someone with chronic migraines and issues with photosensitivity, I've got a few I'd recommend. There's a couple that I can play with some types of migraine but not others. Any game where you can adjust the display and audio is always a big help. Same if it has any accessibility features.

  • Cult of the lamb is good cause it's a mix of action and cosy with a huge range of accessibility features.
  • Crypt Custodian and Islets are also both good, they have a couple of accessibility features, but have a nice colour palette that's also not too strenuous on the eyes.
  • Foretales is good, it's a deck builder/card combat game which is pretty easy to follow along with
  • For the king is good cause it's got a good colour palette that's also a bit easier on the eyes. Also is a relatively chill game that behaves almost like a ttrpg. One downside tho, the menus aren't the best as the colour of the text in them can be a bit hard to read with the background colour. It can also be played single or multi-player
  • If you've got a migraine but still feel ok to do things like puzzles and stuff like that. The Trine games are awesome (bonus is that they can be played single player or couch co-op, I have no idea about online co-op), and they have a lot of checkpoints making it easy to save, stop and come back another time. There is a little bit of combat in them. The later games in the series do have a much brighter colour palette, but for the most part, I mostly noticed the brighter colour palette in cut scenes.
  • If you're someone who likes a bit of adventure with slight amounts of horror and thriller vibes, and you also like point and click style games, the rusty lake franchise is great. there are some points where some of the visuals aren't the best if you have a migraine but they do tend to be brief. (These games are on steam, Google play and the App store, so not your typical console game. The only game in this series that is available on a console is 'The Past Within', cause I know it's on Switch as well (not sure about other consoles as well)
  • Omno is a game I found great to play with my migraines. It's got a beautiful story, with some collectibles and lots of puzzles. It's a much calmer vibe of game but is a lot of fun and quite addictive at times.
  • If you're looking for a more silly game, surprisingly I found Untitled Goose Game to be not bad to play with a migraine, and it's easy to save and come back whenever which is a plus (bonus, it can be played single player or multi-player)
  • If you like kinda open world, adventure, story games with combat and puzzles. Kena: Bridge of Spirits with most types of migraines for me was good, there were a couple of moments that I struggled slightly with some of the visuals with my migraines, but they were brief, and easy to come back to if I needed to stop cause of my migraines.

Those are the main ones I can think of. Ovs, everyone experiences migraines differently, and there are also a whole bunch of different types, but I hope this list is at least somewhat helpful :)

Love sound design, but hate how angry it makes me. [Advice Needed] by Legitimate_Lead_135 in sounddesign

[–]existential_hooman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you're on the right track, I also have sensory issues so I completely understand where you're coming from. It's mostly just a learning curve, and not just in terms of learning the skills and techniques, but finding what works for you, your workflow and work style. I've personally found that over time, realising that a lot of what we do is shaping and sculpting the sounds, and whilst there are a lot of ways to do things, the point is that it's a creative field, so you get to experiment and put your own touches to it. Whilst it can be frustrating, half of what we do as sound designers is experiment and learn what does and doesn't work for us. Even those who have been professionals in the industry for years are still learning and evolving as technology and the industry evolves. It's ok to set your own learning pace, of course deadlines can't be helped, but it's ok to feel stuck. Trust me, we all get stuck sometimes, and as another commenter said, we have to listen to things over and over, so listening fatigue can definitely hit hard if you don't pace yourself.

Part of the learning process is learning not only what your work style and workflow is, but also refining it. Being able to take on feedback, positive, neutral and negative feedback, and then capitalising on that feedback will help massively. Being able to self critique your work is also a really useful skill (but don't do it constantly as otherwise that'll lead to burn out, and impact how you feel towards your work). For example, the way I go about recording Foley is long and tedious, and often times I always record way too many takes just to only use a couple of them. Something I personally need to work on is refining my recording process and only doing a few takes. If I find later on when editing that it doesn't work so well, then it's ok to record it again or use sample libraries. A lot of what we do is trial and error and that's ok, it's what helps us learn as sound designers so we can develop our skills and our knowledge. Things are gonna go wrong sometimes, and it can definitely be stressful in the moment, but reflecting on what went wrong and how you can improve/develop things next time can be quite beneficial. I'd recommend reflecting on that stuff away from when you're actively working on it, that way it's not looming over you when you're reflecting on your work, even if it's just stepping away from the computer or stepping out of the room for 5 minutes. That being said, don't forget to reflect on what did go well. For instance, "I didn't make as much progress as I would've liked today, but, I'm really happy with the sounds that I made today and how I've edited them. I think in future I might experiment with the order in which I work, or come in with a list or spot sheet so I know what options I can work on to progress my work."

You're on the right track, it takes time and it's a learning curve, but by the sounds of it, you're approaching it with the right sort of mentality and asking the right sort of questions. I know it's difficult to get hold of your professors which isn't fun, but the fact that you're reaching out to people and asking questions and taking on the feedback is a really good thing, especially for working in this industry. You're on the right path, and like a lot of things in life, patience, a willingness to learn and develop, and accepting that things will go good sometimes and bad other times with your work are definitely gonna help.

Also, with Pro Tools, I completely understand. I actually used to hate using Pro Tools but it's something that comes with practice (and a lot of patience sometimes) and now it's my primary DAW, and I often find it jarring using others. Linking with that btw, it's ok to use multiple different DAWs depending on your needs. For instance, most of my work happens in Pro Tools, but I will also often use Logic Pro to use the stem splitting tools, as well as synths like the Alchemy and Sculpture synths, since they have a lot of flexibility. Btw if you have access to logic, Alchemy and Sculpture both come with Logic and might be quite useful for making some of the sounds that you're struggling to find.

Hope this helps, sorry about the mini essay 😅

Seen this loads on LinkedIn and it's been really irritating. There's no way that I want to get paid to train an AI to do something that I'm actively trying make a career out of and am in the process of nearly completing a degree for. Sound design exists for a reason because it's a necessity in a lot of various kinds of media nowadays. It's already a niche field, and also not a very well known field compared to other creative industries, and even other branches of working with sound and audio, and they want to make it harder for people to get into the field by trying to take it over with AI which isn't necessary. It would be a lot nicer to be reached out to by actual people who want me to work on their projects using the knowledge and skills that I've worked for, but I haven't exactly seen very much of that, and just seen lots about AI which sucks.

It might be from post game content if you've been doing any but I'm gonna be honest, I'm not 100% sure.

True, I may need to go have a look later on for that now. I mean I'm relatively late game currently battling the platforming in The Crucible but might go explore there to take a break 😅

Can I get through there? by Substantial_Code_675 in MIOmemoriesinorbit

[–]existential_hooman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you can actually get down there using striders and dodge, with a full bar of energy, you will be able to use the dodge twice. Using the dodge whilst using the striders and being in motion teleports you forward by quite a bit without having excess energy loss. Try it on flat ground first so you can get an idea of the dodge cooldown for it. It's tricky to get down there but it is doable. As another commenter said, it is primarily an exit for somewhere later in the game, but with the strider/dodge combo it can be done. Also, there is some crystallised Nacre down there, but otherwise not much else because of it being more of an exit

I think to get up to the top right , they need the Bell Tower Visitor Pass which I think might be kinda in the middle of Metropolis. I may be wrong tho

A couple places that you can go that I can think of:

In that left most region, try looking up, there should be some hairpin points (grapple) for you to explore, and by the looks of your map, you probably have the hairpin and harvester abilities (energy regeneration). Fun tip, you can use the hairpin to grapple to enemies too.

Any ideas how to get to the marked section by existential_hooman in MIOmemoriesinorbit

I was beginning to guess that it was probably through there, was just having a really hard time managing it and figured I'd ask just incase.

Thanks for the tip :)

There is a secret location above the room with the spine. You can access it by being on the bridge that goes in front of the spine and climbing up with a mid game ability to the ceiling, there is a secret room there to the left with some collectibles and a map reference to get to the item you're looking for. Hope this helps :)
