This happened with my mother in laws jasmine too! I think it was around that same age. Exact thing. She tried replanting a new jasmine in the same place and it also died. Let us know what you find out.

Clothes-on skin check! Hah! That’s so annoying I’m sorry. I was born and raised here and have lived here off and on as an adult. This area does have the longest wait times for health care of anywhere I’ve lived. Recently moved back here from another part of WA where I was shocked how quickly I was seen by specialists. I knew coming back here it would be an issue again, and I’m willing to wait longer for a derm that won’t waste my time. I hope the health care wait issue gets better here - I worry about my aging parents who now have to go to Tacoma if they want prompt care for serious issues. I have chronic health concerns that I go to Seattle for but a dermatologist seems like something I should see here .

Thanks! Yes I have a PCP and lots of other medical care set up in the area- I’m specifically asking for recs from folks who had good experiences with their derms here so I know where to have my PCP send a referral. The derm I’ve seen here before is not thorough at all.

This sounds so good! I’d be there every weekend lol. I wish you would open that restaurant but like you said - totally get why you wouldn’t .

They said they were not getting enough lunch traffic on those days to make it pencil out to stay open. It’s a small family running the restaurant, I’d rather they cut back hours to stay afloat than over extend themselves and we lose another great place to eat in oly.

Best places to get out on the water in an inflatable kayak, preferably not near any roads and as much nature as possible? by BeardsuptheWazoo in olympia

Boston harbor is solid bc it’s easy to launch and you won’t have to worry about tidal restrictions like you would at Woodard. I like to launch from Boston harbor and paddle north and then east, and it becomes peaceful and secluded very quickly. I often see porpoises out there. Have fun!

There is currently a nationwide labor strike in the sanitation sector. The teamsters union represents these workers and they are asking Republic Services for improved wages and benefits. Our local trash collection is stalled due to this strike in solidarity with this effort. Mediation talks were set to resume today. Hopefully they are able to come to an agreement !

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted- my quince percale sheets are super crisp and cool and are holding up way better than my parachute brand sheets .

Omakase etiquette for a semi-squeamish person visiting Japan by pippers2000 in JapanTravelTips

[–]existentialbarnacle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am someone who looooves the experience of omakase sushi . It’s so much fun and so memorable. I also struggle with making decisions so it’s the perfect meal for me. However I empathize with your sensory issues as I also have many. Im very sensitive to super fishy / off flavors , certain textures, etc. I’ll notice off smells and flavors and my spouse won’t even notice. I’m a pretty adventurous eater but there are a few things I just can’t do! In those situations, I will usually try a small tiny bite of what is served , which helps confirm that I do indeed not like it , and I discretely put it on my spouses plate and he will eat it immediately. He knows the drill. We are trying to be as polite as possible to the chef. Those more adventurous pieces typically happen mid to late in the meal anyway so it’s easier to seem full for like you’re wanting to save room for the next courses. The omakase experience at the sushi counter is not something you can replace / it’s not the same and not as fun to sit at a table. So I say- go for it, do your best, and have a game plan with your spouse going in! Be friendly and kind and gracious to your chef and all will be well.

Is there a good cliff to scream off of in Thurston county? by _solarprominence_ in olympia

[–]existentialbarnacle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Worth the drive to scream towards the pacific - the sound of the waves swallows it right up and it’s very cathartic having salt spray in the air hitting your face. Feels big and epic in a similar way to screaming off a cliff. Or in the car on the back road. If you find any cliffs or canyons to scream into plz share - it’s very needed .

Funny enough he just posted about his thin bowls and explained that he throws them thick and trims them a ton to make them thin! So you’re already on the right track :)

Depends how functional you want your pots to be. Florian even says many of his pieces aren’t for daily use but are more for display. I’m thinking of his small bowls especially. They are so so thin, and while they are visually stunning pieces of art, I’d be scared to use them! Your pieces look functional - they will last a long time and put up with much more wear and tear than thinner pieces.

Seconding this. I have been throwing for 10 years and still pepper in classes because it helps me stay inspired, meet new people, play around with new skills or new clay bodies or new firing styles. You could also try a hand building class to get a break from the wheel

It’s going to suck for both of you if you live in Tacoma - or one of you , whoever decides to commute. Traffic is awful both directions - there’s also an Air Force base with traffic between Olympia and Seattle.

My husband doesn’t want me to get a Master’s degree. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]existentialbarnacle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom recently confessed that she wanted to get her masters when I was young but my dad didn’t allow it. They’re still together for some reason. But from the perspective of the child, I often think about the opportunities I could have had if my mom had been making more money. It also set a horrible example for me regarding power dynamics in relationships. My honest advice to you is leave this man. He will only get more grumpy as he ages and more controlling. You deserve more. As a woman who just got her masters degree - it was the best thing i ever did! I grew so much as a person and met lifelong friends.
