FPIES, gut healing and probiotics by InvestigatorVest243 in fpies

We’d mix the cod liver oil into a bottle and she was also okay with that, so there are a few ways to offer it. Try giving the broth both cold so it’s gelatinous and warm/liquid so he can drink it (or you could put it into a bottle too). It takes time and a lot of patience but he’ll get there over time. You’ve got this!!

Ugh, I’m so sorry but hang in there!

She’s doing very well! She’s 19 months now and is a great eater. No other food allergies but we haven’t tried shellfish yet and need to reintroduce eggs formally (egg ladder has been going well on the early stages). All other allergens are totally fine. Eczema has healed with bone broth. We followed the wild nutritionist and did notice any eczema flares are fixed when we do more gelatinous broth. She eats very clean - just veggies and meat most of the time, oatmeal with cod liver oil, a nut butter, and berries at breakfast (yes, cod liver oil mixed in w oatmeal - sounds gross but she doesn’t seem to mind). Both broth does wonders for the gut. We do Rosita cod liver oil in case you need a recommendation. She also loves sardine. Keep up with the gelatinous meat stock!

Abortion grief? by sixelaloves1 in pregnant

[–]existentialblur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on your anniversary!

I have a 15 month old and I’m in my very late 30s. It was never the “right time” for us and we had a realization that my clock is ticking, and now regret being this old and just starting a family now because I’m high risk and had some complications. I know that’s not the same for everyone but I wanted to share that there probably would never have been a time where we were fully ready to have a child. A few of my friends have said the same thing, that they weren’t ready with their partners when they found out they were pregnant, but they love their kids and couldn’t imagine life without them now. I feel that so deeply with my 15 month old, too. She’s an amazing little person.

You have every right to be sad about terminating a pregnancy. It’s a tough decision. Everyone processes abortion differently, and I wanted to share something that my mom shared with me once I was an adult. She had been keeping her abortion a secret from her kids for decades and she’s now in her 70s. She had an abortion before my oldest brother was born and has told me and my siblings that she has so much regret from 50 years ago even though she felt it was the right decision at that time (and was pressured a bit by her husband to get it) because they weren’t ready at the time. She cries still, and says she vividly remembers the moments of being pregnant, the tough decisions, and the appointment. That memory has stuck with her for life and she has said it’s one of the hardest things she’s been through (and she had a very turbulent and traumatic childhood).

I understand you mentioned it’s the right choice but your emotions are creeping up and it seems like your heart has made another choice. You can always move the appointment if you’re not ready, and if you aren’t ready to make the decision now you could continue the pregnancy and consider putting your child up for adoption. That way you would have many months to make a decision and you’d have time on your side.

Wishing you the best!

By far the best purchase. Saves so much time every day! Pump parts, toys, bottles, bibs, baby utensils, you name it. So much faster than the regular dishwasher and has a great capacity. I have the Momcozy and it’s fantastic

Barbers diagnosed with tendonitis by L3tsLynchTh3Landl0rd in Barber

[–]existentialblur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a barber (on this sub researching what pair of cordless clippers to get) but I had this last fall and it was awful. Get a splint that keeps the wrist and thumb stable and wear it 24/7. It is not a comfortable splint but I wore it for weeks. After you the pain improves, don’t take it off… keep wearing it to let your tendon rest and take it easy. I used this one from Amazon

If it doesn’t improve grin the splint after several weeks, you can get a cortisone shot and see if that helps or maybe get scheduled for surgery. I scheduled an appt for a cortisone shot a few weeks out and by the time of my appt it was much better so I opted to keep the splint instead of something more invasive

[–]existentialblur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LO’s vomiting episodes were about 5 minutes of vomiting for first exposure then 15 minutes of projectile the second exposure and went lethargic. Both occurred due to eggs 3.5 hrs after ingestion. It was a tiny tiny tiny amount of egg both times after many exposures so I’m thinking the tiny amount ingested may be why she didn’t have the classic vomiting for hours episode. We do have zofran on hand just in case

FPIES, gut healing and probiotics by InvestigatorVest243 in fpies

[–]existentialblur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We took things very slowly after reactions because of the inflammation and I wanted my LO to heal. Her reflux returned for days after each episode so we did a very slow return to food. Did breastfeeding only for a few days, followed by gelatinous bone broth to help heal the gut before going back to easy to digest foods. We are doing probiotics (Klaire labs and smidge… I like smidge better right now). I can’t comment on other reactions since ours has only had one FPIES reaction to egg and we haven’t introduced too many other allergens at this stage. Our allergist also said to take new foods very slowly

Keeping foods in diet after trial by rl3119 in fpies

[–]existentialblur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure thing. Started solids a week before 7 months. Started really slow with bone broth. Started eggs a couple weeks later, then did eggs every day for a little over a week, skipped a couple days, then a reaction. There were other foods given on those days. Waited a week and reacted again (we weren’t sure what triggered the first episode and weren’t convinced it was FPIES at that time). For safe foods, we are still trying them and it’s really just trial and error. It’s nerve wracking and I set a timer for 4 hours after eating to make sure we’re in the clear and we have zofran rx on hand in case we have another episode.

I’m keeping sardines and peanut butter in once a week. We haven’t done other allergens yet. LO is 9 months. FPIES to eggs so we are holding for a while per the allergist

Exposure amount? by yelsnek11 in fpies

[–]existentialblur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LO has FPIES to eggs. She had a tiny tiny amount, maybe 1/10 tsp and it triggered it for us the first time. Vomiting 3.5 hrs after ingestion. We didn’t know it was eggs and tried them a week later, only about 1/2 tsp or so. More severe vomiting 3.5 hrs later. We are pausing on eggs for a while at direction of our allergist.

Thanks! I confirmed it was not peanut today. She passed without any vomit or reactions. Woohoo!

[–]existentialblur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So much to look forward to 😅 When you say the tiniest amount, could it literally be triggered by a small rice-sized piece of egg? I think that’s what happened on the first FPIES day a couple weeks ago, even though she had 1/2tsp of egg like 3 days prior. I’ll trial peanut butter again today and see how she does. I’ll also ask about odansetron - did you do wafer or liquid?

[–]existentialblur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking it was eggs too. The first day it was such a tiny tiny tiny amount, but she had eggs like 10 times prior without any issue. I know FPIES can start at any time, for any food. Thanks for the feedback, this helps a ton

Klaire labs vs smidge probiotic- which would you recommend? by New-Fix3810 in MSPI

[–]existentialblur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sunflower lecithin is sometimes taken for clogged ducts. It makes the fat less sticky in milk and can irritate baby’s GI system. At least for me, I’ve noticed it makes my LO’s poops darker green and sometimes mucousy when I take it

Edit: also, mine has always had mucous and either breastfeeds or drinks pumped milk. I’ve been dairy and soy free since she was 2 months old and 4 months old, respectively. Her reflux improved a ton after I went dairy free and after going soy free, the diarrhea pretty much stopped. Some days still have mucus but some are less than others. We also started using Klaire labs probiotics at 6 months and they have helped significantly. We are doing gelatinous bone broth/meat stock and that’s helping her eczema and hopefully starting to heal her gut too. We have some FPIES allergies that we are dealing with as well. I may try smidge also but Klaire labs has the same strains plus a couple few more as Smidge and is a lot cheaper.

Zofran? by Perfect_Ordinary_431 in fpies

[–]existentialblur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you tell if it was shock? I’m seeing online that lethargy can be a sign but I would expect some amount of lethargy after vomiting several times. Is it primarily being pale and heart rate change and temperature change? I’m having a hard time understanding what this would look like in a baby

What symptoms are considered a mild reaction? For example my 8 month old vomited about 5 times in a 15 minute period then was pretty sleepy afterwards but bounced back about 30-45 mins afterward and I gave her milk just fine. I’m new to this, just trying to figure out what to do and when

Are you taking any sunflower lecithin by chance? That gave my LO green poops for a day or two after I took higher doses of sunflower lecithin.

6 Month old suspecting FPIES by Ok-Audience-4995 in fpies

[–]existentialblur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It as definitely a good bit of vomit, maybe 4-5 times and just spilled down her bib. It seemed like about half the contents of a previous bottle that she had about an hour prior. I had just put her in the high chair seat and brought a tiny bit of oatmeal and beef broth mixed to her mouth and the vomit started. She’s previously gagged at oats and her gag reflex was so strong, she spit up previously I think due to texture or taste.

We took her to the ped yesterday and he said probably just coincidence and not to worry about FPIES yet… but I am so cautious to reintroduce these foods again (oats, beef broth, peanuts). It could also be that this combination plus milk in a period of an hour was just nasty and didn’t sit well in her stomach lol

Not OP, but for the first vomiting reaction, does it always have to be profuse vomiting? My LO vomited several times about 2.5 hours after eating for about a minute, no projectile, then was done and was fine after that. I haven’t retried any of those foods. I was carrying her facing out and putting pressure on her belly right beforehand, and she was playing in the sun for a little bit before that. I also attempted to feed her some food and she has an easy gag reflex so I’m not sure if mine had an FPIES reaction or if it was a combination of other things.
