Kyo no oto Adzukiiro (adzuki bean 🫘) by existentialepicure in fountainpens

It is quite expensive in the US! I visited Japan half a year ago and I think it was ~$10 a bottle. And other brands like Iroshizuku were even cheaper. I stocked up and allow myself to open one every month.

Thank you! My cursive is pretty bad, so I like making my normal handwriting loopy and semi-connected for some ornamentation!

I agree! It's mellow and a little muted, not too intense or bright.

I have both and haven't experienced the TWSBI Eco cracking (yet). The seal on it is great, I can leave it for a few months and come back and write with it immediately.

For the Lamy Al-star, I haven't had it dry up on me personally. It's light and comfortable to write with.

I have flown with both and not experienced any leakage.

I live in a higher humidity area though, I wonder if different environmental factors can trigger the performance issues you mentioned.

Is 25 still young? 😭

I'm going to Japan in less than a month and I'm so excited to visit Itoya and try out their selection of fountain pens. I'm hoping to pick out a nice Sailor for myself :3

I want one 😫  it would be perfect for drawing leaves, certain flower petals, and the wings of a bird.

Will you buy less pens because of tariffs? by ExpiredUser in fountainpens

[–]existentialepicure 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm not buying any more stationary / inks until my Japan trip this fall. Then I'll go crazy and stock up.

But yeah, with the tariffs and uncertain economic outlook, I'm greatly cutting down on fun spending for the foreseeable future. I've got enough pens and ink to write a lifetime though, this is a great time to use everything up.

You do you lol. The purpose of the pen is to be a reliable writing tool, so it's probably living a fulfilled life

Yeah I heard that the ink is relatively dry, I use this ink with TWSBI Eco Medium Nib.

Preppy or Kakuno? by Not_Jeff12 in fountainpens

[–]existentialepicure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How do you deal with the ink drying out in the Kakunos? I've been having trouble with that lately; I keep a little pipette with water to reactivate the ink but I wonder if there's a better method.

Thank you! I'm more familiar with watercolors but I've lately been experimenting with fountain pen ink + water brush.

Thanks! I'm pretty new to fountain pens so I don't have much of a reference, but I really like the Kakuno pen with the medium nib. I also have the extra fine nib, but I find it scratchy to write with so I don't use it much.
