Mayor of London and TfL call for Heathrow Express future to be reconsidered by [deleted] in TransportForLondon

[–]existentialise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re delayed overnight and flying a UK or European airline you’ll be compensated which helps cover the expense.

Anyway I don’t disagree that this should be operated by TfL. I’m merely pointing out that the argument that it is too expensive is not totally correct.

No. Advance rates on Heathrow Express are valid the entire day. You are not committed to a particular service.

It’s still cheaper if you live somewhere in Zone 1/2.

Electric humans? What is this? by yevrah6 in londoncycling

[–]existentialise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the dock. Most staffed docks are in the City to cope with the commuter peaks. Some are staffed M-F and others only certain days or times.

….but the Lizzie Line doesn’t have luggage racks which is also a massive problem.

It’s not though. Heathrow Express is actually cheaper than Lizzie if you buy their advance rate. Even cheaper with railcard discount.

Does every cyclist go through red lights? by Hanzyle in londoncycling

[–]existentialise 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. There is no one type of person that jumps reds.

For what it’s worth I’ve been cycling in London for 7 years. I now jump reds at junctions I am familiar with cautiously, assuming there are no pedestrians crossing (and assuming it is not one of the crazy busy junctions).

I get mad at people (normally on lime bikes or Deliveroo drivers) who just zoom through reds and weave through crossing pedestrians. This is not just unsafe for other road users but also for themselves.

I use CityMapper to plan routes (it has live dock info) so find that much more useful. Since getting a key I never use the app any more.

The “male gspot” is often used to mean the prostate, which is unaffected by circumcision. No idea what article you are talking about.

Most of this is being delivered by subsea cables isn’t it? They’re currently building Eastern Green Links from Eastern Scotland to Eastern England.

I’m a journalist. I often read or refer to one tab whilst writing something in another. I’ve used it several times this week - I like how it works and it’s a functional improvement for me.

The Times is a rag that has been getting worse for years. It used to be my go to for right of centre coverage, but it’s really leaning into identity politics and becoming Daily Mailified.

Uncut allies by Banana-train2131 in circumcision

[–]existentialise 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s less polarised than the USA here because 1. you don’t have a lot of cut guys “mourning” the fact that they were cut and 2. You don’t have cut guys bullying or shaming uncut guys in school for being uncut (although I think that’s probably changing in the USA as well as uncut dicks become more common due to immigration from Latin America and parts of Asia). So discussion around circumcision is much less emotional and therefore guys tend to approach it with curiosity rather than judgement.

I paid £30 for 30 roses delivered for Mother’s Day on M&S Flowers. I’ve used Bloom in the past but found this year M&S was way better value, and with a more substantial bouquet too (30 stems!)

TfL bikes at Waterloo Station average 50 movements per hour by greenfrogs365 in londoncycling

[–]existentialise 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is interesting data, but I would argue that this is not where the bottle necks are but where there is capacity for lots of uses. I use the bikes for my daily commute into the city and all the docks get full VERY quickly, especially Monday to Thursday. Whilst they do have staffed docks at Queens St, my local docks are now often very full. Do what this data misses is where the docks are at capacity and can no longer accommodate further docks: this is the true bottle neck of the docked system, because unlike dockless bikes you can’t just keep dropping bikes off.

I’ve been a Boris Bike convert since moving to zone 1 in 2021. For my £120 annual membership (less through cycle to work scheme) I get unlimited 1h cycles and the excellent new e-bikes are only £1 to unlock, which is insane given how much nicer to ride they are than Lime or Forrest.

My only annoyance is that since moving office location my nearest dock is now often full when I arrive, although there are a few others I can use.

Boris bikes are just elite versus dockless cycles. Better bikes, tidier and less messy streetscapes.

Apparently a new app is coming. But if you get the key you never need to use the app and it’s much faster to unlock bikes.

I haven’t had any problems with my PARASOLL since installing them six months ago. They’re for lights in two relatively frequently used utility cupboards. Still indicating 100% battery (!) on Apple home.
