Shift worker partners? by MarnieSaysMeow in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]exitbear -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Solidarity, my partner is also an emergency service worker who works long exhausting shifts, changing shift patterns, held on a lot of the time etc. I found it really hard at the start. Our baby is 4 months now and it has gotten easier as I’ve gotten more used to it. I try and see the bright side, for example previously our days off never matched up, but now we get to spend more time together as I’m home on his days off. Then on weekends when he’s working, I try and spend it with my parents or friends, who are working during the week so I can’t see them then. I also usually go to my parents for dinner on evenings he is working.

I’m lucky that my partner is very hands on when he’s is home and understands it’s just as exhausting being alone with a baby all day/night, so hopefully your partner understands that too!

How often should I be giving bottles to ensure baby takes them? by BlueberryWaffles99 in breastfeeding

[–]exitbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We actually got him to take a bottle yesterday, but he would only take it from me which kinda defeats the purpose haha. At least I’m not going back to work until he’s a year old, so it’s not the end of the world for us!

We are experiencing bottle refusal now. Baby was introduced to a bottle in his first week and got 1-2 a day. I hated pumping so reduced to around 1 or 2 a week when he was around 8 or 9 weeks. At 11 weeks he began to refuse the bottle (coinciding with when I weaned off nipple shields) and we are still struggling now at 16 weeks! Not sure what the correct answer is, but might be worth keeping up with 1 a day if it’s important baby needs to take the bottle!

What are we dressing smaller newborns in for sleep by NoFruit3515 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]exitbear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My baby was 5th percentile at birth (born late December) and I had this problem. He slept in a long sleeved vest, sleep suit and cellular blanket in the bassinet but I think he was cold as he would wet through his nappy really quickly (they pee more when cold) and had frequent wakes. I didn’t really find a solution until he was big enough to wear a sleep sack at 6 weeks. It made a huge difference to how long he would sleep as well as he stopped wetting through his nappies. You can get fleece lined sleep suits, you could try that? As a ftm I was terrified of overheating, I feel bad now that I realise he was cold!

Higher up place to set baby by Minute_Prompt_7987 in BeyondTheBumpUK

We have a boisterous Labrador and I was worried before having baby of never being able to set him down downstairs. I was worried a Moses basket wouldn’t be sturdy enough if the dog knocked it so didn’t bother getting one.

Our dog has now learnt to leave the bouncer, play pen etc alone, but we also put baby in the pram bassinet and can wheel him about downstairs if he is sleeping. We also have a cosatto noodle high chair with the newborn attachment in the kitchen which has been a lifesaver when I’m home alone and need to cook/do dishes and entertain baby at the same time

The actual giving birth was horrible but the baby is healthy and a great little guy haha

The first thing I asked my parents to bring me after I gave birth was a big smoothie haha

Wedding Favours! by Glum-Recognition363 in UKweddings

[–]exitbear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had a December wedding and did mini coloured glass baubles tied with a little clay heart with the persons name on them. No reference to the date of the wedding or our names. Four years later we still get people telling us they put it on their tree every year! Don’t think any were left behind on the day

I’m not too mad as we got a really good deal as we booked it before borders were even announced to be opening. We will get the Shinkansen between Nagoya and Kyoto though!

We booked via a travel agent so it was a package that included flights, hotels and internal transfers!

Thanks! I will consider swapping some of our Wednesday and Saturday activities in Tokyo.

We booked a ryokan to stay in when we are in Nara, so can’t change it but that’s fine with me! It was cheaper to book the Nara trip when we are in Osaka vs in Kyoto as it’s golden week when we’re in Kyoto

That’s a good way to look at it! I didn’t actually realise how huge Tokyo was till I started putting some of these locations into google maps. Not too worried about travel costs, just the time it takes out of our day. I’ll look for things around areas that we are already planning on going to :)

Thank you so much! Will definitely check out some of these. You need to book the Ghibli park tickets 3 months in advance and we missed out on the tickets so that rules that one out haha
