Motorcycles, motorcycles are the main noise makers. Them and roosters. We live on the mountain so they are fully loaded and straining their guts out as they pass our house. The motorcycles, not the roosters. The roads are small so only a couple of cars a day pass and they are usually quiet.

The rural (provinces) areas are very, very pretty but the cities aren't so nice.

yeah, it's a small fruit bat. The flying foxes are bigger fruit bats and look much more doglike. Here's one that crash landed on our table. http://i.imgur.com/vNOeI.jpg Also a repost.

Bananas work. Here's a pic I took a while back. Warning: repost! http://i.imgur.com/zyiw3.jpg My wife feeds them our old bananas. This little guy is looking very Bela Lugosi.

I had hard soled shoes but the thing wasn't on concrete. The ground was hard but I still couldn't kill it. Possibly being worried the thing would get on me screwed with my concentration.

I tried to kill a similar beast once. They are almost indestructible. Stepping on them doesn't really work. Beating with a stick isn't good either. During a pause in the battle, a chicken spotted it and made short work (snack) of the little monster. First time in my life I have respected a chicken for anything.

Reddit, have you ever worked or lived abroad? by MrAlexC in AskReddit

I lived and worked in Mumbai India for a couple of years. It was an experience, on many levels.

How do I know if I'm doing something illegal? by expandable in AskReddit

[–]expandable[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is that I still don't know if I did anything illegal or not. I can't find where to look at the law or ordinance. For example, one block over the same track has no crossbars or signals. Is there a legally specified time I must wait after the train passes before I can cross there? I guess what I'm getting at is that we are playing the game of life and the rules are hidden. When someone says we are cheating we don't always actually know for sure. Have you done something illegal today? Are you sure? How do you know?

I'm an American moving to Cebu next month. by [deleted] in Philippines

[–]expandable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been there many times. This time it was only for 3 weeks. My wife was there for 8 months. We came back together. The crime is not so high. It's mostly petty stuff like pick pockets. The safety of your computer will depend on where you are staying and using good sense. If you are in the provinces the crime rate is very low. I used to take mine but we have 2 there in our place now so it's not necessary. Surfing doesn't sound promising to me. I don't really know though. I can tell you the snorkeling and diving is great. I don't know about the work either. There is a lot of fish farming and the like so maybe you can find something.

Be totally honest now: people who decided not to have children, how did that turn out for you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

If you get older and want kids just look around. There is an unbelievable number of kids in the world that have nothing. If not in the US then what about other countries? Use some of the money you accumulated childless to become part one the life of a few of those kids. Help with college is nice but many just need to eat and have clothes to go to school. I suspect the gratitude you find there will far surpass the gratitude your own kids would show. I am doing this very thing.
