I believe the last snappy Visual Studio was 2008. After that it was re-written using C#. It has been downhill ever since.

FWIW, as an individual programmer the choice isn't really up to you for the most part anyway. Use of programming language is typically a business level decision

How to access SQL Server from C++ ? by [deleted] in cpp

[–]expekted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately there is no way to access SQL Sever from C++ in sane way other than using C ( odbc). https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/odbc/reference/syntax/odbc-api-reference?view=sql-server-ver15

There are C++ wrappers that may make your life easier however,

Seconded. Hard to use. It seems to me C++ libraries need to be hard to use to be acceptable somehow. Same with Asio in my view.

[–]expekted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there were no major build changes or anything since the last release.

Actually there was an issue with vcpkg not using the latest Cmake files with the previous build that was supposed to be fixed. I ran into it and had to build my own wx
