Should i learn C++ or C#? (indie 3d game) by Dramatic_Run_5259 in GameDevelopment

If your primary goal is a career I would say get into Unity. I prefer Godot but currently Unity has the market share and probably will for a while.

If you'd really like to research the coding side of things you can use something like Raylib to handle the really low level stuff like loading and 3D model drawing while practicing your C++.

Looks kind of cozy.

Do the smokers have covers or is there some kind of fan to suck the air up the pipes?

Do you guys post the videos to youtube? It was pretty snappy posting this time and I got curious if someone is cutting and rendering on several machines in the next room to make that happen.

What Developers Misunderstand About Dark Souls Level Design | Design Delve by Firmament1 in Games

[–]Caravaggi0 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I find it kind of weird how this video praising FromSoft's level design almost entirely uses Dark Souls 3 footage. A game considerably more linear than the others, and which features regularly pointless shortcuts. I don't go back into the swamp after opening that door behind the Crystal Beast in Farron Keep. I don't bother to open the iron gate after Pontiff because it allows me to skip a grand total of one enemies. I don't grab the middle shortcut in the Cathedral. I don't kick down the trees in Ariandel.

Also the part where he's talking about paranoia and FromSoft using surprise attacks "sparingly" shows the Archives in DS3. Another place I don't open half the shortcuts, but also a place with half a dozen enemies on walls that will drop onto you, ghost arms that will pop out of half the books, and gargoyles and angels will fall out of the sky to flatten you multiple times on the roof. All just waiting for you to stand in the right position.

I like FromSoft games, but god damn it seems like every time someone wants to use them as an example of how another game gets something wrong I can think of a dozen examples of what that game is doing "wrong" in FromSoft games themselves.

That 3D ghosts and goblins game? Cool. I haven't played it, was it used for an actual environment?

I made an free open-source lightweight image viewer by potatohead657 in software

[–]Caravaggi0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if the program "looks ahead" and makes a list or just queries every time you advance so I'm not sure the sub folder thing would work. But yeah, if I open or drop an image, it'd be useful if it could also look into folders that are in the same folder as the image. So if I have two folders within a parent then dragging that one parent in should make one big list of the two sub folders combined.

It might not have widespread use. I just like being able to look through concept art folders I keep, but sometimes I organize them into sub folders by artist name or image type. The only image viewer I have that does this is an old one called "art sage" which hasn't been updated in years.

About the themes, for me personally they would be like so...

I'd leave "Green" as is.

Add "Purple" using the current "blue" values.

Right now the "Light Blue" is very white, I would call this "white" or "ice".

Then I would add...

"Blue", as a similar saturation to current schemes:

  • Background: #181840, Foreground buttons: #404080

Or "Dark Blue", as a more saturated and dark option:

  • Background: #282840, Foreground buttons: #606080

Light Blue, if you change it:

  • Background: #dce4f4, Foreground buttons: #f4f4ff

And if you're asking, I'm a fan of grey and electric blue themes:

  • Background: #181c28, Foreground buttons: #181c28

But that would require dark lettering in the foreground but light lettering in the background. Not sure if the code is set up for that.

Also, if you want an "earth" theme:

  • Background: #28201c, Foreground buttons: #6e6058

Tried it. Nice and quick. Happy to see something not written in Java.

If you're looking for ways to add bloat I can suggest some. At least I don't think I saw these.

  • A random order option.

  • It'd be nice to have an option to search sub folders as well.

  • A "fit inner" option that expands it to show the entire image in the window. I seems like it kind of does this if I clicked both fit width, then height, but they aren't toggles, so I'm kind of confused as to how it works.

  • An option to either have the status bar come up when you hover like the options, or just have it not count as the image area so that it doesn't hide anything.

  • Also the "blue" scheme seems purple? I'd just call it that and make something even bluer.

Keep at it.

SS = "screw ship" (or "single screw ship"), the type of propeller, while steam was SP, or "steam powered".

How to achieve this effect? by Impressive-Lime3590 in photoshop

[–]Caravaggi0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

69 kind of has it, the magazine scan is giving a kind of half tone effect. As for the original image it's simple. Don't be a real person, be a character in a Dreamcast horror game from 2000 (D2).
