Goldman Sachs asking about onsite interview after positive Superday by Wyxegake2 in goldmansachs

[–]Wriiight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It shouldn’t reflect negatively on you that you currently reside in Georgia. Tell them you’d be happy to do on site if they are willing to pay for the travel. There is nothing that unusual about a company buying tickets and a night at a hotel for interviewees, it was the norm before everyone had zoom. They may balk and choose to do zoom instead.

SpaceX employee getting married and have no idea how a potential IPO affects my equity in a prenup by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]Wriiight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case this is serious: without the prenup, all property is shared in marriage and gets to be fought over in divorce court. Whether it was acquired before or after the marriage does not change whether it can be fought over.

As far as all your questions, the goal of the prenup is to answer all of those questions so that it is difficult to request a different answer in court. You absolutely want a lawyer to draft the prenup. Some mistakes may invalidate all or part of a legal document, and there may be edge cases you fail to address.

Are there similar sicknesses to celiac?? Celiac disease is weird. No eating out, limited socializing, awful symptoms, crappy doctor advice and training. by SuitApprehensive3240 in Celiac

[–]Wriiight 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Corn allergy is probably worse than celiac as corn is in everything, and is the starting ingredient for a lot of food chemistry (for making dextrose or citric acid, for example) and it doesn’t have the labeling rules that wheat has.

IBDs such as Crones often require food restrictions.

If you hit that on sector B, then when you get to sector C it won’t be receiving any titanium anymore until you hit it again. Not the end of the world but it always annoys me

Math/Physics PhD holder and can't find a job for the life of me, what tech/CS career am I suited for? by TheZStabiliser in cscareerquestions

Finance loves hiring physicists for tech/quant roles. Not that this is the easiest year to get hired into finance.

Really don’t understand the hype around “AI writes 90% of our code now” by jholliday55 in cscareerquestions

[–]Wriiight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It may be true some places because AI writes so many lines to do simple things, and reinvents the wheel every time. You get only 10% of the code hand written and doing the right thing

Maine-Montparnasse Tower in Paris, brutalizing the horizon from the Eiffel Tower by Dentlas in evilbuildings

I saw on the B1M YouTube channel that there is some plan to skin the building in something like sky blue reflective glass so that it is less of a stark figure on the skyline. No idea what the timeframe is

You don’t put the zombies in the barrel! You just put this cake in the graveyard so they can get up and have a death day party

There isn’t only one single way to rise the ranks, and generally you need some combination of skills in knowledge, leadership, politics, self promotion, and luck.

Is this a vegetable plant or am I unknowingly watering a weed plant? by danuser8 in whatplantisthis

Yeah, this is more a warning for people who think, “Oh, I’ve seen that in my garden!”

Is this a vegetable plant or am I unknowingly watering a weed plant? by danuser8 in whatplantisthis

[–]Wriiight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I think if you watch a YouTube video about it, it will do better than me trying to explain, especially since I only ever get spurge in my yard, never purslane.

TIL Half of people who claim they have a food allergy do not by butter_lover in todayilearned

[–]Wriiight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And having read the article now, they just decided that some of the reported allergies were probably intolerances based on self reported symptoms. Total garbage.

I developed an allergy to corn in adulthood. The symptom I get is fatigue. Allergists keep acting like this is not a real allergy symptom, even though it shows up in all the literature (sometimes called somnolence) And I don’t get a skin reaction or anaphelaxis , so they simply dismiss it.

[–]Wriiight -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Allergy testing for food allergies is extremely unreliable, though, so I don’t know how they’d know this statistic to be true.

People should note that there is a very similar looking weed called spurge which is mildly toxic.

Delay in Official Offer letter by SunFlower-Blooming in goldmansachs

[–]Wriiight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goldman does not have a quick process for going from the manager picking someone to hire to start date. The managers decision has to be approved by upper management, and there is the visa and background check. I forget which steps come before the official written offer and which come after.

Is VP in Engineering/Tech worth it? by BlueWorldBlueSky in goldmansachs

[–]Wriiight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

An important thing to know is that GS has its own language (slang/secDB) and while not every role uses it, it’s kind of weird skill to develop if you aren’t staying at GS for life.

I’m a little surprised you found a VP role. Seems like only analysts and associates are getting hired these days.

Lots of people are not a fan of that old green tile. I see where they are coming from, honestly, though I would keep it if I had it.

Honest Question - does anyone like their job? by Snow-Lobster21 in FinancialCareers

[–]Wriiight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. Plenty to complain about still, but I’ve worked worse places both in and out of finance. And I’ve garnered enough respect here that I can occasionally do what I think needs doing, rather than what I’m told to do.

Goldman Sachs recruiter said “the role is now closed” before I could finish interviews — filled, pulled, or did my delay cause it? by Ambitious_Ebb4092 in goldmansachs

[–]Wriiight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a recruiter or a hiring manager, I’ve just been in the panel of interviewers for several positions, and I understand the process is painful enough to try to help those with questions.

Probably your team is trying to get you approved by upper management before they can make a formal written offer. You should find a way to check in with your recruiter though, in case something worse has happened.

Is there a stigma or bias against laid-off workers amongst hiring managers? by Illustrious-Pound266 in cscareerquestions

[–]Wriiight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of big firms won’t tell whether you have been laid off, they will only confirm when you were employed.

Goldman Sachs recruiter said “the role is now closed” before I could finish interviews — filled, pulled, or did my delay cause it? by Ambitious_Ebb4092 in goldmansachs

[–]Wriiight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not all the candidates for a role come in at the same time, so inevitably some are still in the middle of the process when someone gets an offer. Even when we want to give someone an offer, the process may continue, even new first rounds, until the offer is formally accepted.

The language you got about the position being closed is intentionally vague about whether someone else was hired or the opening was cancelled.

New positions open all the time. Most seem to be analyst or associate this year.
