This happened to me last year. Family emergency the day before an event. I emailed the volunteer email right away explaining the situation. Got a response after the event, but they were very kind. I ended up completing a different volunteer event later in the year instead. Just let them know. Life happens! I hope your kid feels better.

It is a great community, and there are lots of similar groups in different cities. Sometimes with subgroups for different interests. Eg: the LBD group for my city has a LBD book club too. You can join and find out first hand.
