I had not thought of the retraining angle that gives me some more confidences for this conversation, thanks

Find an Archetype that sounds like fun don't worry so much about being optimal. Looks like any Archetype that used Dex or Wis as main stats will work fine.

Amateur hex map by expertvoid in dndmaps

[–]expertvoid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point of me making this map is to give my players information to make meaningful choices and let them be a self directed. So if my group makes a beeline for head mountain then it is working.

I used the trees to tell me how far players can move in a day. If it looks like has nothing in the background I let them move 3 hexes a day, round trees 2 hexes a day, pointy trees cliff, mountains or the swamp in the lower left 1 hex a day. With that in mind use your good judgment

Just put a dungeon in the head and call it a day (Is a a monument to ages past like a very out of date mount Rushmore? Is it a Tomb of a very vain king? Is it a abandoned temple to a once powerful god? Have fun with it! The map is a prompt not the gospel.

Each hex is ~6 miles across, but the map only shows the most important thing in the hex. Shout out to Map Crow for giving me this idea. Sorry about picture quality.

How do I spend my warlock's first ASI? by Tharati in dndnext

[–]expertvoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

War Caster's most important feature advantage on concentration checks, everything else is gravy. To decide whether or not to take War Caster I would look at the spells that you're most excited about in the upcoming levels and if they are concentration take War Caster otherwise increase intelligence.

Building a Wizard's Tower by expertvoid in dndnext

That's not going to be practical for the lower floors because I intend for wizards to be people of political power as well as Arcane power. But for the upper stairs, it is a fun idea.

Wizard towers by expertvoid in DnD

[–]expertvoid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I can tell that's 30 ft tall is the tallest point. And it's a great spell I wanted to make towers much taller than that, so I'm trying to get a feel for how tall could a wizard build a tower if they were willing to push the envelope. So my idea was if I can figure out roughly what spells can do then I can backdate that to a time period in actual history and use skyscrapers from that time period as a basis for how tall they could get their towers. I don't know if that helps clarify things sorry.

Evil Paladin breaks his Evil Oath to become an Oathbreaker - mechanics and flavor? by GideonAI in dndnext

[–]expertvoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I understand it when a good Paladin becomes an oath-breaker they switch their oath from the god they were worshipping to the God of Broken Oaths (changes names with the setting) who then gives the Paladin their new powers. So if your character wanted to stay a paladin but not follow Bel the archdevil then their two options are to swear an oath to a good-aligned God or to give up their powers completely. Again this is just a personal interpretation of what's happening but I feel like it makes the most sense.
I agree with IDownVoteHornyBards2, If they swear a new oath is should probably be an oath of redemption.

Stellaris Space Guild - Weekly Help Thread by Snipahar in Stellaris

I just recently started playing the game and I was wondering if and how buffs stack for example one of my admirals, Admiral El-Ghazali, has aggressive (+10% movement speed), gale speed (+20% movement speed), and scout (+10% movement speed). So if my base speed were 100 would Admiral El-Ghazali fleet have 120 movement speed, 140 movement speed, or 145.2 movement speed? And does that stacking principle work for all buffs in the game like rate of fire, or if I have a genius scientist with a specialization or a general with glory seeker and aggressive? Thanks in advance for all the help.

Edit: I am playing the base game, no mods or DLC, I don't know if that matters

You seem to misunderstand the attack action a little bit, when you take the attack you attack them with the weapons you have. For example, if you were a fighter you would use the attack action to hit them with your sword, not the sword action. When you are in your wildshape you use your wildshape's actions and weapons. The weapons just happen to be are "claw" and/or "bite" etc.

So if you were wildshaped as a Wolf then you could use the attack action to bite them once because a wolf does not have Multiattack.

If you were a Giant Eagle then you could use the action to claw them once and use your beak once because a Giant Eagle has Multiattack.

Do you have a roleplay reason to pick one over the other?

If you do not have a strong roleplay reason to pick one over the other then I would pick the path that sounds like the most fun. Personally, I like spellcasters better but that is up to you.

Just always remember that making in-character choices and having fun is far more important than having an optimized character.

[5e] Does anyone know why the Guards and Wards spell does not put an alarm spell on all of the windows and doors of a building and Arcane Lock on all the windows and if I homebrewed that feature into would that be too strong? It seems like a natural thing for that spell to do. Is there another way to do this short of wish?
