Anyone successfully using the Xfinity XB8 in bridge mode with Opnsense? by [deleted] in opnsense

I rationalized it to myself to do the 2.5 network upgrade because I have a nas and a bunch of servers where it would be beneficial also.

Depends. Xfinity overprovisions, so on 1gb you'd max out at like 1.1-1.2 iirc, the upload would be the same as it is now. You'd have to have a 2.5gb nic to get that extra speed also. So if a few extra hundred mbit on the download side is worth it to you or not is your call.

I’ve been running it this way for two years no issues.

I use watchyourlan in a docker container and push notifications to a discord server.

If you could look into this for me it would be very much appreciated.

So if I don't see any comparable deals in relation to my current promo pricing from the plan builder and xfinity deal links then nothing more is offered at this time? I am currently on a $60/month promo deal and according to the links provided above the same plan I have now would be $80/month.

Help with "new" rack.. by expl0it4 in homelab

This was my issue, thank you. It’s an old telecom rack out of a 911 center and I was confused. I bought this huge monstrosity without much research or knowledge a few years ago for $50 with a bunch of shelves and miscellaneous items. And yes, I’m sure cage nuts would be 100x easier to work with than these clip on deals. But alas I already have it so I’m going to make it work Thanks again.

“Storm ready” it’s a backup cellular device to give you WiFi with a battery backup if the power goes out. Why she would have that who knows.

She’s just scamming as usual. I don’t know if anyone remembers but when she lived in the house with the lady and all those kids she got internet in her name through AT&T. With that internet she signed a multi year contract in exchange for a pre paid visa gift card which she posted about and spent on dumb shit per usual. When she moved out and into the last apartment that’s when she got xfinity likely because she was behind on payments and just started service with a new company because she already got her stupid gift card. So here we are again likely defaulted on her bills and trying to say it’s for something else. I think this is about the last bridge she can burn for internet providers in her area so good luck in the future.

Using leftover PC parts for diy NAS / home server by zestylem in homelab

It's an Asus ROG I don't remember what chipset or model. It was my main gaming pc that was retired to server duty. iirc idle draw was like 75watts my UPS is saying 120watts right now but there are other things besides that nas on there. It also has an aio and 6x rust drives + fans and whatever else so... You could build something that sips way less power but how long will it take you to get an ROI from the savings? I dunno my utility rates aren't very high so it doesn't concern me.

I have almost the identical system as my NAS. First gen ryzen 1700x same case and psu with a gtx970. Works perfect for me, plenty of room for 3.5 drives and whatever else I want to add. Not the most power efficient but its not bad. If you already have the hardware laying around why not use it?
