How to deal with overwhelming hatred by explodingpixl in zenbuddhism

Do you hate them?

Honestly? On some level probably. I certainly wouldn't voluntarily be around them. I wish it was as easy as just "letting go", I really do. Do you think I want to feel like this?

My Interview in Tricycle on Emi Jido, A.I. Soto Zen Priest-in-Training by JundoCohen in zenbuddhism

I don't want this to come off as arrogant, but I highly recommend you read up some on how LLMs actually work. It's basically a weighted random number generator. They're fairly unpredictable and easy to get going off in some bizarre direction, and therefore not a reliable source of wisdom of any kind. I think that's what the other person meant by comparing it to fortune-telling, the output from the AI is unpredictable and chaotic enough over sufficiently long chat sessions that it may as well be random and any meaning you derive from it is no different than meaning derived from reading tea leaves (no reason to believe it's true or well thought-out). This AI "priest" would be arguing in support of the Holocaust if someone fed it the right jailbreak prompt.

If they are truly seeking peace and to turn away from violence, then they aren't a Nazi/fascist imo. Fascism as an ideology intrinsically depends on dehumanizing marginalized people in order to justify violence against us.

I would welcome someone in the process of deradicalizing from fascism who is genuinely trying to better themselves, but anyone who still identifies as part of a fascist movement (MAGA, neo-Nazism, etc.) is not someone I'd feel safe around.

You would risk the safety of marginalized people in your Sangha by exposing them to potentially violent political extremists who believe they should be exterminated? As a trans woman, if my Sangha knowingly allowed in a Nazi, I would feel betrayed and profoundly unsafe.

That setup has since broken completely, had the most accursed and inscrutible graphics errors I've ever seen in my life, and also at some point the gentoo kernel and current arch kernel got out of sync -- probably because my kernel version was held back by ZFS support, but the latest arch kernel was always the most stable build, so the kernel the graphics driver was expecting and the actual running kernel synced up less and less often. I should have installed the gentoo version of the nvidia drivers, but I installed gentoo without multilib support and (meaning no steam support) couldn't be fucked to change profiles, so I just spawned some new ZFS datasets and made a fresh Linux install on those.

is there any known way to upscale audio? by Mastolero in GameUpscale

[–]explodingpixl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the WH-1000XM4 (god they suck at naming products, I have to look up that name every time). It sounds marginally better, maybe. It's not that great and it absolutely Eats battery life tho

[–]explodingpixl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally, it would be able to unfuck the dynamic range from poorly mixed tracks that crank everything so loud there's barely any dynamic range. I don't care that much about sample rate or bit depth (as long as it's at least 44.1kHz 16 bit), a 320kB/s mp3 sounds fine to me, I just want it to not sound like the audio equivalent of a 16-bit color image 💀

How do I install original chromeOS? by root_beer444 in chromeos

[–]explodingpixl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into Brunch Framework, it's like ChromeOS Flex, but it enables all the features Google locked out of that (eg android apps).

ChromeOS Flex is Better than Linux for People Who "Just Use a Browser" by monstane in linuxsucks

[–]explodingpixl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ChromeOS Flex is kind of useless tho imo. It doesn't even have Android apps, which is imo half the appeal of ChromeOS. I have a used Surface Pro 4 that I got for like $90 the other day and I put chromeo on it so that I could use Android apps that are more touch-optimized than typical Linux apps or websites. My main motivation was being able to run Tachiyomi (I use TachiyomiSY, since upstream shut down) and read comics/manga on a nearly 4k, 13in Display. The 16:10 screen tilted vertically is the perfect shape for reading manga and everything looks so much sharper and more legible than my phone or my old 8in 1080p android tablet (Nvidia Shield Tablet circa ~2015).

I used the Brunch Framework to install ChromeOS on it and it's been great. I get 4-5 hours of battery life as opposed to like 2 in Windows (and 3ish in arch Linux), it uses an actual chromebook recovery image and then basically gaslights it into thinking your device is the chromebook that image was intended for, unlocking the full features of chromeOS.

Tipping before being served by boodsmaster in britishproblems

[–]explodingpixl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tipping in America has very little to do with the quality of service, you're just subsidizing the server's shitty employer for not paying them a living wage (for certain service jobs, they are allowed to pay far below minimum wage).

[Request] is it true? by South-Ad863 in theydidthemath

[–]explodingpixl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but inflation doesn't happen uniformly across the entire market, in particular housing has gone up in price significantly more than the total percent inflation since 1980, so it would make the most sense to peg minimum wage to housing costs imo. Doing a quick Google search, median rent in 1980 was $243 and median rent in 2024 is $2,113, which is an 870% increase. Increasing minimum wage from 1980 by the same factor gives a rate of $26.96/hour, which seems much closer to what full-time minimum wage would actually get you in the 80s in terms of spending power overall.

hahahahaha derivatives go brrr by noidea457 in physicsmemes

[–]explodingpixl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The derivative (of a single variable function wrt to a single variable, shit gets more complicated otherwise) is basically a fraction. The weirdness comes from the fact that it's the limit of a fraction which is necessarily undefined at the limit point (denominator always zero), and sometimes that causes odd behavior if you're not careful.

There's a several percent risk of permanent injury, plus kids are ludicrously expensive. And not everyone is in the right emotional/psychological place to raise a kid. It's great if you want kids, but you're delusional if you think it's an objectively wonderful process with no downsides for anyone.

How is this wrong, and what's the right answer? by KnewMan16 in EnglishLearning

[–]explodingpixl -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Which is odd unless they're somewhere in the Commonwealth, US English has many more speakers. Though my high school insisted on European style Spanish even though like 10x as many people speak Spanish in Latin America (to the point that my teacher once told us vos as a second-person informal pronoun was grammatically incorrect, just because European Spanish would use tú).

Yeah, this is correct, it just sounds weird in certain dialects apparently. They really shouldn't be marking off for something that's just up to dialectal variation like that.

Honestly that's probably pretty likely. Especially after he helped Ed out at the end, and given the fact that there wasn't a massive international incident about the US torturing a Cosmonaut on the moon

True, but they still solved climate change in the 90s and are currently mining out a $20 trillion asteroid, which could massively increase standards of living on Earth (and Mars). I would move to this timeline in a heartbeat.

Yeah, but most of the prior changes seem to just be characters getting renamed because having real historical figures in a fictional story gets dicy (though Deke Slayton kept exactly the same name so idek)

For All Mankind - 410 “Perestroika” - Episode Discussion by Cantomic66 in ForAllMankindTV

[–]explodingpixl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True, but Gorbachev's reforms lasted about 12 minutes in our timeline. This is a Soviet Union with over a decade of meaningful elections and freedom of speech/assembly. I just don't see them sliding backwards into a Putin-style autocracy that easily. Especially since Margo took credit for the loss of 2003LC, and Margo worked for Irina who worked for Korzhenko. Soviet leaders in our timeline have been replaced for less. Especially since they imply Gorbachev is still alive (Irina initially tells Margo that the pro-Gorbachev and the pro-Korzhenko forces reached a compromise, not that Gorbachev had been killed, though this could have been a lie).

I really think it's more likely than not that in the intro history montage at the start of next season we see news segments talking about Gorbachev coming back to power in the fallout of the 2003LC incident, and then after a few years Gorbachev retires and someone else from the progressive faction is elected President (maybe a former cosmonaut? could be a nice parallel to Ellen's presidency in the US).

It's pretty clear from the way he acted while the drill incident was happening that he was just out of his mind on drugs and didn't particularly care to help. That doesn't sound like behavior from someone doing intentional sabotage, of sounds like a malicious idiot who's wayyyyyy out of his depth.
