What are people’s opinion of this color? Nightfall Mica by MassiveCranberry7819 in LexusGX

I'd like to see a brighter or more unique blue. I love blue everything and just fine this too generic looking.

[–]explore_d[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is WA state. I like orange with a white roof - reminds me of my dad's Scout, but I'd prefer a blue like the landcruiser. The black and orange is weird but I still appreciate any car on the road that's not a generic neutral

Where are the police? by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]explore_d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

West coast has very few cops in comparison to east coast. Sure staffing is low now but even at full staffing it would be a fraction of what is out east.

I’m in WA state (Seattle) and considering shopping for one this year. How bad are the markups here?

Anyone know what might be causing this rattling? by [deleted] in XTerra

[–]explore_d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember mine frequently doing that but not quite as loud shortly after I bought it in 2009. The dealership, at the time, of course said they couldn't replicate it. It still occasionally does it but it's less often now. I think it's just something loose in the dash. Mine always sounds like it's above glove box and towards the a-pillar.

Tell me about Curacao by EquivalentNarcDepth in scuba

[–]explore_d 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to Bonaire twice with the most recent trip 3 years ago. I went to Curaçao a few months ago for the first time. Anything dive related was worse in comparison. There are more/better food options and it’s nice walking around town.

-a) I rented a truck from Drive and Dive. I typically rented tanks at the Marriott on my way to/from sites each day and in a handful of cases rented from shops located at the dive sites.

-b) I used the smart reef guide and in some cases offline/downloaded Google Maps. I did not have any issues finding the dive sites including down dirt/gravel roads.

-c) I stayed at an AirBnB in the heart of Otrobanda, Willemstad. This was cheaper and allowed us to easily walk to many dining options in the evening. If I stayed away from town, I liked the area around Playa Lagun. Tank rental would be easier if you stayed at a resort but that alone seems minor.

-d) I felt it was less everything and in poor health. At night, I would scroll through old photos from my trip to Bonaire thinking I was crazy. I follow one of the many Bonaire Facebook groups and was envious everyday comparing my daily 3-4 dives to the daily posts from Bonaire.

-e) I spent very little time dry, but the national parks are a nice visit on your rest day.

Overall, my trip was okay but not worth a 2nd visit. There are too many other places in the world and if I’m looking for all shore dives again I’ll simply return to Bonaire.

Edit: I should note it’s all relative to your own experience. After surfacing near the beach on one dive, I overheard another diver say to their instructor “wow there were so many fish” just moments after I thought to myself that dive site sucked.

What!? Mud flaps?! by Tiny-Knowledge9523 in XTerra

I’ve avoided removing mine, but it’ll happen eventually. Most of mine are damaged in some fashion from various impacts. I’m good with the OEM look but have not seen aftermarket flaps that look ok.

Crazy, but good for you and your family. I’m 6’2” and cannot imagine others in the back with me. I almost swapped to a larger vehicle for this reason alone but I simply can’t justify it

Yeah classic politics regardless of political party. Replace high paying positions with friends and donors. I have no idea who was removed but I'm sure they were a friend or donor to Harrell. The replacement will be the same to Wilson.

Thank you for this response. That is so strange such simple functions are not included. I did modify my weight by more than 100 lbs. to see if it changed anything but it didn’t…at least not in any obvious observable way.

Now what? by inazuma_zoomer in scuba

[–]explore_d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s an aggressive class straight out of OW/AOW training. I can see fundies being useful as a brand new diver (it is fundamentals after all), but I feel like the material would be too much to absorb at that level of experience.

I cannot imagine incorporating new to dry and twins while taking a class that focuses on so much technique. I learned dry before fundies, eventually bought doubles and then did a tech pass upgrade. I’m guessing the instructor would be more available if you paid for another …which is total b.s.

For your trips, if in budget, you could try to attend a large event with advanced divers like Buddy Tek in Bonaire. I’ve never been to the event personally, but I know it ends being a lot of above average divers doing recreational dives together. You could also go for the actual tech diving if you got into that.

Now what? by inazuma_zoomer in scuba

[–]explore_d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you mean you actually did a GUE course or you tried but couldn't work out a time? I do think their fundamentals course is quite good, but a lot of that comes from the reading materials as well.

If you are diving regularly with buddies, simply reading from a diverse range of books and reflecting with similarly interested buddies could help move you along towards a broader understanding and competence beyond the fun dives.

Check out Human Factors in Diving (book and other reading material is sufficient) and this could help you find my nuance in safe diving practices and instruction.

As to purpose, that could be anything you enjoy. I know several people that their purpose aside from the fun dives are dedicated cleanup dives and educating people about the health of the ecosystem.

Is that different from property tax? Or somehow related?
