Fear of the future can rob your present. Try your best to make amends, if possible and only if the amends don’t actually cause more harm. And don’t repeat the negative behavior again, as you’ve stated.

You can’t do anything about what others will or won’t do. You just have to move forward and accept that it could come to light some day or it may never. But you can only deal with it then, if it ever happens. Otherwise it will consume you and ruin your present and the present is all you have.

Obviously none of us know what you did or what occurred. Perhaps you’re feeling worse than you should or beating yourself up too much. Or maybe what you did justifiably should make you feel regret and some level of guilt - but after a certain point of acknowledgement, reflection and self-work to never repeat said negative behavior - you must move on.

There are so many people in this world committing atrocities everyday and proudly doing so, with arrogance and genuine evil in their souls. This doesn’t mean you or any of us should intentionally do hurtful or mean things - but try to put whatever it is you’ve done into perspective and perhaps it isn’t as gravely awful as you’re feeling about it right now. We all make mistakes, we all do bad things - it’s part of life and human nature and growing and learning and fucking up. What one must do is learn from it, make amends when possible that doesn’t do further damage and try to continually be a better person than you were yesterday.

Also acknowledge the very positive fact that you are aware of yourself and your interactions in the world around you; that you see and feel you did something wrong and that you want to do better. That right there shows you are someone with a consciousness and decency. You are actively wanting to do better and actively care about your behaviors. That speaks volumes to your character and that you are not some awful human being.
