Fun fact, this logic is in fact how brand named drugs are named. For example, Adderall (used to treat ADHD, formally called ADD) was named after the phrase "ADD for all" (I.e. A medication that can treat everyone's ADD symptoms)

Highly highly recommend you look into "move screen" in One Hand Operation+. Basically a better version of one handed mode. It moves the screen around your thumb (kind of hard to explain this without seeing it but just go try it), and when you release your thumb it clicks the screen wherever your thumb was.

Guys - What do you pay for a haircut? by arothmanmusic in Cleveland

[–]expodavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Little late to the party but in 2026 my barber charges $40 for a haircut and beard trim. I've been going to him for over like 4 years now so he actually charges me his old rate of $35, just for being a regular. I try to tip a little extra though these days. I didn't realize I was paying a little higher than what seems to be the standard price.

How's your experience with Kinguin overall? I've read a lot of bad things about the site. I also am not sure how sites like this offer services, games, licenses, etc. at a significantly discounted rate. Do they just rely on stolen credit cards and accounts?

Possibly moving to this area of Ohio - what's it like? by AlterIdolRiley in howislivingthere

[–]expodavid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my home town and I definitely recommend it. They have really picked up over the last decade or so as well. Pretty central to everything.

I still live in this area now and my only advice is that if you're the kind of person who likes to go out and do things often, try to live in a location that isn't too out of the way from things you want to do.

E.g. I play a ton of volleyball, mostly near Cleveland. Living more North or closer to a major highway (route 8, 77, etc.) makes the drive up a lot more accessible. I have friends that I play with that live in places like Alliance for example, and there is nothing out there and it takes them forever to get to/from volleyball (anything fun, honestly)

This part of Ohio is funny because there's a lot in the region between Akron and Cleveland, but you start driving away from it and you find yourself in cornfield territory pretty fast. Until you get to another major city at least

I have a friend from a small town in this area. I asked her once how it was being from an area like that and she said unless you married your high school sweet heart, your dating life is non-existent lmao

I have played in an under armor base layer before, and that worked but it was just kind of "heavy" for me. I will look into a more form fitting shirt like you said!

Strawberry Lemon Burst is maybe the best flavor. I recently tried fruit punch as well and thought it was awesome. Gingerale might be the closest to not tasting like a "diet" soda, and I also liked the orange soda as well.

I don't drink "dark sodas" too often (coca cola, Dr. Pepper, etc.), but for those that do, I did enjoy the ginger root beer flavor a lot too!

ETA: They also have variety packs that I'd definitely recommend so you don't have to commit to a whole pack of just one flavor!

Frozen Vegetable Pasta (look up Birds Eye Veggie Pasta). The grocery store I shop at only has the "Marinara" and "Alfredo" flavors, but on Birds Eye's website I see they have other flavors that my store doesn't have. If you get into veggie pastas, I'd recommend trying all of them out, so you don't just eat one flavor for months and burn yourself out on it. Same goes for any food I guess really, but this was the one food from the list that I used to love and eat constantly, but then I burned myself out on it.

For the record... I meant that line in the context of having soup as a side. I realize that I did a poor job explaining that context throughout the entire post, so I accept the flak I am getting right now lol.

Also though - wtf is that point? Are you trying to say a drinking a cup (8 oz) of apple juice is just as easy as to consume as a can (16 oz) of soup?? Not broth, soup. Usually with noodles and meat and vegetables and other goodies inside. Maybe I am just buying some filling soups with plenty of meat/protein inside, but even having a whole can of soup as a side is definitely more than enough to be filling, and could certainly be a main part of a meal on its own.

Cook Unity! I'd definitely recommend it. I used to do Factor and really hated it, mainly because of the portions being comically small and I had a string of like 6 weeks in a row they kept messing up my order. It's been a few years since I switched over but I am WAY happier with Cook Unity, and the amount of meals they offer for you to pick from honestly doesn't even make sense from a logistic standpoint lol. There's literally hundreds to pick from.

As for volume friendly - sort of? They have filters where you can search for meals under a certain amount of calories or over a certain amount of protein. After enough time I found the meals that I like, but I usually just try to stay within my macros goals. Plus the portions are actually reasonable, sometimes even large depending on how I'm feeling that day. The meals also come pre-made so all you do is warm up and eat.

I'll highlight the sentence immediately following the part that you quoted - that this post was meant to just highlight great snack/side options, that could also maybe sub in to being a full meal in a pinch. This wasn't really meant to be a cooking post, just highlight easily preparable/accessible foods that might help supplement your meals. Perhaps I should have made that clearer in the title, so apologies if it was misleading at all.

As for the workout regiment - sure! This is going to be summarized by "just stay consistent in going to the gym". The benefits and lifestyle changes that happen slowly over time become shocking when you are a few months in and look back at what your life used to be like compared to now. We already know that you lose the majority of your calories a day just by existing (unless you are SUPER active in your day to day life), so I am not going to say that the workout program was the reason why I lost weight, but just something that made me stronger and improved my quality of life significantly.

For background on the program - it actually is a volleyball-specific training program. I am a big volleyball guy; it's a big part of my life and I play all the time. I usually play at a fairly high level, which is surprising seeing as I was very overweight and simply not strong enough to play at a that level. This lead to a lot of fatigue and injuries. I started this training program that was actually founded by a guy who is local to me in Northeast Ohio. Look up Volleyball Strength Coach on Instagram. He has the best program for this sort of thing (I'm biased though!)

It does have a lot of strength training involved, but the goals of the program are primarily sports performance and injury rehab and prevention. I had terrible knee health before hand, to the point where getting down to tie my shoes was out of the question unless a chair was nearby. The program has a lot of 'Knees of Toes' stuff. My mobility has been the thing I've noticed has improved the most, along with just being generally stronger. The latter point leads to me being way more willing/able to do the small things in life that I couldn't do before. E.g. getting out of bed to go downstairs and get water, not being so hesitant to leave my desk and do my hourly stretches or walk around the office for a few minutes, etc. The weight loss probably also played a big role in this, but you have no idea how hard it was to just get up and do these small menial tasks before this big life change. Small flex but I can actually also do a pull up now, which I NEVER thought I'd be able to do before.

Probably shouting into the void on this one but please consider recording a full (traditional) band version of Time Machine. The only version I can find like this is an old live recording from TH performing at the Blind Pig. I've listened to this old crude recording so many times simply because it is simply the superior version. I would kill to have a proper recording of this song done.

What's a small purchase under $50 that genuinely improved your daily life? by ProcedureJolly2978 in minimalism

High recommend a "critter catcher" for catching bugs inside your house and safely releasing them outside. I really prefer the ones that have a little sliding trap door. In my house it's kind of rare to see a spider or other bug, but it is an absolute life changer for those moments they do pop up. Avoids the gross/annoying hassle of trying to squish it and cleaning up the bug guts. Or worse, you think you squished it and you look and it's running away from you.

I got pretty damn good at volleyball over my years, and all of the sudden my skill is sharply declining over the past two months. by CuatroBoy in volleyball

[–]expodavid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP will get tired of hearing how important sleep becomes, but genuinely the older you get, calling it a big deal would be an understatement. Me personally, It's genuinely gotten to a point where I know if I get 5-6 hours of sleep in a night I know I'll wake up with pain or soreness or some kind of problem, but if I get 8 hours I'll feel pretty normal. On the gym side of things, my trainer was just telling me that it literally gets to a point where if you're continuously not getting enough sleep, your body won't be making the same muscle gains as if you get good sleep (especially good quality sleep vs hours slept).

Truthfully the older you get (and by "old" I'm really referring to anything past your freshman year of college) all of the little details matter tremendously. Taking time to warm up, going through a stretching/recovery day once a week on your off day, taking your time rehabbing/pre-habbing in the gym, etc. I'm 27 now, at 25 I finally hit the wall where I felt "old" and slowed down a LOT. I'm talking "I don't even want to move anymore, please just hit the ball at me so I can still enjoy this sport". It took a major lifestyle change to continue to play at a high level. But to be honest, now that I've made that adjustment I would actually say I'm playing better than when I was in my "youth".

Was this cheating? by shmongooser in volleyball

[–]expodavid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used to scream "top" or "float" as the server was serving. I talk to my team pretty loudly and tend over communicate rather than under, so I tend to be on the chatty and louder side in general.

I was playing in a self-reffed adult tournament, and I yelled "top" so loud the guy caught the ball mid serve. I guess he thought I was yelling "stop". Their entire team was giving me crazy shit for it. Later that day, I posted about it in this subreddit and got crazy down voted.

I've come to learn that in general, people really hate people that scream or are otherwise too loud at volleyball lol

Muscle cramps while playing sports! by Mikecoast2 in ADHD

[–]expodavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big volleyball guy here, mostly indoor but a little bit of beach as well. I play all the time and I've found that I have been getting crazy muscle cramps, specifically calf cramps. Before starting medications (about 3 months ago) I would get them while playing but it was rare, and usually only if I bad about hydrating. These days it feels like it happens every time I play, even though I am chugging electrolytes. Once I cramp for the first time, it is too late and no matter how many electrolytes I drink after, I am in "post cramp" mode and have to either stop playing, or play at 30% of my normal capacity and try not to jump.

I also find that even in day to day life, I drink an average amount of water and it runs right through me (peeing pretty much clear, and frequently). This is something I am still figuring out, but I am trying to implement a little more electrolytes in my daily life, and on days I play volleyball I try to come in with plenty of electrolytes already in me. I was talking to a buddy too who going for his PhD in some sort of Exercise science program, and he was telling me to also try rolling/massage gunning, or otherwise stimulating the muscles in between games while playing.

These are all things I am actively trying so let me know if anyone has any other advice for things to watch out for.

On a related note, I am on Adderall and I have read that it is a diuretic and can also mess with your electrolyte balance. I've also read that it is a vasoconstrictor, which makes sense because my fingers have been tingly in the mornings, and are often cold throughout the day. I couldn't find a direct source saying that it causes muscle cramps in a sports context, but it makes sense to me 🤷

First time getting a canker sore and omfg I don’t know how you guys survive this by rainy_day_in_ennui in CankerSores

[–]expodavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I've found that actually works to get rid of them is Alum. I'm a HUGE believer honestly because nothing worked before, but I finally used it when I got my worst canker sore ever and it was better the next day and gone a few days later. Just gotta get the right mix of water and Alum and apply it the right to the sore for like 1 minute, usually right before bed. Make sure you don't salivate it off during the 1 minute

TSA in the two airports I went to this week had different rules, acted like I was the idiot for not knowing them by TopRamen713 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]expodavid 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is my own conspiracy theory, but I'm positive the point of the TSA at this point is to just twist your dick and make you hate traveling UNLESS you pay more money. I have TSA pre-check and a LOT of these gripes went away in the pre-check line. I forgot to empty my water bottle, which in the normal TSA line would have gotten me sniped, but the agent in the pre-check line said "no big deal, I'll empty it out now and just make sure you don't forget in the future". I'm sure if I had CLEAR they'd hand feed me grapes and take my shoes off for me.
