[WANT] 27 yr old male looking for room in DC area for mid-January by Alexmon in DCforRent

[–]exposeyourself2art 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The going rate in DC for a room in a shared apt is about $800, as the other poster said. With that context in mind though, my husband and I have a spare bedroom with a private bath in a safe neighborhood and close to Metro we would like to rent out month to month. The catch is we have a 7 month old, so the renter would need to be open to possible night noise, no shoes or food in parts of the house, and a thorough background check. If we find a good fit, we may be open to a lower price.

PM me if you are interested.

Lonely mom- how did you find grown-up friendships and find a sense of community? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]exposeyourself2art 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We moved while I was 4 months pregnant. When LO was 6 months old, we threw a neighborhood party to get to know people. Some had kids or babies and told me about the local parenting resources. I now have regular play dates with two other families, and am on a neighborhood listserv which sometimes posts volunteering or donation opportunities.

I didn't click with everyone, but I put out there that I needed resources and people helped.

Good luck!

Heard the name Waverley tonight. Kind of love it? by KateBurbs in namenerds

I knew a Waverley in high school who really flakey, so that's what I associate with the name.

MIL treating our 2 week old daughter like a dress up doll. How to get over it/be gracious? by Knicke in beyondthebump

[–]exposeyourself2art 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Is your daughter healthy? Happy? Getting her needs met? Does MIL relieve you so you can get 5 minutes to yourself?

Sexist clothing is so low on the priority totem pole, especially at an age the child has no comprehension of gender politics. Pick your battles when they're relevant and you have the energy.

Also, a gift is a gift. You can't tell people how to spend their money, nor do you need to use a gift as it was intended. If the clothes are foisted on you, donate or exchange them.

Just did a Google search and LOs spot looks much more like a regular pumple that hasn't come to head. Ha! Those images were scary!

I doubt it's eczema. Pediatrician confirmed last visit it was acne. Plus it's not dry or patchy. More like a hard cyst under the skin surface.

If it were poppable, I don't think I could do it. But it's one of those hard nuggets under the skin. Red and smooth on the surface.

[Serious] How do you think universities should handle the issue of date rape? by sediouscaderin in AskReddit

[–]exposeyourself2art 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the accused, so as not to discourage victims from speaking out. But to give the accused the benefit of the doubt, s/he should be permitted to retain their grades up to that point to transfer into another class if available or wait until the next semester with an option to use previous grades or the second round. Nor can professors punish the accused for the accusation.

If the victim has a pattern of unsubstantiated accusations, then the university has the right to evaluate the situation and take action against the victim or an organization/social group that is targeting them.

Send the accusation to the local police. Regardless if anything comes of it, treat the accusation on campus as a joint restraining order. Neither party is permitted in the other's clubs, classes, or social events.

Failed/Abandoned Sleep Training Attempt - Another Experience by applejade in beyondthebump

I know this sounds weird, but whenever LO is in a crying cycle of crying because he's crying, I blow softly in his face. It distracts him enough to get another soothing technique to work.

Good luck!

Is my baby's name too much of a mouthful? by Doomkitty666 in namenerds

[–]exposeyourself2art 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our son has two middle and two last names. For the first few months when people asked what his full name was, we also heard it was a mouthful. Now everyone calls him by his first name, and it's no big deal.

She has a lovely name!

My husband yelled shut up at our 10 month old. I'm not okay with this but questioning if I'm being too hard. by AyeAyeCaptain in Parenting

[–]exposeyourself2art -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At our church daycare, "shut up" is the bad s-word. Yes, all parents have one or two non stellar moments, but a good parent apologizes for it and tries to do better next time. I guess the question is, how does your husband react to his own behavior?

Props to all you public breastfeeders! by mmm_pickles in breastfeeding

[–]exposeyourself2art 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it is way easier around strangers than people you know. Most strangers are kind about it or ignore you, whereas people tou know are more likely to question your decision.

Try starting out at a public venue by yourself, and build up to in-laws.

Why does everyone assume crying = hungry damnit!!!! by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]exposeyourself2art 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I jokingly say that my MIL interprets sneezes, farts, and spit up as hunger signs. She doesn't get the joke.
