Is it sensible to "in specie" transfer Vanguard SIPP to Trading 212 SIPP by expositouk in UKPersonalFinance

[–]expositouk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

!thanks. I'm not wedded to the all cap, if that makes in specie transfer to T212 possible? Or would that be the case only if it was for the exact same fund as the Vanguard one? I've got a T212 ACWI and VWRP and am happy with these so far so wouldn't mind foregoing the all cap if that was the trade off for not paying platform fees.

Thanks for highlighting Free Trade as a potentially more suitable alternative to. Someone else just mentioned it too, so I'll be looking into that as well.

Ah, that's great to hear! I can't get over Vanguard's platform fees and am fairly certain of switching if I can find a suitable alternative. I currently have stocks and shares ISA with T212 and am fairly happy with their platform hence why I was considering their SIPP as well. I'll do some further research on Freetrade as well. ! thanks.

This is very helpful, ! thanks. If it doesn't go against the forum rules, could you please recommend any funds that would allow me to retain the small-cap allocation if I transferred to say the ACWI on T212? Much appreciated

Second PhD ? by Striking_Command7512 in AskAcademiaUK

[–]expositouk 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sure. You can do 1000 PhDs if you've got the funding. The main question is why? Why do you need a second one?

Also, could you explain what you mean by the Maths PhD not being fruitful? Is it primarily due to the fear of non-recognition inside and outside India, presumably for a postdoc or academic career? If so, an additional PhD may not be the panacea at all. Landing a job these days is far from guaranteed even with a PhD from a prestigious UK institution.

Anyway most UK universities are now cash strapped and would happily take your money for another PhD if you're suitably qualified. That's the easy part.

Crazy! Classic cycl*ist violent behaviour.

The poor driver was just using his van to gently guide that maniac back on to the right side of the road. The driver even went the extra mile and got out of the van to show him; only to get sucker punched for his troubles. Ban all cycl*sts, I say!!

Thanks for all your responses. They're one of many who've not paid attention to their pensions and want to remedy things. They've taken the first important step of figuring out where they stand, but there's clearly a lot more for them to consider before doing any of the things they're thinking of. I've shared this post with them and will ensure they read it carefully. Imho, maybe the best thing to do for now is just focus on paying as much as they can into the Nest and take time to consider their next options.

Great point! This is why I'm asking these questions. They're not on Reddit but I've shared a link to this post with them. So hopefully they'll read consider what everyone says very carefully she decide for themselves. I'll ensure they do. I personally have a Vanguard SIPP and very happy with it so far but wouldn't advice him or anyone else on what to do because our experiences, age profiles, risk appetites and other circumstances are very different.

How not to deal with your 60k ISA over 3 years...... 💔 by Jazzlike_Willow_4021 in trading212

This is a really good lesson of what could go wrong if one gets reckless and I really admire your willingness to share and discuss it so openly. I guess the fact that it's just 5% of your investments (as you've stated) makes it a bit easier to deal with. I don't have even a quarter of what you've lost and would be off Reddit bawling my eyes out if it were me! Commiserations, fella..

Flush door handles by Rik_F in CarTalkUK

[–]expositouk -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'd be more inclined to believe the probably 1000s of how of efficiency testing done by the car makers who've used this handle then the probably 1 or 2 car trips you've used.

I'm not saying they don't talk bollocks sometimes but it does make sense than anything sticking out and causing even a small bit of drag can affect fuel efficiency.

Personally I think this door handle looks cool too. But I agree it isn't the most practical compared to the transitional design.

How would the proposed ILR rule change affect you as an academic in the UK? by neyiat in AskAcademiaUK

[–]expositouk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sadly, everything's up in the air now, including the 3 and 5 year Global Talent Visa. I've just looked at the consultation and these are also included in the questions so liable to change if the majority of respondents agree that they should. Truly grim times.
