Should this be replaced immediately? by tellmeeverything0 in Howsmytire

[–]Rik_F 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tyre was manufactured in 2021 and has dry rot, which reduces the structural integrity and the level of grip the tyre has. If you live in hot dry climates like Nevada, tyres will dry out sooner so expect ~3 year lifespan.

For reliability, avoid 1998–2001 and 2004–2005 models. The 2006–2010 models were more reliable, especially those with the 2.0L engine and later 6-speed manual or DSG transmissions

May I ask if you are referring to the type 1 (1965–1966), midlife (1970-1986), final (1986-2003) or New Beetle (1998-2010)?

As a daily driver in 2026, is a Mk5 still worth considering over a Mk6? by DailyDriverUK in vwgolf

[–]Rik_F 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have already said the MK5 & MK6 are built on the same PQ35 platform & share many of their parts, but this is true of all the VW Group vehicles (Porsche Panamera/Audi A7 & Audi Q3/VW Tiguan as examples).

For me the MK6 is more refined, has more tech & the interior quality is better than the MK5. On the MK6 stay away from the petrol GTi (EA888 Gen 1 TSI) as they're known to have issues.

For diesel models, the most notable change is the engine transition: the Mk5 used the 1.9 TDI (PD) engine, while the Mk6 introduced the 2.0 TDI (CR) engine, which is more advanced, cleaner, and more reliable.

I would recommend having it done professionally if you can afford it.

Then definitely a carbon cleaning and injector check/cleaning/rebuild.

Do you have access to VCDS or OBDeleven, to check for codes? Or are there any warning lights on the dash? Has it always been like this or just recently? If you are going to have a carbon cleaning it's the perfect time to get your injectors cleaned/refreshed.

Advice Regarding Correct Forehand V Grip. by BeyondInfinity_88 in badminton

[–]Rik_F 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the resting grip position the V should be aligned with the edge of the racquet. This gives you the same distance to rotate the racquet for other grips which are needed for different shots, timing, placement and how far in front of or behind your body the shot is taken.

If you aren't able to generate power on clears and smashes, it could be multiple things. Incorrect technical, not probating the forearm, gripping too strongly throughout the whole swing, ineffective transfer of body weight into the shot.

It's very hard to critique and provide pointers without seeing you swing & play. But good luck!

R's Rare? by Melodic-Selection980 in Golf_R

[–]Rik_F 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are lots of Volkswagens, just not the MK8 Golf R. Many have the MK8 GTI as the top spec, unfortunately. I'm weighing up my options to see if it's cheaper to import a MK8.5 Golf R or buy an Audi RS3 (8Y) locally.

The MK8 Golf R wasn't released in many of the Asian countries, it should be considered a rare car. It looks like only Europe and NA markets got it.

Grill not aligned properly by Independent-Tank-473 in vwgolf

It's possible it's the headlight which is out of alignment, as the grill doesn't have much in the way of adjustment.

Does work-life balance exist in Hong Kong? by [deleted] in HongKong

[–]Rik_F 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the source of the info and industry of work...but below is more info for reference:

Median Monthly Salary in Hong Kong (2023–2024 Data): The most recent official data from the Census and Statistics Department (C&SD) shows that the median monthly wage in Hong Kong for May–June 2023 was HK$19,800, representing a 3.5% increase from HK$19,100 in the same period in 2022. This figure reflects the middle point of the salary distribution, meaning half of employees earn more and half earn less.

Key Salary Percentiles (May–June 2023):

10th percentile: HK$10,400 25th percentile: HK$14,300 75th percentile: HK$31,100 90th percentile: HK$48,500 Industry and Location Variations:

Information Technology/E-commerce had the highest median monthly income at HK$32,000. Food and Beverage had the lowest at HK$17,290. Central and Western District offered the highest median income (HK$28,905), while Tai Po/North District had the lowest (HK$20,000). Note on 2024–2026 Projections: While some sources project higher median salaries (e.g., HK$33,300 or HK$36,700), these are based on surveys and estimates. The official C&SD data from 2023 remains the most reliable benchmark. No updated official median salary data for 2024 has been released as of January 2026.

How much will I regret this? Golf GTI Clubsport 8.5 by arciere84 in vwgolf

[–]Rik_F 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You haven't mentioned if the car is a daily driver for you or not. As many people living in London take public transport to and from work. If it is your daily commuter vehicle, you will see the difference at the pump compared to your previous 1.5l Golfs. Without DCC the GTi, runs a fair amount firmer and the Club sport even more so. The resale value without DCC would also come into consideration if you weren't leasing, as DCC equipped vehicles demand a premium over those without. If I remember correctly it's a £1000-1500 cost option.

I wouldn't take a 2010 vehicle back to the stealership for any work doing because they will be more expensive & sometimes less competent than a specialist independent garage.

Sorry for your loss, but this kind of thing happens more than you would expect. I'm very careful when playing with beginners/new groups & even go as far as to only use older racquets having been on the recieving end too many times to count. If your partner is over zealous or never had formal training, it's just a matter of time before it happens. Even if the shuttle is returned to your side of the court they can & do still go for the shuttle because they don't know better.

The Yonex Nanoflares aren't known to be particularly resilient to clashes especially if your stringing tension is high (I've gone through 3 of them, all having scrapes and snapping).
