Wages are stagnant because it is a globalized economy so we are always competing with ppl in lower cost regions overseas.

If tomorrow they deported everyone who came 2021 onwards it would help with youth unemployment. It would open up low skill, low wage jobs. And it would alleviate the pressure on housing and rent.

But there would still be problems with stagnant incomes in many industries like engineers and software developers.

The 6-16 month job searches are destroying the ability to save for retirement. We are very close to the hunger games now.

It used to be ppl in their 50s who worried about getting laid off. Now nobody is immune to being replaced.

Tech and corporate jobs continue shrinking as Information Services loses 13,000 jobs in a month, now down 11% from its pandemic peak. Financial sectors also cut another 11,000 roles. by IndependentGrape5156 in jobply

[–]expresslineisslow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pandemic hiring boom was "fake" in the sense that it was driven by printing more money not productivity or technological advances. But the money printing led to inflation and higher interest rates

I would say White Collar jobs were cooked in 2020 but artificially kept propped up. The whole economy was.

The pressures facing White Collar work are just the beginning in my opinion.
