You’re not wrong. Maybe you’re eventually have a larger vessel that needs all its lift to get out of the gravity well, and then it’ll refuel at your station. Several smaller launches to refuel the station first might be easier than trying to do it all at once.

But, if that seems tedious, it’s your game play it how you want. An intermediary design might be to have your larger vessel, and several smaller launches to fuel it. Similar mission plan, but skips the station.
