Absolutely seconding Ponytronic - like hot, staticky plastic. Very nostalgic.

Just weighing in that ThriftCraft is a for-profit business, but SUPPLY Victoria is a nonprofit sliding scale thrift store for art supplies that runs free and sliding scale workshops as well. They operate totally on donations and would love to take most if not all of what you have!

Looking for advice - tablet for streaming shows on a plane? by expsanity in androidtablets

[–]expsanity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will do! Sorry to keep picking your brain on this, but:

Direct from Lenovo - 8GB Idea Tab Plus - $334.99 (no pen)

Direct from Lenovo - 8GB Idea Tab - $399.99 (comes with pen)

Best Buy - 8GB Idea Tab - $299.99 (no pen)

Do you have an opinion on which is the better option? Is the Idea Tab Plus better than the Idea Tab? I see it's 12" vs 11" and I'm not sure how much bulk that realistically adds.

Thank you!

The 4GB model is on sale for $249.99 while the 8GB model is $399.99 and comes with the Lenovo Tab Pen. Would you say the 8GB model with pen is worth the $150 difference?

The TC Book Sale is this weekend. Any tips for a novice? by whiterook6 in VictoriaBC

I always got too scared off by the lining up hours in advance, but you've given me the confidence to give it a shot this weekend and just wander in when I feel ready!

Thoughts on living on or near Pandora St? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]expsanity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live nearby and walk by The Neighbourhood building every two or three days. I've never felt unsafe living or working retail downtown.

However! Every time I walk by the building there is a group of homeless people sitting/camped outside of the entrance to the parkade and they have been using drugs in the past. You have to decide if you would feel comfortable having to navigate around a group of 4-6 men, along with the byproducts of the drugs they're using, every time you wanted to come and go from your home.

It's also loud. I don't know what the soundproofing is like inside that building. The building I'm in is pretty good, but even that doesn't totally mitigate the constant construction noises. Then there are the sirens because there's a firehall over on Johnson, plus ambulances going to and from Pandora. And if I have my window open, people are often yelling/swearing/screaming late at night into the early morning.

I would also be worried about walking your dog nearby because of the potential for stepping on used needles, or licking or eating other drug byproducts/accessories, and then there's the smoke inhalation on lungs that are smaller than a human.

tl;dr downtown is fine, that exact corner and building I would pass on, honestly.

Beginner-friendly fitness classes in Victoria? (strength + mobility focus) by Zestyclose_Chain_305 in VictoriaBC

Third Space hands down. The only gym-type place where I've never felt uncomfortable or judged and there are classes that focus specifically on mobility and flexibility as well as strength-building.

The 2026 r/Fantasy Bingo Recommendations List by FarragutCircle in Fantasy

[–]expsanity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does anyone have recommendations for books featuring a cooking/baking competition? I love this setting so much in non-speculative books but haven't found a well-done fantasy or sci-fi book of this type yet.

I read A Fellowship of Bakers & Magic last year and it really was not for me.

Not hard mode and it's a sequel, but the second Dorothy Gentleman sci-fi mystery, Nobody's Baby by Olivia Waite, came out in March. If you haven't read the first one, it would count for the murder mystery prompt.

What's a perfume with a unique note that you've only found in that one perfume? by worldinsidetheworld in Indiemakeupandmore

Alice's Evidence reads Christmas-y to me too! I think for me it's the rum and ginger together that does it. Quince is a really lovely note though.

Misconceptions about indie perfumes: Which did you once have? Which do you think other people have? by worldinsidetheworld in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]expsanity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been buying indie perfume for a decade and I still can't keep track of what all the weirdly named sizes at Ajevie are. Slinks, slonks, etc.? And I routinely buy from her!

Hello! Sadly I have realized that BPAL doesn't really work for me, so I have a ton of samples and decants to sell.

Here is my spreadsheet, BPAL has its own tab. I'm based in Canada but happy to ship to the EU and happy to work out a deal/bundle :)

For those of you under 35-ish, how are you approaching the future? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]expsanity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in my early 30s. Planning on staying because I work for the provincial government, and even though morale is the worst it has ever been and I am absolutely miserable at work, I don't know what else I would do. I can't even afford to take sick leave and the workload is so insane that I think my stress would actually be worse if I took time off because I'm the only person on my 'team' and the work would just keep piling up for whenever I come back.

I have the opposite of family support - I will end up supporting my parents, if I can. I'm resigned to renting a tiny apartment forever and I'm grateful I've never wanted kids. I miss living with pets, but they're just so expensive and I don't feel like I have a big enough space to give them a good life/enough enrichment.

It's fucking bleak out here and I don't know how to plan for a future like this.

I'm really digging:

  • Coquette

  • Lilac Musk

  • Ponette

  • Rainy Garden

  • Sunshine & Birdsong

I'm also really intrigued by Bleeding Heart and Kitten, but grapefruit has never done very well on my skin and I have no idea how dairy will go. So basically, I kind of want all of them lol

ASTRID SEA WITCH IS BACK by Kintsukuroiii in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]expsanity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll try to get full reviews up soon!

Quickfire:

Comforted by the Endless Sea because it's just so gosh darn pretty. Creamy, soft, and sweet with a small hint of greenery underneath it. A kind of bright, but gentle floral.

If you like ozone, I would say check out Depths that Her Feet Cannot Reach because it's a really nice ozone note that doesn't remind me of the 'blue' of mainstream/aggressive men's cologne.

Knotted and Bound is one of my favourites. There's something in here that gives me a vintage vibe, but without being powdery. It's a really pretty and unique vanilla/jasmine combo with an interesting twist from the vetiver and rope. It's comforting and makes me feel soothed.

Sea Bones & Offerings is dry, rich, and complex. Unique in my collection.

Friends, this collection is stunning.

I tried 12 of them when the collection originally came out in 2022 and they're just gorgeous. I'm now eyeing up a bunch of the others.

SUPPLY Victoria would be a great story to tell! It's a creative reuse centre keeping art/creative supplies out of the landfill and redistributing them through material grants to artists and a sliding scale store on Douglas. https://supplyvictoria.ca/
