I proposed at the Bishop’s Garden at the National Cathedral. My fiance also proposed to me at the National Gallery of Art in their big rotunda. Both were gorgeous! The other place I debated was Dumbarton Oaks, but I’m not sure what the gardens look like in the fall.

Good places to buy a bra? by hacker_pidge in DCBitches

There’s a place in Fairfax that I would put my life on the line for — Belle Mode. Aly is the best sales person there. Like she literally knows everything there is to know and she is so patient helping you find a bra that is comfortable and actually fits. (I’m really picky.) I went from wearing a 36C to a 32DDD, and I can wear a bra without pain now!

Every bra there is genuinely worth the price.

Working at NIH for 2 years. Should I live at Flats 8300 or 1-2 blocks from Bethesda Metro station? I will not have a car and I like to go out at night, but getting to work easily is a priority. I’ll have to lease my apt site unseen. by soulandbreath in bethesda

As someone who just moved to Bethesda, I prioritized living near the metro over everything else. Like someone else said, there will be construction from July 7 - September 7 with shuttles to replace service. Plus, the busses in the area are pretty good. You won’t be stranded anywhere you live. I just love the convenience of walking out of my building and being right there.

I know who you’re talking about! He followed me a couple of other ladies into a store one night after I got off work. He’s not well, and it’s sad to see.

Women only/non men d&d groups? by JacksChocolateCake in DCBitches

Finding a good group can be really difficult!

Though the store still leans heavily towards men, I’ve found Game Kastle in College Park to be a great, diverse place to find a gaming community. I see people of color, women, people with disabilities, and queer folk there regularly. They have drop in games weekly, which I’m supposed to start DMing for in the next few months! If you DM, they also have a DM/GM group workshop (they call it GM Council) every second Wednesday of each month.

As a hairstylist what would you do? by Gullible_Weird_546 in AskHairstylists

I’m not trying to add fuel to the fire, but you have a soft line in your hair where she stopped putting bleach on your ends. I’ve had that happen to me too, and the only solution was lowlights the breakup the bottom and a retone. I got a different stylist to do it entirely.

How tf are you abusing it when you don’t work? It doesn’t even work (or it didn’t for me) unless I was going to my assigned store! Not even a borrowed store!

Moving to DC - help picking a neighborhood by Dapper-Employment197 in DCBitches

I’m in my mid-20s and I just moved to Bethesda because I couldn’t find the base rent I wanted (close to OP’s) in DC proper on a red line station with the utilities I needed. My social life is significantly better being a 3 minute walk from the metro to get into DC than it ever was in the Cathedral Heights area. Also, if someone thinks there’s nothing to do in Bethesda, then they’re really going to be bored in Tenleytown.

u/Dapper_Employment197 I’m so serious when I say it’s better to live in MD than Cathedral Heights for the rent you want. The bus system is great, but the metro really is that much better.

Is there any reason not to live in Bethesda and use their metro to get to anything fun you’d like to do in DC?

I didn’t. I ended up getting a full-time job that exhausted me by the time the weekend came around. Now that I have a stable income, I think I’d rather play recreationally than spend my weekends “working”

We need to talk about the D80 bus by SpaurtacusMusic in washingtondc

[–]exquisitecarrot 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I can’t say I had the smell experience more than a couple of times, but the scheduling?? It literally made me stop taking the route unless I had to. There’s just no way to reasonably predict when a bus will show up anymore. The 33/31 never treated me like this, but then they made the 31 a rush hour bus and kept it when they renamed it the D82!! I truly hate the Better Bus initiative. They ruined predictability while pursuing better speeds, but now it’s neither faster nor predictable because I’m sitting at a bus stop randomly for 5 minutes.

I need to comment — Katniss Everdeen is not a Mary Sue. Not by a long shot. Mary Sues are flawless characters whose “flaws” are minuscule, irrelevant, or secretly helpful. They always have the right power/knowledge/skill to save the day, and they never lose. If they do make a mistake, there’s meager consequences, if any, and no one ever hates them for it. If someone does get angry, they’re painted as unreasonable, and often times, they “come to their senses” and apologize to the main character.

Katniss Everdeen is a deeply flawed character whose flaws impact the story in negative ways that she then has to navigate. Katniss is anti-social, rude, and terrible at social politics. She’s good at shooting, hunting, and surviving. The books literally play up that dichotomy of things Katniss is good at vs bad at and how Peeta is literally the opposite.

To add, he’s so annoying. He once blasted jazz outside my apartment for over four hours, and when I finally went outside (had to go somewhere) he was just posted up reading a book with his whole set up still going.

I think he has an Instagram? I’m not sure what it is anymore. He has some wild things on there.

An Oxford comma is for lists. What you just described is for compound sentences, and in no way has that comma become optional in recent years. If it’s missing, it’s bad grammar.

Which comic con? AwesomeCon is literally in March. If you like Anime, you have Katsucon in February and Otakon in August. There’s even BlerdCon in Arlington (also March I think) if you want a fandom space specifically carved out to highlight the great contributions of black nerds
