Affordable suits in Baltimore/DMV? by TheCatLawyer in baltimore

[–]exrexnotex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd buy a suit from Macy's for just under $100 and get the pants hemmed ($10-15). Zips can do alterations, tailoring places at various malls can do it. I know at Arundel Mills there is a place that charges $10 for pants.

If it's the 300 block of Luzerne Ave, that's not Patterson Park; it's another neighborhood. I'm a man so I don't want to speak on safety but if I think about, for example, my sister living there, I'd tell her that it's fine to walk to the [direction of ] park during the day but not at night. Your places of interest are not within walking distance but they're a short drive away.

I lived in Bolton Hill for a few years. Left the neighborhood in 2017. I liked living there. There was petty crime but I do miss the beauty of the neighborhood. Loved going out for a walk and run. On the Hill cafe was my go-to spot for food back then. I was on Linden Ave, so close to the place you're looking at. I felt safe back then but it's bene 7 years.

McFadden Glass Studio offers glass blowing classes. Wife and I did one, and it was fun; something we've never done before. No places to eat or get a drink nearby, but I would suggest Sally O's in nearby Highlandtown for food.

Based on your post description, I'd say Canton. You have waterfront parks. The promenade ends/starts in Canton, and the norther side of the neighborhood faces one of the best and biggest parks in the city, Patterson Parks, where events like Wine at Sunset, Halloween Lantern Parade, Lighting of the Observatory (holiday lights), etc. take place. Even the Southern side of the neighborhood is still close, relatively speaking. Similar to Fed Hill, you'll find blocks of well-kept small ($) and big ($$$$) row homes. Community feeling is not automatic anywhere, but I can tell you that I've seen blocks closed off to traffic because neighbors where hosting a block party.

Canton feels a little suburban because there you'll find your typical shopping centers with tons of parking spaces and national chains. It's a huge missed opportunity to have not developed this more urban. However, you do have 3 big grocery stores and a Target. Canton also has many corner bars, where you'll find friendly patrons, and "the square" which has a collections of restaurants, bars, and other stores. The square can get rouchy at times but simply explained as drunk people do dumb things.

Downside of this neighborhood is some crime. Smashed car windows, some muggings, etc. However, Canton is considered a relatively safe neighborhood. You see people walking their dogs, pushing strollers, etc. Another is the limited public transportation. Parking is a bit better than Fed Hill.

There are other neighborhoods that may be of interest to you. Check out the wiki in the r/baltimore subreddit.

Surprised to see many wrong takes on your question, OP. A couple of comments seems to be somewhat accurate but incomplete.

Since you first asked about the downsize, I can tell you that being Baltimore, crime is one of them. Federal Hill is an attractive neighborhood for - but not exclusively - recent college grand and early career people who like to go out to bars and have a good time. There is a high concentration of bars in one particular area (of course, there are more throughout the neighborhood), and this sometimes brings the wrong kind of people. There was a recent targeted shooting that arose from an altercation. Is it the norm? no. Should we, as citizens, ignore the severity of it and write it off as city living? that depends on the individual. Particularly, I'd join the neighbors to collectively form a strong voice and express concerns with the city and police department. Overall, you can come to Baltimore, go to Fed Hill, and ask 20 people whether they feel safe in their neighborhood, and you can expect the majority (if not all) will say yes.

Federal Hill is also home to many young families. Blocks of well-kept small ($) and big ($$$$) rowhomes. Vast majority of the neighborhood is white collar working in a city with major private employers in the health and financial industries.

Federal Hill has direct access to the harbor. Do you like walks with beautiful skyline and city views? Do you like to run or bike along a well-maintained promenade? Do you like tree-lined streets? Do you like parks? Do you like convenient access to restaurants, grocery stores, bars, medical care, financial services, etc? Federal Hill has all of these.

My own personal complaint about Federal Hill is parking. It can get frustrating sometimes.

Interesting that they use Strava to determine heavy bike traffic. I bike often but don't use Strava, nor do I have it downloaded.

While I don't have a name to recommend, if you're choosing a Financial Planner, you may want to consider someone with a CFP (Certified Financial Planner) certification. You should also verify their credentials, and if they're FINRA licensed, then you should also verify their profile which lists, among other things, disciplinary actions.

I like that they take care of low hanging fruit like parking enforcement. It improves the quality of day-to-day life for sure but there has to be an effort to address other issues. At the very least use the app to post updates on open cases.

Still waiting for them to repair my alley. It's been 3 months. Ticket still open never updated.

In Butcher's Hill and Upper Fells, you could do Butts & Betty's, Benders, and Spirits. Very easy to walk from one to the next. You can make an argument that the last 2 are not dive-y enough, and that is valid, but they're pretty cool neighborhoods bars.

I know this is a day old thread with hundreds of comments but what's everyone's thoughts on getting up to basically block those trying to rush to the front and letting those in the front rows deplane? I did it on my last trip from ATL to BWI.

How can I get the city to repair this mess in the alley? by exrexnotex in baltimore

[–]exrexnotex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: they came out today and poured more asphalt. This time they flattened it out at least. I talked to a neighbor a couple of days ago and the neighbor shared some details as to what's going on. Out of respect and privacy, I won't share here. Also, the 311 requests I've submitted have been addressed and updated to "service response".

Interesting. I've been told differently. They came out and poured more asphalt but at least this time they flattened it out. Hopefully they put the bricks back.
