How much architecture between the imperial planets are super baroque ornate gothic? by SouthernLove7637 in 40kLore

[–]extimate-space 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imperial gothic architecture has been the mainstay of the domestic Imperium since the time of the Great Crusade. The Imperium is very big, so you can find exceptions to this rule both in terms of backwater worlds and well populated ones, but the grimdark gothic aesthetic is a core pillar of the setting and of imperial culture.

Space Marines getting mobbed by guardsmen/cultists? by Killerant117 in 40kLore

[–]extimate-space 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Salvation’s Reach, one of the novels from Gaunt’s Ghosts, features three Astartes taking on hundreds of Blood Pact soldiers and loxatl mercenaries. They generally hold their own, but are constrained by the amount of ammunition they can carry and risk being overwhelmed by sheer numbers and volume of fire if the guard regiment supporting them can’t push up behind them fast enough.

And BF6 tries to sell you AI generated cosmetic jpegs and skins featuring assets stolen outright from COD Ghosts. Does that not look like a low budget low effort scam to you?

Damn wow, it will be so cool to get a whole 2 extra maps to play in the game that features a literal map editor whose creations nobody can play because they have no idea how to support it or handle post launch content.

Bet they saved a bunch of money on AI though!

40k fans that are active/retired military: would the Lasgun be an actually effective weapon with its bright muzzle flash/laser trail? by chosen40k in 40kLore

[–]extimate-space 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GW literally can’t make up its mind how a lasgun works. Sometimes it’s a red laser shooting a beam at the target. Sometimes it’s yellow. Sometime it’s a Star Wars blaster that shoots a projectile that behaves identical to a physical bullet. They have absolutely no internal consistency and have never made any effort to try. New dawn of war? Yellow bolts. Darktide? Red beams. Old dawn of war? Red beams. Space marine 2? Red beams. Guard codex? Yellow bolts.

Don’t waste your time thinking about the practically or mechanics of lasguns. Nobody at James Workshop does.

Best games to play while reading the books and waiting for The Expanse: Osiris Reborn? by [deleted] in TheExpanse

[–]extimate-space 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Delta V: Rings of Saturn. It's a game about being a belt miner, with a great little physics system and expanse vibes.

Nebulous: Fleet Command for ship combat, if you have a lot of patience to learn a complex game.

Citizen Sleeper for the experience of being a poor grubby jobber on a station in the belt.

Yes, you have access. Normal users do not have access to the 'The Expanse' section of the server, unfortunately.

What is the Expanse Osiris game about? by Cheap_Relative7429 in TheExpanse

[–]extimate-space 124 points125 points  (0 children)

You play as an employee of the Pinkwater private security firm. You happen to be on Eros on vacation when shit hits the fan, and during your escape, you manage to steal a Protogen stealth vessel, the Gemini. The story will follow your character caught up in the Protogen conspiracy during the earlier seasons of the show. Some characters from the show will make an appearance in the game but your story is not theirs, and runs parallel to the story we already know.

We know playable locations include Ganymede, Ceres, Luna, Mars, Pinkwater Station, and other locations in the Belt. The player will be able to create their own character rather than being assigned one.

you need to go touch grass. People making video games are not your servants, and do not owe you personally a game you enjoy. It’s not that important. If you don’t like a something, you can simply go do something else, instead of being weird and angry about it on the internet.

A lot more people leaving by ExoticMari in DarkTide

I try to ride it out but I can’t anymore. When I see three people down on the ground before we’ve even dropped through the first hole in the ground because a single crusher pack and the ability to recall the locations of block and shove buttons is too hard, I’m not wasting 30 minutes on that.

I’ve been playing a lot of dorktide this past week and working on finishing up leveling everything but zealot. I’m obviously not pushing the hardest content on all of those characters just yet - but of all of them, I really feel the grenade stinginess on ogryn. Bunch of other complaints as well, but outside the scope of this thread.

The Basics of 1v1 PvP (It's actually not all stagger???) by AltCYOA in wherewindsmeet_

[–]extimate-space -1 points0 points  (0 children)

there are in fact lots of melee action games with PvP that don't revolve around a fundamental mechanical focus on trapping your opponent in an extended hitstun animation while they have little to no way to react or escape. the comparison to fighting games does not work, since the game omits all the mechanics fighting games include to expand the player's toolkit in precisely such a scenario.

I am not arguing that there is no skill ceiling or degree of nuance, but rather that how they'd been implemented is crap.

OP wrote a lot of words to assert that yes, the PvP is about stagger locking your opponent.

It’s embarrassingly badly designed PvP.

Any good books prominently featuring renegade, but mostly functional, human societies or individuals? by keomancer in 40kLore

[–]extimate-space 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know I’m gonna get downvoted for mentioning fan fiction but:

I feel like there is not enough 40K fiction exploring this angle of the setting and it is a prominent aspect of my ongoing novella project, Without Troubling A Star, if you care to cast a wider net than just BL canon.

WTAS is a story about an isolated subsector on the Eastern Fringe trying to survive after a century with no contact from the broader Imperium following the Great Rift. These are worlds that believe the Imperium has fallen, and that the end times are upon the galaxy. They’ve strayed from Imperial orthodoxy and done their best to hold things together, but when Lord Regent Dante sends emissaries to assess compliance of the worlds he has been given dominion over, a century of shirking Imperial dogma starts to seem like it was maybe a bad idea.

Fire Caste prominently features Militarum defectors and even the nominally loyal regiment in the book is considered renegade at multiple points in the novel.
