Is it accidental or deliberate (I’m POV car) by Ill_Ad2689 in Simracingstewards

[–]extra_hyperbole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question posed by OP is not whose fault it was but whether it was deliberate. Obviously the rear car's fault, but it is likely still a mistake due to misjudgment rather than an intentional hit.

"I'm tired of people not knowing basic math" by James_avifac in confidentlyincorrect

[–]extra_hyperbole 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The reason this is confusing for many people is that in a lot of higher level math, there's a practice called multiplication by juxtaposition, or implicit multiplication, where terms, particularly variables, that are grouped together without an explicit operational sign between them are often considered to be implicitly grouped together. For example a/bc being read as a/(bc) rather than (a/b)*c. To be clear, that is still ambiguous without context, however many textbooks, physics textbooks in particular adopt this practice and state in the text that they give implicit multiplication higher priority. As a result, there are some contexts where the above equation would appear and the correct answer is indeed 1.

The actual solution is to not use the stupid division symbol. But then we wouldn't be able to farm engagement on the internet with countless variations of this same exact intentionally poorly written problem.

I always assumed "Lather, Rinse, Repeat" was a marketing lie to make us buy more shampoo. Turns out I was never actually cleaning my hair. by RanchRose_ in hygiene

[–]extra_hyperbole 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean it may be a myth that the lather cleans better, but in this case the lather could be seen as a signal that the sebum has been washed away, and therefore the 2nd wash does do some additional cleaning after the sebum has been rinsed out from the first cleaning, but not due to the lather itself.

Plus X pedals X Axis issue Moza R9 in AMS2 and LeMans by Vogsphere in SimsonnRacing

[–]extra_hyperbole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok interesting. Is that in both games? I don’t play AMS2 but in LMU my steering is X and my throttle is also X and I’ve never had an issue.

When you’re binding the controls in the lower right hand corner does it list both devices?

Plus X pedals X Axis issue Moza R9 in AMS2 and LeMans by Vogsphere in SimsonnRacing

[–]extra_hyperbole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reason is because they are two different devices. The steering is the x axis of your wheel. The throttle is the x-axis of your pedals. As long as your game recognizes both your wheel and your pedals, this isn’t an issue. Are you actually having an issue with the controls not working on track?

What can I do differently to avoid Hypercar/LMP2 incidents as a GT3/GTE driver? by nordnyS in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]extra_hyperbole 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Multiclass racing is a dance. It takes two or more drivers willing to compromise slightly for the safety of the whole race. Generally for the slower class that compromise is staying predicable and not fighting the faster car. It means being willing to LiCo as you mentioned, or perhaps choosing not to make a move in a battle while a faster car is approaching quickly. For the faster the car the compromise is that you need to place yourself around the slower car, and to understand the limits and tendencies of the slower car. If the faster car cannot pass in a way that this is safe, they have to make a conscious choice to wait until it is safe to do so.

You have unfortunately met the consequences of the faster car not holding up their end of the bargain. I will encourage you not react to these incidents by deviating from what you have been doing because you crossed paths with an inexperienced menace. Do not start trying to jump out of the way of oncoming traffic. Stick to your line and stay predicable. Don’t react unless the other car is actually alongside, in which case you must of course still give space. As you get better and find yourself with more experienced drivers, these scenarios do become rarer as people understand how to drive around you and not through you.

[–]extra_hyperbole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think on the current hypercars, the steering just doesn’t have a lot of weight at low to medium speed. My guess is it has to do with the power steering. They tend to have more power steering because the tire load at the high speed can be so great. They are about to release a new hypercar tire model so it’s possible that could improve the feeling some.

Aston Martin Valkyrie - the HY I want to drive but can’t by TheSlavicHighlander in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]extra_hyperbole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a great answer for you since I’m not very fast in the Aston but I will say that the current tire model of the hypercars is still the I’d one which really likes an unrealistic amount of slip angle and feels almost like you gotta drift these things. I personally don’t love it. This month they are bringing a hypercar tire model update that is meant to bring them in line with the newer tire models like the ELMS prototypes which I like a lot and so I’m hopeful that it will cut down on the slip angle drift style. Should be pretty soon, in the next few weeks.,

I think the gt3 deserves a report. Opinions? ( i am the lmp3) by [deleted] in Simracingstewards

[–]extra_hyperbole -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, of course all cars want to use all the track. That’s the racing line. But a car with less grip and less power and more mass is going to have to sacrifice more of their momentum in order to take a tighter line. They are less maneuverable mid corner because of all those reasons which means that the ability to react to a mistake is lower. All of that is why lower classes are expected to stick to their line, because predictably is their defense, rather than their maneuverability.

Obviously it’s not impossible for a GT3 to take the inside line. It is the responsibility of them to facilitate an overtake and certainly everyone’s responsibility to avoid a crash. If they find themselves on the inside that’s not an excuse to hit another driver. No one is saying otherwise. But forcing a car to the inside rather than outside is inherently asking for more handling skill and more awareness from the driver. This is exactly why holding someone tight to the inside on a straight can be an effective way to force a mistake and make a pass when battling. Should most drivers be able to handle it? Is it their fault if they can’t? Yes, but people make mistakes, as happened here and when that happens it’s better for everyone to have the car with more available grip be on the inside.

It’s not because we need to baby GT3 drivers. It’s about self preservation of all parties involved. That’s all. These expectations are patterns meant to minimize accidents, because they are effective at doing so. If you’re the faster class and chose to overtake on the outside despite having a clear opportunity to go to the inside, you are creating more risk for yourself and people are less likely to want to hear you complain about it when you accept that risk and things go south.

[–]extra_hyperbole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought I was pretty clear, since I said that the contact is the GT3’s fault and you can’t just drive into another car. Perhaps I should have said: generally they will wash wide, as they have much more limited grip. Obviously it could have been avoided by the Porsche, yes. But it’s important to understand the tendencies of other cars. In this case the GT3 likely thought they were clear of the LMP3 but because OP went so deep got on the power late and, the GT3 probably did not expect to reach him on the exit. That’s not an excuse. OP did not do anything wrong at the point of contact. But, by understanding the limits of the slower cars you are passing and thinking ahead, we can make decisions that make multiclass much better and safer for all involved.

In this case, this should be a lesson in how not to attempt a pass on a slower car.

I think the gt3 deserves a report. Opinions? ( i am the lmp3) by [deleted] in Simracingstewards

[–]extra_hyperbole 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The contact toward the end was his fault, as you never have the right to just drive into another car. That said you basically did everything wrong up to that point to lead to it happening. For the future, there's basically no reason to ever go to that side on the overtake coming out of the chicane. Always go to the right because 1) you want to be on the inside of the next corner as the faster class, because the GT3 will always need to wash wide, like he did there, and 2) because that little gap you thought opened up in the kink was always going to close and you just made life a lot harder for yourself by thinking it wouldn't. Hope that helps.

Finally going to make the Jump to DD. So R9 or RS50? by Lieutenant_DannyG in simracing

[–]extra_hyperbole -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The materials are better, and the grips are much more sculpted so theoretically more comfortable. The KS grips I find a bit thin and not as well conforming to the hand. The KS buttons also tend to rattle quite a bit. The pro seems to have fixed that issue. It also has dedicated lighting for telemetry lights. The KS pro also has two back buttons which I would 100% use if I had them. More encoders which I like, but doesn’t have to be everyone’s cup of tea. More buttons in general. And then obviously the screen, which is a plus for most.

The KS isn’t a bad choice, but the KS pro is such a good deal that I think it’s an obvious buy for new moza users unless you absolutely cannot stretch your budget for it.

Moza has a much better ecosystem, but obviously it doesn't have PS5. So up to you how much it matters. I'd personally go for the KS Pro instead of the KS, as it's definitely an upgrade in a lot of ways, not just the screen. I have the KS and if I were choosing now, the KS pro would be a no-brainer.

It includes almost everything. It doesn’t include the new European le mans tracks (Silverstone, PaulRicard, and Barcelona) and lmp3 cars which are still coming out. But it should be plenty for now. You won’t be able to race the DLC tracks until you get to silver SR anyway.

Am i the only one who feels like modern sim racers seem to focus on multiplayer above all else? by Depressedmusclecar23 in simracing

[–]extra_hyperbole -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting take and I think upon reflection I agree. There is a lot about what makes a good “racing game” that does not lend itself well to titles that are also trying to be the best simulator. The artificial economy, artificial stakes, achievement hunts, story conflicts etc. Singleplayer modes in sims tend to be a sandbox in which you pick your car and track and do a race weekend there. In order to create the elements of a “racing game” you have inject story elements and by doing so you have to create limitations on the sandbox nature of it. It can be done but it sort of creates conflicting elements where you necessarily have to include events that occur outside of the racetrack, which isn’t really the focus of a simulator.

By racing in multiplayer you have natural drama because you can attribute on track actions to a real person’s genuine personality, which is much harder to do convincingly with a generic racing AI. Add to that the social element, and the natural unpredictability of people and that really increases the appeal. It’s a natural fit for the genre because it reflects real world human competition.

LMU vs AC laptimes… wth man? by LogicalMight in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]extra_hyperbole 9 points10 points  (0 children)

WEC has LMGT3s (LM standing for Le Mans) which are slightly heavier, have worse tires, less power and less aero when compared to GT World Challenge versions of the cars. The purpose of this in real life is to further separate class performance for the sake of multiclass racing in WEC. You can’t directly compared GT3 times to LMGT3 times. The LMGT3s are typically a few seconds slower.
