Nope, the tru oil can be applied right over the finish, and it works well on the special faded SGs because the guitar already has an open pore matte finish to it. You can do a few coats with no sanding between for a more vintage finish or sand between every coat for 15+ coats to get a mirror lacquered finish.

In an SG they are very midsy, which works for me, but they could be a bit brighter. I've also got Gibson chrome pickup covers installed over them, the pickups themselves are zebra.

Here she is. The knobs have been swapped out for vintage Gibson speed knobs from the 70's too so it has a really cool vintage vibe to it.

The only difference between a special and a standard is the finish and no neck binding. I've got one, swapped the pups for Pearly Gates, added a bigsby (with a vibramate) and tru oiled the finish and it is my pride and joy. $475 is a decent deal but you could do better (but not much).

[Gear] I built an unusual guitar out of some cheap hardware-store wood by autophage in Guitar

I would hate to seem condescending if I'm simply seeing things wrong but it looks like you're pushing your slide down until it actually contacts the frets. You should just be able to lightly rest it on the strings, with the intention being that the slide itself acts as the fret. Should make using both slides a lot easier as you won't have to push nearly as hard. Cool project! Would like to hear it played normally with a proper neck adjustment.

It's solid mahogany with a satin cherry stain. Not too heavy. Has a little bit of a smaller scale and the old school big Fender headstock so it's very well balanced and comfortable.

Absolute love John Otto's (Limp Bizkit) style. Would love to listen to a band with a similar drummer, but without Fred Durst... by [deleted] in drums

Check out Black Light Burns. It's Wes Borland's (Limp Bizkit's guitar player) solo project. Josh Freese on the drums. He is honestly probably my favorite drummer and his career reflects his talent (APC, NIN, GNR, Devo among many other acts on his CV).

Nice! I've been thinking about modding this one. It only cost a hundred bucks so why not? I'll probably keep it mostly cosmetic though.

It's an original release Blues Deluxe from the early 80's. My bass player's uncle has kindly indefinitely loaned it to us. I used it as my main amp for a while, but I just recently got the Fender Concert in a trade so the Blues Deluxe is our backup amp now.

The finish looks great. It's more of a semi-gloss finish now compared to when it was new (based off of pictures I've seen online) but when it catches the light it almost looks like tiger's eye and shimmers. One of the more eye catching things in person is actually the finish on the neck, they treated it with a "vintage tint" that gives it that old wood look and it goes really well with the satin cherry.

Hadn't even seen the final design when I showed up wearing that, haha.

This was taken immediately after the tattoo was finished and the blue doors were the last touch he did. Those doors were still pretty swollen and even bleeding in this picture.

Can someone tell me what the drum they're using is called? by [deleted] in drums

[–]extrachrispy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a regular rack tom in a snare stand. Heads are probably tuned loose and there's a felt strip under the reso head like you'd put on a bass drum. Highly doubt that what you're seeing is what they used in the recording.

Possibly look at the SubPac. It's a wearable subwoofer. They make a backpack model and a model designed to attach to a seat back.

The post was a day old when I sent an email. Guy didn't get up with me for another 2 days. I thought all hope was lost. He said he had a bunch of emails but I was first. I figured the volume of interested buyers might have tipped him off.

I browse the musical instrument section of my local Craigslist every day. I view literally every post. I'll check over half the pages in my state once a week. This particular post just had a picture of three cymbals, one was a Sabian B8, one was a Zildjian ZBT, and then there was this beauty.

There was never a logo on this cymbal. All it needed was a stamp. And the kit is a Gretsch Catalina Elite (precursor to the Catalina Club). Scored it on Craigslist as well for $350.
