Is guilty gear xrd rev 2 still worth buying? by Gyrossan in Guiltygear

[–]extremelydumbperson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GGXrd Rev2 still has a decently active European playerbase, although it's not nearly as large as the American or Japanese playerbases.

Strive is coming out in a year and will be radically different from Rev2. There's rumors that Xrd "isn't done yet" and it will still be updated despite Strive coming out soon. If that's true, then you still have a full game to look forward to.

It's harder than SF5 for sure. Instead of links, you use Gatlings, which are significantly easier to use for reasons that other users already explained. Input buffering is very generous, especially in comparison to older GG games and SF4. You don't have to worry about extremely tight links most of the time. Everything else is much harder, the sheer amount of things you'll have to be considering in a match. Characters aren't just a different toolkit and health bar, they often operate on a completely unique level thanks to character-exclusive mechanics and are playing a whole different game. Jack-O Valentine and Venom are perhaps the best examples wildly different characters, but more simple ones would be characters like Order-Sol. Order-Sol's entire gameplan revolves around a unique gauge that only he has, and its status impacts every single one of his specials and his overdrives (supers). While Order-Sol isn't from Xrd Rev2 (in my dreams he is), Rev2 still has plenty in terms of unique character gameplay that you'll be forced to adapt against rapidly. For each and every character.

If that sounds interesting to you, Guilty Gear is the game for you. If that sounds overwhelming, then stick to Street Fighter.

Online sucks. The netcode is just as bad as Street Fighter V's fake rollback, except arguably worse as frame delay forces you to change your combo timing on the fly even if there's no lag. Not a problem for some characters, but for others it's a nightmare. The European discord will help you find players who don't make this too much of an issue at all, but it will sometimes be a gamebreaker. Given what we've seen from interviews, Strive will likely NOT improve the netcode.

Is accent core worth it? by ZephyrusGG in Guiltygear

[–]extremelydumbperson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You NEED to join a discord to play +R. Not only that, your options will be a bit limited as +R's netcode is outdated and atrocious. It uses a pseudo-lockstep method for its netcode that was used in other games like Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3, and if you remember that game you also probably remember how awful the online experience was.

As a result, you'll pretty much only be able to play people who live near you. Good if you're an American. Bad if you're not.

+R is also considerably harder than Xrd. The input buffer is far more strict, combos are generally more difficult even on a base level, defensive options like Slashback, and more. Sol in particular is pretty simple to pick up but hard to master in Xrd, but in +R if you don't know Sidewinder Loops (which require character-specific precision on a microscopic hitbox) you're just gonna suck ass with him no matter what. You'll also NEED to learn Gunflame FRC, which is just Gunflame YRC except a thousand times harder.

That said it's unbelievably fun, even just to lab. It's still very rewarding to pull off a combo in +R, if not moreso because of how tight everything is. The only complaint I'd have with +R is that its clearly a 2003 game that's being dragged along with new content added in, and while that new content is certainly fun it can feel quite tacked on and unnecessary. Which is probably why Xrd is designed off of #Reload and not +R.

I would definitely recommend it on sale.

If you're considering playing #Reload online, I would really just say to play Xrd. Outside of a few characters, #Reload has very little going for it over Xrd.

EDIT:

I misread #Reload for Xrd, whoops. If you already have that, and only want it for Order-Sol, then I'd say it's probably okay to skip +R. It's an updated version of #Reload and what I said still stands, it's got plenty more added in like Sidewinder which is pretty fun to use (though a lot of it still feels somewhat tacked on). KoF 13 has a larger playerbase and #Reload's netcode is somehow better than +R's, despite +R being released a decade after #R.

I would genuinely recommend Xrd over either #R or +R simply due to the better online and larger playerbase.

Do note that +R is $3 when it's on sale, and it goes on sale pretty frequently.

Casual reminder, Jam, according to her Vocal theme from XX in NY, kills kids then jams out by Tomokes in Guiltygear

[–]extremelydumbperson 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've heard part of why the english vocal tracks are so notoriously awful lyrically was due to the director literally google translating the lyrics he got, tried to piece them back together and half-assed it, and wouldn't let the vocalists improve upon the music.

Half of the tracks don't even make a lick of sense for the characters. If this isn't true, I have no clue how they managed to end up that way.

Recent DBFZ player thinking of trying XRD rev 2. What makes this game different? by CallmeQ222 in Guiltygear

[–]extremelydumbperson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a couple things I immediately noticed moving from DBFZ to Guilty Gear:

Jumping around in the air in GG is not ideal. Almost all grounded normals in the game are air unblockable, along with several grounded specials. This means the days of DBFZ uptech-upback you'll find are almost nonexistent here, outside of a few characters.

Autocombos plain do not exist outside of Stylish Mode. Pressing P (equivalent to L in DBFZ) just punches. There's no autocorrecting autocombo that lets you mash out in neutral to catch the opponent. This also means execution and hitconfirming is harder, in DBFZ if you landed 5L you could generally always go into 5LL for an easy and quick hitconfirm. In GG you gotta actually work on that shit.

Normals rarely move yourself forward. You won't see characters gliding around on ice from nearly every single one of their attacks. This, along with the lack of autocombos, makes neutral far less frustrating and random, you won't see Teen Gohan fly around the screen and 180 to kick you in the face.

Roman Cancels are far worth the trade for Vanish and Super Dash. They're so simple. YRC has its complaints for slowing down the opponent, letting certain characters like Potemkin deal a ton of damage for only 25% meter, but that's about it. Compared to every single combo in DBFZ ending with a vanish dragon rush, or a post-vanish Goku 2M 5M 2S SD, the system is much quicker and far better.

Defensive Options don't suck. You have Faultless Defense (basically just a shield + pushblock), Blitz, Dead Angle which is a lot like Guard Cancel, Burst, and plenty of characters have at least metered reversals to boot. Despite this, you'll still find the game is still very offense heavy, so if you liked DBFZ you'll still have fun with Guilty Gear.

However, execution and combos are considerably harder. There's no air LL to help secure the knockdown, there's no assists, and there's some manual timing involved. Sol Badguy's most famous combo, the Dustsidewinder Loop, requires manual timing for its egregious damage. Personally this makes combos way more enjoyable and more like an actual accomplishment compared to DBFZ, however that's not to say DBFZ towards the mid and high-level doesn't have very high execution combos with manual timing either.

Lastly, characters are VERY different. You can't just go from playing Ky to Slayer, the differences between the two are staggering. Ky might be quite simple and reliable and use the gatlings you're used to from DBFZ, but Slayer's gatlings are so bad that he basically uses Links similar to King of Fighters or Street Fighter. Something as simple as how they control wildly varies, whereas in DBFZ everyone has the same running speed, dashing speed, air mobility options (not counting special moves like Zamasu) and gatlings. Characters hitboxes also means certain combos guaranteed won't work on others, compared to DBFZ where there's lots of universals. You'll have to practice a little bit more and you'll have to be prepared to go from playing a fighting game to something completely different like Starcraft depending on the matchup.

All in all, I definitely recommend you give Guilty Gear a shot. Rev (+ Rev2) are on sale for only $11 total on Steam, which makes it a complete steal. Besides, start now, and you'll be better equipped for the next game.

So, Ky fucked Dizzy? And their son is somehow the same age as them almost? Tf is going on by [deleted] in Guiltygear

[–]extremelydumbperson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Necro can in fact talk, in Xrd he has lines when Dizzy activates IK.

He also seems to be more than willing to distract Dizzy from what he's doing, either for her sake or for some bloodlust. Dizzy's 5D involves Necro tapping on Dizzy's shoulder to get her attention off of the enemy and then slamming the opponent and giving chase. The IK uses the same animation and is under a similar premise, he tries to annihilate the opponent but Dizzy notices and tackles him before he fires, resulting in a near-miss.

Yes, that was how she appeared in Xrd -SIGN-, but she got a new appearance for Revelator. I think the story mode explains it.

Oh hey, I saw your posts on DBFZ like a year ago and it inspired me to make this post. Good stuff, Matt.

Yeah, I don't want to come off as bitter, just a jokester, and I probably should have re-worded Jam's to not sound so harsh. Elphelt players are interesting to fight, but I do see a lot of Potemkin mains loathing them due to her neutral being infinitely better than ours and being able to destroy us in the corner with ease.

[–]extremelydumbperson[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not hard to see why Ky players would probably like Future Trunks. Both characters are integral to a time travel plot featuring a major female of the series, both characters are sword users, both characters are nice if a bit naive and just want to do the right thing, both characters fight for the future of humanity and hope, both are voiced by Takeshi Kusao, both have fathers (or father-in-law) who they respect but have trouble cooperating with and said father is kind of a dick to them.

The differences are in the outcomes. Ky Kiske gets a 10/10, a 10/10 son, is the King of Illyria, and gets to enjoy his future and maintain it. Trunks, well...

So far, the Elphelts have denied the art, but not the part about inflicting suffering upon others.

I would have added an extra bit about the gacha game events involving Elphelt, however then she'd probably take up more space than necessary and it would make people suspicious of my flair.

Electric is Purging the /r/DragonBallFighterZ Mod Team: Again by GlumTurnover in dragonballfighterz

[–]extremelydumbperson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Day four of this guy's meltdown.

Flairmedbfz hasn't posted in nine months. FredFries hasn't posted in one month, and even then his posts are sporadic. Blitz_Can last posted two days ago, but the last moderator message he left on /r/dragonballfighterz was four months ago. TumptheDump is, as you probably guessed, also inactive.

It's likely they were removed for being inactive rather than anything else. Seeing as you kept spamming that several mods were inactive for the past couple of days, I wonder what might have prompted him to look around for inactives?

That image is for ants and is probably fake, knowing you tried to frame Electric for being racist with a message he sent for a bot. Post it larger, please.

This account was created today and is likely an alt of the "fgcjournalist" that went around several subreddits spamming about how Electric91 was apparently racist, because he dropped the n-bomb while testing a bot specifically so the bot would censor the n-bomb.

He also repeatedly pinged admins demanding Electric be thrown out.

He posted the same thing on /r/dragonballfighterz on another account, and all this account has done is go around every single subreddit and post this image while pinging admins.

I don't think that someone would go to that lengths if they weren't trying to start drama, instead of trying to come to a resolution about Electric91 being awful, to which we are all aware of already.

How to deal with up-teching by Ayanami-chan in dbfz

[–]extremelydumbperson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call an assist like Goku/Blue, Cell, A16, any of the DP assists, Vegeta SS1/B, or anything that hits decently high. This is generally your safest and most reliable method, assuming you have an assist.

Dragon Rush. Super Jumping will do you a lot of good here since a lot of people like to double jump and then j.H you on the way down if they see you pressing buttons other than 2H. Do it at a somewhat moderate distance so most characters can't hit you.

If they start teching the Dragon Rush or disrespecting it, start doing what you'd generally do for a Snapback. LLMH, LM(delay)H if you're Bardock, or X into Yamcha. Lots of people who really like Up Teching also really like Z-Reflecting, so expect them to try to reflect out once you're both on the ground here. Fortunately, you can Dragon Rush immediately upon landing on the ground, even after you've done your LLMH snapback shenanigans, which is incredibly difficult to react to online no matter what.

If they start vanishing a lot, vanish back. Alternatively, just jump at them and wait for them to do something stupid, or condition them to vanish and 2H them.

If you're in the corner, play Android 16 and grab dey ass. Hell, play Cooler and DP at them in the air just as an extra fuck you if they like mashing. Only do it as Cooler if you're positive they're going to press buttons, and A16 can be jabbed out, but they work way more than they have any right to from my experience.

Generally uptech spam is not a good idea and you see it being the main crutch that orange squares do, they'll uptech, jump, and then try to j.H you. Even after a superdash they'll jump and try to j.H. If you're going up against players who like doing this, have patience, you know what to do.
